Overview of powerpoint:

• The powerpoint includes an informal introduction that touches on the previous Scout Law before introducing the new law. (The idea of being informal, is so it can be picked up by a Venturer and led by that person).

• This is then followed by the Venturer Module, which has an activity to do per value in the law. The activities are meant to be easily do-able but requires a certain amount of buy-in from the Venturers.

• Each section of the law has a different type of activity, Visual/Audile/Kinetic, so all Venturers can learn better.

• The do what is right, activity also has a chance to use social media.

The powerpoint then has alternative games/activities for the Venturer Unit to select.

We’ve set our new strategy, we have our goals in place and our values are as relevant as ever.

2015 has been a year of incredible change!

• Venturers and Leaders form a circle, with one person wearing a hat. From ‘Go’ the person wearing the hat will pronounce “Have Respect” or “Do What is Right” or “Be Positive”, every time the hat is passed to the next person they will say the following value.

• The aim is to say the one value in sequence and as fast as possible pass the hat on before the timer is up! If you’re wearing the hat when the time is up: you’re out!

Game Time!

• Charades:

The activity leader will have a list of objects the performing Venturer must depict, which are derived from our new values.

The Venturer must either (at the discretion of the leader) draw, silently act or mould out of play dough the object given. First to guess wins.

• Having respect is an important value held within Scouting and the public atlarge. Venturers can be respectful by acceptingthat everyone is diverse and may hold differentideas to ourselves.

• As a team, construct and perform a short skit on how Respect can be given and earned. Skits should be of 5 minutes in length. *Kinetic activity*

Have Respect…

• New Zealand is becoming ever more diverse and it’s important that we are more accepting of all differences.

• As a unit, or as a group of Venturers attend a church service not of your original followings.

• As Venturers, we’re the elders of the • youth sections. It’s our responsibility to lead in

doing what is right!

• This activity requires Venturers individually or as a unit to undertake a community service project of no less than one hours: Doing what is right!

• Take a photo and upload it to our Facebook page.• *Visual activity

Do What Is Right…

• Our lives can be very busy as we move towards our personal goals. However it’s important to make sure we include time to be with our elders.

• Visit an elderly home and share some stories/gifts with our elder generations. Do what is right, and make our elders feel less lonely.

• Being Positive as a teenager, can be difficult when activities come off as corny…

• For Be Positive Venturers must perform two ‘camp fire chants’. This can be in multiple small groups or half the unit vs the other half.

• Skits could include… • “Aint no flies on us”, “My name is Jo” etc.• *Audile activity

Be Positive…

Page 16: SCOUT LAW FOR VENTURERS Created by Michael Jeffery, Venturer

• Being positive shouldn’t have to be a chore! As a Venturer unit plan and undertake a ‘night in’ and share a meal together discussing the highlights of your times in Venturers. Venues could include Macaas, BK, Breakers, or more simply the hall with a shared plate brought in.

• It’s a good life being positive.
