PostScript® has been the backbone of the

digital pre-press workflow for many years and

PostScript 3 has taken it far beyond its

creators original expectations. CelebraNT Plus

is designed to give you maximum

control and increased functionality

when processing PostScript files.

Adobe developed Acrobat and

PDF (Portable Document Format)

with a long-term goal: to make

PDF one of the definitive pre-press

file format. PDF has many

advantages, including true cross-platform

compatibility, compact file sizes compared

with PostScript, display and output device

independence, and the capacity to include all

fonts, vector graphics and images in a single

and secure file.

Working closely with Adobe, Fujifilm

enhanced CelebraNT to embrace PDF and

make full use of its vast potential. The ability

within CelebraNT Plus to use PDF files not only

simplifies the pre-press process but adds

service value by allowing late in- or post-RIP

page editing with minimal impact on overall

processing times.

Within CelebraNT Plus, PostScript files can be

converted to PDF for rasterizing to a proofer

or imagesetter, saving time on multiple

interpreting from PostScript and minimizing

potential mismatches between proofs and

films or plates.

By integrating PDF into the CelebraNT Plus

workflow and job ticket system, jobs require

less manual intervention and can be delivered

more quickly.

CelebraNT Plus is based on Fujifilm’s popular

CelebraNT RIP software, which is now in use

in numerous pre-press facilities around the

world.

Working closely with Adobe – the inventors

of PostScript and PDF – Fujifilm has refined

and enhanced CelebraNT to process jobs

much faster. In addition to such major

features and functions as remote

client access to RIP set-up, full OPI

compliance and RIP Once

Proofing, we have added new

options. Because CelebraNT Plus

can now RIP individual pages

before imposition, you can perform

late page editing and replacement

without having to re-RIP a whole job: the

final RIP takes just a fraction of the time it used to. Another CelebraNT Plus

option allows you to generate a single ROOM (RIP Once, Output Many) file for

proofing and final output, which means that you can be certain that what you

proof is what will be printed.

Being modular, CelebraNT Plus can be used in its basic configuration to RIP on a

single Windows NT® server. At this level, CelebraNT Plus delivers proven results,

fast. It allows in-RIP trapping, as well as supporting TIFF-IT files and providing

Fujifilm Quality Screening in both conventional and FM modes. Other features

can be added to the basic package, such as CIP3 and various proofing options.

Take a look at how CelebraNT Plus works

in typical situations:

C R E A T I N G A J O B T I C K E T

The client supplies a document in one of the major page

layout packages such as QuarkXPress™, PageMaker® or

InDesign®. Some or all of the scans were supplied to the

client as lo-res positionals and the hi-res images were stored

on your OPI server.

A Job Ticket is created and all of the print parameters can

either be set up from scratch or an existing Job Ticket, which

CelebraNT Plus has stored for another client or a similar type

of job, can be called up. The Job Ticket holds all of the

information needed at every stage of the RIP and output

procedure, removing all the guesswork.

The operator, working on a networked PC or Macintosh, can

carry out a variety of tasks from the Job Ticket function:

• Set up preview options.

• Choose the type of input data, which could include PostScript 3

or PostScript Level 2, PDF, TIFF-IT, TIFF or EPS file formats.

• Pre-flight check to ensure all potential problems are caught

before committing to film or plate.

• Determine the proofing options and device to be used.

CelebraNT Plus supports Fujifilm PictroProof, FinalProof and a

range of Hewlett Packard proofers.

• Instead of using the trapping settings in the supplied

document, parameters can be specified for in-RIP trapping.

This allows trapping parameters which are specific types of

print job, paper stocks and presses to be applied.

• Set up output resolution, lateral reversal, rotation and printer’s

marks. Screen ruling can be standard or FM (stochastic), both

based around Fujifilm’s renowned Quality Screening system.

The parameters can be saved as a Job Ticket, either by job

type or by client, ensuring consistency of output on future,

similar jobs.

Where CelebraNT Plus really shines is when, as sofrequently happens, a ripped job is about to beoutput and the client makes a last-minute changeto one of the pages. It could be a typo that wasmissed or it could be an image replacement –either way, only the altered page is re-sent to theRIP for re-ripping. The re-ripped page is insertedinto the existing signature using the CelebraNT PlusPlacement Editor and, along with the remainingalready ripped pages, is re-output in the shortestpossible time.

Any client workstation can make the changes fromthe RIP Manager so other work need not beinterrupted.

Once the Job Ticket is set up, the pages of a job can be sent toRIP. CelebraNT Plus rips files forpopular imposition software, or it can work with the Workflowoption to add functionality thatproves particularly useful whenclients make last-minute changesto individual pages.

In its standard form, CelebraNTPlus will RIP a complete imposedset, placing hi-res images pulledfrom an OPI server in the process.

With the Workflow optioninstalled, CelebraNT Plus works in a very different way:

One of the criticisms aimed

at digital workflow systems

is that a digital proof may

not be relied upon to show

up problems before the

presses roll. CelebraNT Plus

puts an end to this problem

by creating a single ripped

file for both proofing and

output to film or plate

(ROOM: RIP Once, Output

Many). Advanced software

steps in to de-screen the

ripped file so that any

compatible proofer will show

exactly what will be imaged

to film or plate.

A multi-page document inPostScript or PDF format is dividedinto its component pages, thenCelebraNT Plus creates a low-resEPS placement and a hi-res bitmapfor each page.

The low-res files can be importedinto an imposition package whileCelebraNT Plus is still ripping theremaining pages, dramaticallyspeeding up the ripping/impositionprocess and improving workflow.

The imposition file returns toCelebraNT Plus where, in a matterof seconds, the template alone isripped: the pre-ripped hi-resbitmaps are inserted into theripped template and the job isoutput.
