Please Welcome OurExecutive Director,
Mary Jane RodriguezMary Jane was both born and
raised here in the Los Angelesarea. The youngest of three, andthe only daughter, she spent muchof her childhood staying with hergrandmother and great aunt, snowbirds from Minnesota, aswell as her grandparents inPasadena. Cards and board gameswith her family were oftenpreferred over a Saturday night atthe movies with her friends. Theattraction to working with seniorscame from these very early dayswhere wonderful memorieswere made.
Celebrating 35 years ofmarriage this July, Mary Jane andher husband Tom reside inHacienda Heights and are now“empty nesters.” Two of theirthree children are married, withone very busy 18-month-oldgrandson belonging to their oldestson Brent and his wife Melissa.Second son Eric and his wifeJackie are due with their first baby,a boy, expected in early July. Theirlast is daughter Kristina, who willbe married August 2015 to herfiancé Chad.
Since 1991, Mary Jane hasworked with seniors in somecapacity. She began her careerteaching piano to residents with
hand arthritis. After eight yearsworking in various capacities forthe same long-term care company, she decided to make the transitionin to assisted living. In 1999, shejoined Marriott Senior Living andbecame a manager for a memorycare neighborhood. Loving theassisting living environment, MaryJane became an Executive Directorin 2002, and since then hasworked in Independent, Assisted, and Memory Care communities. At one time, her position allowedher to travel across the US,lending a hand to variouscommunities as needed, and shemade many new “senior” friendsalong the way.
She is anxious to join her newfamily at Belmont Village! Notone to spend much time in heroffice, Mary Jane is lookingforward to getting to know eachand every resident on a personalbasis as well as the very importantteam. Please stop by and say“hello!”
Welcome, Mary Jane!

News From theWellness Center
June is National Safety MonthFalls are one of the leading
causes of unintentional injuries inthe United States, accounting forapproximately 8.9 million visits tothe emergency departmentannually (NSC Injury Facts 2011).
Adults 55 and older are moreprone to becoming victims offalls, and the resulting injuries candiminish the ability to lead active, independent lives. The number offall deaths among those 65 andolder is four times the number offall deaths among all otherage groups.
We can all encourage residentto participate in daily exerciseclasses. Staying active has shownto reduce fall risks in older adults.
Check apartments daily for anytripping hazards. Phone lines andoxygen tubing should never beobstructing a walkway.
Residents should always usetheir walking aide, even insidetheir apartments. Check to makesure your walker is by yourbedside at night. Walkers andcanes should be checked for anylose or malfunctioning parts. It isimportant to alert the medicalsupply company if there isconcern of broken parts. Many
times they will quickly send out atechnician to resolve any issues.
Families, residents, andemployees should immediatelyreport any safety concerns in thecommunity.
Spills should be reportedimmediately and attended toswiftly to prevent any slips onwet surfaces.
Most importantly try to exercisegood judgment and never attemptan obstacle or task that you feelmight not be safe handled alone.Don’t hesitate to ask forassistance; prevention is key forstaying healthy.
