Our training institute, OTI got into a festive mood when our retired missionaries arrived in ones, twos and in groups for a 3 day get

thtogether, on the 19 October, 2015. Each one of them was greeted with a bouquet of roses. Rev.J.Isaac, the meeting coordinator welcomed all of them, followed by an exhortation from the Word by our general secretary, Rev.John Wesley.Our guests, Dr.Naveen Thomas, the Director & Dr.Dominic, HoD, Geriatrics from the Bangalore Baptist hospital led in thought provoking sessions on God's Sovereignty over our lives and ageing gracefully. Mr.Shibu K Matthew, editor, Ethne magazine gave tips on 'Constructive Retired life'. Mrs. Juno Sudhakar from MUT presented information on MUT's schemes for the retired missionaries. Mr.Julius of Bangalore talked on the attitudes to be embraced. During free time, our missionaries enjoyed chatting with each other. The OTI staff and candidates treated them with a 'fun time'. Rev. George Raju, our retired missionary brought a joyful devotion on 'Staying Fresh and Fruitful (even) in the old age'. Mr.John Lancaster (Friends of IEM, UK) held everyone spellbound sharing how he is busy in the Lord's service at the very young age of 83!! The meeting ended with a very solemn time of a communion service led by our retired missionary Rev.T.V.Thomas. General Secretary Rev. P. John Wesley suggested future ways of keeping in touch with each other and the get together ended with a prayer.

Election results might surprise us. Opinion poll projections could go wrong. We always want a government who is favourable to be formed so that Christians could live a peaceful life. Some years ago when the Parliament Elections was approaching in India, all the Christians of all denominations got together and encouraged the Churches and all the Christians to fast and pray for the election. When such situation comes, I don't know what would have been your prayer to the Lord! Whichever government that comes to power, it may not be perfect and it may not uphold the Biblical values and ethos.

Christmas reminds us in Isaiah 9:6 that the government will be on the shoulders of Jesus, the Son of God. The Bible tells us that the ultimate authority and power of the entire universe belongs to the LORD. He changes times and seasons; he deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning (Daniel 2:21). When millions of the world who are in confusion, groping in darkness, searching and restless without finding the true light, I always thank the Lord, because I know who reigns over the world who is the light of the world our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ (Isaiah 9:2).

We are at the threshold of a New Year! A new era of IEM also begins; with a new General Secretary. We might have many questions. Who is going to take the Mission forward? Who reigns over this Mission? The answer without any doubt is: It is the Lord Jesus on whose shoulder the government rests; every individual and every nation of the world. Therefore, IEM is under the sovereign reign of the Lord. In this scenario let us recognise the reign of the Lord in all generations, rejuvenate yourselves with the power of the Lord and reinforce the peace of the Lord amidst uncertainty.

Recognise the Reign of the Lord in all generations: God brings one down, he exalts another (Psalm 75: 6,7). Kingdoms of the every nation in the past and present are established by the LORD. The Lord displayed His purpose and power through king Pharaoh (Romans 9:17). From the first century till the present time Kings, Rulers, Presidents and Prime ministers of the nations persecuted and killed Christians. Hitler desired to destroy the influence of the Christian Church. Today, Christians in more than 60 countries face persecution. In these circumstances, we might ask does our Lord reign. Jesus forewarned and encouraged that we are blessed and we should rejoice and be glad because the Lord reigns. (Mathew 5:11,12) There will be an increase of His government from generation to generation and the zeal of the LORD of hosts will accomplish this. (Isaiah 9:7).

The Spirit of Christ is the Spirit of Missions. When the Spirit takes control of the missionary enterprise, it is needless to say revival breaks out. An extract of this role of the Spirit in Missions from the message given by Bible Teacher Bro. R.Stanley, founder, Blessing youth Mission during the Golden Jubilee National convention of IEM held at Bangalore from Oct 22-25, 2015..

World evangelization is not an easy task. That is why

the Word of the Lord came to Zerubabbel, “Its not by might not by power but by My Spirit says the Lord of Hosts.” U n f o r t u n a t e l y w e a r e depending more on our strategies and systems and not on the Spirit of the Lord.

ndIsaiah 32 chapter. Verse 15 starts with the pouring of the Spirit. Until the outpouring of the Spirit there will be only thorns and briers. This I am sure is the heart cry of many of us who are not satisfied with the present status quo. We want to see the outpouring rain from heaven. That is Pentecostal. What is the end result of that outpouring? Whoever calls on the Name of the Lord will be saved. When there is an outpouring, there is an unprecedented ingathering of souls. There are 6 vital areas in which the Spirit helps in this endeavour.

