Ensure PPE is present:• Gown
• Mask
• Eye protection*
• Gloves

Outside of Patient Room: Healthcare worker PPE donning
1. Perform hand hygieneApply the amount of product
recommended by the
manufacturer into the palm
of one hand.
Rub hands together.
Cover all surfaces of hands,
fingers, and wrists.
Rub until hands are dry
(at least 15 seconds).
Soap and water is an
acceptable alternative.
2. Put on gownFully cover torso from neck to
knees, arms to end of wrists;
snap at neck and tie in back.
If larger gown needed for full coverage, obtain disposable gown.

Inside Patient Room, Near Door: Healthcare Worker Doffing
1. Take off glovesGrab below wrist of first glove, pull off and dispose in waste container. Place bare finger under cuff of second glove, pull off and dispose in waste container.Perform hand hygiene
2. Remove gownUntie and unsnap. Roll inside out into a small bundle. Keep away from scrubs to avoid contamination. Place in linen bag. If disposable gown is worn, dispose in waste container.
3. Perform hand hygiene
Exit room with mask and eye protection still on.
Prepare doffing area inside doorway of patient room/exam room:
• Waste container
• Hand sanitizer
• Linen bag

In Hallway, Outside Patient/Exam Room: Healthcare Worker Doffing (Ante rooms are not used for doffing)
Plastic full-length face shield:Insert fingers on inside of face shield by foam. Pull away from face towards back of head. Set on clean table or clean chux. Dispose in waste container if physically damaged. Perform hand hygiene
Polycarbonate face shield: Grasp face shield by temples and lift up away from head at a diagonal. Set face shield on clean table or clean chux. Perform hand hygiene
Protective eyewear: Remove from face by touching bows of glasses. Set protective eyewear on clean table or clean chux. Perform hand hygiene
Mask with attached eye protection:Remove ear loops one at a time and avoid touching front of mask. Dispose in waste container. Perform hand hygieneSkip to step 5

3. Clean reusable eye protection
• Don gloves
• Clean inside of face shield, foam, and straps (or glasses/goggles) with hospital-grade disinfectant
• Hold the face shield (or glasses/goggles) in one hand. Wipe table with disinfectant using the other hand.
• Clean outside of face shield (or glasses/googles).
• Set the clean face shield (or glasses/goggles) on table.
• Doff gloves
• Perform hand hygiene
• Store in a clean and protected area when not in use. Mayo Clinic employees, follow PPE Reuse guidance for extended use.

4. Mask removal or extended use (Choose below based on extended use or mask removal)
Extended useIf a full-length face shield was worn, continue to wear mask following extended use guidance.
Remove mask
If mask is visibly soiled, damaged, or full-length face was NOT worn, dispose in waste container.
Remove ear loops one at a time. Avoid touching front of mask.
