REFLECTION John the Baptizer is preaching a baptism for repentance. But John announces that Jesus will baptize with the Holy spirit. In John’s time people came forward, were brought into the river to be immersed with the water, and then they were helped out. It was more than a shower - it was an underwater journey. Each person entered the death of not being able to breathe. Each person emerged into the new breath and cleanliness of refreshing, full life. FIRST READING (Isaiah 42:1-4,6-7) Behold the Chosen One, on whom I have poured my Spirit. SECOND READING (Acts 10:34-38) The word was proclaimed, beginning with the baptism John preached. GOSPEL (Matthew 3:13-17) At Jesus’ request, John baptized him, and the voice of god expressed pleasure.

annual ELDER PERSONS PARTY in the Springs Hotel, Monksland. Athlone on Sunday
22nd January 2017. there will be entertainment from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. and some food