1. The Holy Spirit Burdens us to Pray.Turn to the book of Romans and see the missionary heart

of Apostle Paul. Rom9: 1 I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Spirit, a great sorrow and continual grief in my heart. What is the Burden and prayer? 10:1 Brethren my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved. If we adapt this verse to our situation it could be, brethren my heart's desire and prayer to God for India is that she may be saved. Routine prayers are always there. I am talking of prayers as a result of burden given by the Holy Spirit tarrying upon our hearts. If the Holy Spirit burdens you about the perishing souls you will feel like the pregnant woman in her full term. Such kind of burden should grip us, which can be given only by the Holy Spirit. Unfortunately many Christ ians have become strangers to this kind of travailing prayer.

2. The Holy Spirit empowers us to witnessActs 1:8 You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit

Refresh with the Power of the Lord to do more: Governments of different nations look at the countries who are superpowers in the world. There is always stiff competition between those countries who claim themselves as the superpowers to overpower the other. Every government should realise that they are under the real superpower of the entire world who is the Lord Jesus Christ! No nation would want to share their power with others. But Jesus wants to share His power. Jesus is born for us and belongs to us (Isaiah 9:6; Luke 2:11). Whoever has the Son has life (1John 5:12). We have continuous power because the Holy Spirit is with us (Acts 1:8, 1 John 2:27). Jesus is able to establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness from then on and forevermore (Isaiah 9:7). Therefore, we are 'Strengthened to stretch out' (Isaiah 54:2) IEM Theme 2016.

Reinforce the Peace of the Lord amidst uncertainty: Isaiah 9:7 tells 'His government and its peace will never end.' No government of this world enjoys real peace and total peace all the time. This is the real need of the world that we live in. We need peace in our personal life and professional life. Every community and unreached people group needs peace. Jesus Christ the prince of peace said: My shalom I give to you (John 14:27). He left peace in this peace less world. He never promised that He will remove tribulations but He promised His peace. Therefore, our feet are fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace (Ephesians 6:15). Wherever we go, we pronounce peace to each home (Luke 10:5). Thus, the prophecy of the angel "Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased" is fulfilled (Luke 2:14).

comes upon you and you shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem in all Judea, Samaria and to the ends of the world. The Bible says when the early disciples prayed, the place was shaken, but these days we don't pray so our places are taken. There was a stirring inside of them. What did they do? They spoke the Word with power with a new boldness. God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, what did He do? He went out. Above all else we need the gifts of the Holy Spirit for evangelism. That's what revival will assure us. That's what the outpouring of the Holy spirit will bring. The Bible says 'desire spiritual gifts'. Peter and John even though they were not well educated, when they opened their mouth the gift of the Word of wisdom operated, the gift of t h e W o r d o f k n o w l e d g e operated, the gift of faith operated, the gift of miracles operated. My heart's cry to God is that God would give us another Pentecost. Let people see the bo ldness in our preaching.

3. The Holy Spirit directs us to go.Philip was an evangelist. W o n d e r f u l t h i n g s w e r e happening in the villages of S a m a r i a . M i r a c l e s w e r e happening. Demons were cast out, people believed in the Word. In Acts 8: 29 The Holy Spirit said to Philip, “There is

this finance minister going. Go run after him, I want that soul.” See how the Holy Spirit directs us to individual souls. Peter was sitting in a house. A vision came to him. He did not understand that vision. He could not accept it. The Spirit said to Peter, “Two men are searching for you. “ Peter says the Spirit made me go. Where? to a non Jewish family, to the house of Cornelius. Pray for all those in your locality, suddenly the Holy Spirit will lead you to one particular family. That family will be open just like Cornelius heart was open. See how the Holy Spirit moved in the early situation in Acts 13.2 The Holy Spirit said, “Set apart Paul and Barnabas for the ministry.” They were sent out by the Holy Spirit. Who gave the direction? The Holy Spirit gave the direction. The Holy Spirit is the Chief Operating Officer of missions and evangelism today. The apostles were going from place to place. When they came to Asia the Holy Spirit stopped them. The general command was to go, but at that time the Holy Spirit stopped t h e m . H e t u r n e d t h e i r d i r e c t i on . They wen t t o Bithiniya, the Holy Spirit stopped them there also, so they landed in Macedonia. He is the one who directs all the missionary enterprise.

4.The Holy Spirit inspires to give.When the Holy Spirit came on

the early church, did Peter command the believers to sell their properties and bring the proceeds to the feet of the apostles? It was not so. They voluntarily sold their properties brought it and laid it at the feet of the apostles so that it could be distributed among the needy people. How did it happen? It was because of Pentecost. When they were filled with the Holy Spirit they got a glimpse of the glory of God that they lost the grip on the gold of this earth. The believers were so heavenly minded that it took care of the earthly needs also.

ndWhenever I read the 2 chapter of Acts, I hold on to my table and cry out Lord do it again. Acts 2: 44 is the real evidence of the filling of the Holy Spirit. New Testament giving is not calculated giving but cheerful giving. It is not statutory giving but sacrificial giving. I ask the Lord to send us such a kind of a revival. We have enough money a n d r e s o u r c e s f o r t h e evangelization of India. But we have not opened our purses. We must have a revival. Let there be a revival in the area of giving.

