This latest edition offers a thorough explanation of the neurological basis of speech and language deficits associated with neurological diseases or brain injury. It covers the clinically-recognized forms of aphasia and motor speech disorders in both adults and children, as well as more recently-recognized language disorders including Parkinson’s and related diseases, right hemisphere damage, closed-head injury, and dementia. Brain imaging methods such as MRI and PET are outlined and their implications for speech-language pathology discussed.

Optimizing Cognitive Rehabilitation Effective Instructional MethodsBy McKay Moore Sohlberg, PhD, CCC-SLP and Lyn S. Turkstra, PhD, CCC-SLP

Rehabilitation professionals face a key challenge when working with clients with acquired cognitive impairments: how to teach new skills to individuals who have difficulty learning. Unique in its focus, this book presents evidence-based instructional methods specifically designed to help this population learn more efficiently. The expert authors show how to develop, implement, and evaluate an individualized training plan. They provide practical guidelines for teaching multistep procedures, cognitive strategies, the use of external aids, and more.

Attend this seminar and learn functional assessment techniques and discover how the cranial nerves drive both assessment and treatment. Join national speaker and dysphagia expert, Tiffani Wallace, MA, CCC-SLP, BRS-S, LSVT Certified Clinician,

MBSImP Registered Clinician, as she teaches you practical, functional and affordable strategies and techniques that can be immediately incorporated into your workday. Learn the latest, most effective techniques and exercises, including:

• Pharyngeal exercises

• Exercise-based therapy

• Oral manipulation

• Effortful swallow

• Using the bolus as resistance

Take home affordable alternative treatment tools and assessment techniques. Muscle-based exercise is emphasized throughout the course, along with ideas you can utilize the next day!
