Our Vision: An Excellent School Where Students Achieve Their Potential

Cyber Safety The internet, mobile phones and instant messaging provide wonderful opportunities for children to learn, be creative and socialise online. They also provide opportunities for inappropriate behaviour, bullying and harassment to occur — causing pain and suffering to the targets of such behaviour. • Be aware of what your child is doing on

the internet and display an interest in their cyberspace knowledge and experience.

• Discuss a plan with your child to address cyber safety and cyberbullying. Ensure they know you will be supportive if they report something to you.

• Review the age suitability of any social networking sites your child joins.

• Review your child’s contacts, followers and page content on social networking sites/apps to help you manage their safety and reduce the risk of them associating with inappropriate contacts and content.

• Educate yourself on the latest threats facing children online.

• Try to keep communication with your child open and positive so they trust you viewing their profile. Ensure your child understands the implications of posting images and other content on the internet. Consider installing on your computer the ‘cybersafety help button’ available from the Commonwealth Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy’s website: www.dbcde.gov.au/online_safety_and_security/cybersafetyhelpbutton_download

Sporting Achievements Congratulations to Tahlia M who has been selected as a shadow player for the 12 years Girls Queensland Touch Football Team. This is an amazing achievement and we are so proud of her! You Go Girl!

Congratulations also to Caleb D on his selection in the Ipswich District 12 Years and Under Boys Cricket Squad. Well done Caleb!

Attendance Every day counts and we ask that parents support our teachers by ensuring all students attend school every day, excepting for illness or injury of course. If your child is absent from school, for whatever reason, it is crucial that you inform the school at your soonest convenience.

Silkstone Eisteddfod Congratulations to our performers who attended the Silkstone Eisteddfod on Wednesday 19 August. Each performance group was successful in securing a placing and were awarded: • Silver performance for Jnr Strings • Gold performance for Snr Strings.

Singfest Last Thursday Brassall State School hosted our regional Singfest. This was a wonderful opportunity for our choirs to work with choirs from others schools, to produce something beautiful. Congratulations to all of our students involved.

SWPBS - School Wide Positive Behaviour Support Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe, Be A Learner Focus lessons for the next fortnight are: Week 8: Be Responsible in the playground – use chill out chairs. Week 9: Be Responsible – Hand personal electronic devices to office. Last week we had new signage installed around the school. In the eating areas are new posters showing Buzz’s expectations for students in that area. We also have more visual signs in the Prep & Year 1 areas. Teachers will explicitly teach these expectations and students are expected to follow them in their eating areas. Buzz’s Eating Area Expectations are as follows:

Sit & Eat quietly Use polite & friendly words Put all rubbish in the bin Pack up your lunchbox in a tidy manner Put your hand up & wait for permission before leaving

your spot. Two other new signs are now located at the entrance to the Library – Where Buzz Loves to Browse – and at the Hunter Street entrance on the building stating – Reach Your Potential! Buzz Needs YOU At School Every Day. These signs remind the students of Buzz’s (our) expectations at Brassall State School. I hope you have been receiving at least one of the 100 or more Buzz Postcards we are posting every day. The children are really excited when they are read out & congratulated in class and look forward to collecting them at home and showing their parents.