5. The Holy Spirit helps us to reap the harvest and gather the souls“In the last days I will pour out my Spirit and everyone who calls on the Name of the Lord will be saved.” Out pouring and ingathering. In the second chapter of Acts we had 3000

thsouls. In the 4 chapter it swelled up to 5000. And Luke

records thereafter multitudes joined the ranks. The greatest cu rse o f Chr i s t i an i t y i s satisfaction. Christians go through 3 stages. Salvation, satisfaction and stagnation. F i r s t o f a l l a s p i r i t o f dissatisfaction should grip us. Ankle deep is not enough. Knee depth is not enough. Even waist depth is not enough. We need to go swimming. The percentage of Christian population in India is an insult to the Lord of Hosts. That statistics is enough for all of us to cry in sackcloth before the altar.

6.The Holy Spirit strengthens us to sufferMissionary evangelism and persecution are inseparable. When the early disciples were persecuted the Bible says they were filled with the joy of the Holy Ghost. What did Paul say to the Ephesian elders? “ I don't know want awaits me, The Holy Spirit testifies in every city chains await me.” Don't be a la rmed a t pe rsecu t i on . Become alert if there is no persecution. When was the time the church d id not face persecution? Why did Jesus say of building and battling together? Let us not raise more sympathizers but soul winning supporters. Testimonies of missionaries should not chill people but thrill people. May God help us. Let us return to the Lord. Let us plead for revival. Revival which will bring perishing souls into the kingdom

Her cheerfulness to serve the master is contagious. We fondly remember our Aunty Manjula as we bid adieu to her. This is her testimony In her own words…“While I was still working in KEB (Karnataka Electricity board). I helped IEM doing the Kannada translation of the Outreach Magazine”.My husband Mr. Prasanna Kumar joined IEM as Finance Secretary before I joined as full time missionary. I joined in June 1988. Rev. Theodore Williams asked me to take up the role of Church Ministries' Secretary for Karnataka State. Our leaders helped me to conduct meetings in different places of Karnataka. Along with this work, I continued to translate the magazine regularly and also the leaflets 'What is IEM?' and 'Join the IEM Family' as well as Servants of the Cross, Doctrinal Deviation and Challenge of Missions. These books helped us to share about our ministry. With the encouragement of Mrs. Esther Williams, I could translate the first 50 psalms of God Alive. In 1990 volume one of these Psalms was printed and published. The next 50 Psalms were translated and printed in 1992. The whole book of God alive is now ready in Kannada.

I took retirement on 7th September 2001 owing to my husband's ill health. He had suffered a stroke in 1998, but continued the translation of IEM magazine till date. God has fulfilled my desire to make my son a Medical Missionary and he is very much involved in youth activities in our church (RTMC) and also among his students in the college. He is married to Mrs Dorothy and blessed with a son Pradeep Moses and daughter Kushi Roxanne.”Aunty Manjula attended the Senior Missionaries Retreat from

Golden Jubilee Convention report.To God be the glory! In the history of Indian Evangelical Mission (IEM), the year 2015 marks the fiftieth year of our existence and service. Hence, a grand four day Golden Jubilee Convention (GJC) was planned and celebrated from October 22 to 25, 2015 in Bengaluru. A steering committee for the GJC was formed on Nov 16, 2014. These men and women offered themselves to prayer, God's leading, planning and execution of the plans. The GJC was held at the India Campus Crusade for Christ Auditorium in the Lingarajapuram area. Bro. R. Stanley, Dr. (Mrs). Lillian Stanley, Prof. Karunakaran, Rev. John Wesley and Rev. Raja Singh were the key speakers of the GJC whose challenging messages moved the hearers. Bishops, pastors and many

Christian Leaders participated. Over 1300 delegates attended the GJC from all parts of India.

thWe released a Souvenir for the 50 IEM Golden Jubilee National Convention which carried the information of the 50-year history of the Indian Evangelical Mission. A blessed Pastors& Christian leaders' meet was held in which Pastor CA.Benjamin shared Gods' Word. Different choirs from Meghalaya, Bangalore and other places gave special songs. Dr.Prabu singh and Dr.PKD Lee shared from the word too. Mrs.Janet Prem ministered to the children. On 25th Sunday morning IEM missionaries ministered in nearly 20 local churches in Bangalore and challenged the congregations about missionary work.God answered our prayers and blessed the GJC to be a successful one. When the four days of GJC was over, the participants were very clear about what God required of them in the current scenario for the spreading of the Gospel in our beloved India.

October 19th-21st 2015 and was able to meet every one and spend time with them. Her cherished God Alive in one volume in Kannada was indeed dedicated on 22nd October, 2015. Just three days before her departure, she challenged youngsters to take over the IEM Outreach translation work from her! Her life was a fruitful one and a blessing to many. She completed her race faithfully.We praise God for her and the legacy she has left behind.
