Since moving to Wye Valley, Alice has made many new friends—one of whom, Zivile, helped her solve a long-standing

family mystery!

Zivile, born in Lithuania and fluent in the lan-guage, was able to help translate Alice’s family letters from the 1970s. Importantly, she could “read between the lines” and interpret some messages that were coded to avoid getting in trouble with Soviet authorities who were then occupying Lithuania.

Alice and Zivile show us how much friendship, learning, and history are all parts of life at Wye Valley, and that you can always keep making friends and growing as a person at any age!

After a brief hiatus due to COVID-19 we are happy to announce that Cantata’s Handyman Program is back taking ap-

pointments. In the last month, our Handymen Dan and Ned have been out in the community providing services to those 55 years and older while abiding by CDC guidelines.

We travel to many of the surrounding neigh-borhoods including Berwyn, Brookfield, Burr Ridge, Countryside, LaGrange, LaGrange Park, Lyons, North Riverside, Oak Park, Riverside, and Western Springs. For years our Handyman Services have been a go-to for individuals still living at home who need assistance with main-tenance such as gutter services, air condition installation and removal, plumbing, and grab bar installation.

Please refer to the list of the most common requests. For more information or to schedule an appointment please feel free to call Jenny at 708-387-1123. We hope everyone has a safe, healthy, and happy summer!

Our Father’s Day week celebration was a big success. The residents were able to go outside and connect with their fam-

ily members practicing social distancing and wearing a mask. The weather cooperated and there was a lot of sun to provide a nice environ-ment for fun-filled conversations. During the 4-day event, over 70 residents from The Wood-lands, Wye Valley and British Home were able to participate in the outdoor visits. Families came from all over the Chicagoland area and beyond, one family traveled over 2 ½ hours to meet with their loved ones. A common obser-vation of these interactions were many smiles, laughs, and sharing of fun stories.

This event was the first step recently approved by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) allowing residents and family mem-

bers to connect in a more comfortable setting for the first time since March. As the State of Illinois enters Phase 4 revitalization initia-tive, IDPH will likely continue with loosening restrictions for aging services organizations. In anticipation of this, we are putting plans in place for possible scheduled safe outdoor visits with your loved ones. In addition, we are look-ing at expanding our social distancing dining services, potential opening of the beauty shops and coordination of an outdoor entertainment event later this summer.

The key to opening up the campus to more activities, residents and family members is dili-gent practice of wearing masks in public, social distancing during social interactions, COVID testing, and not visiting when you are not feel-ing well.
