SETTING
T
here were lots of settings in the book, but the one that
most appealed to me was the abandoned church house.
Ponyboy described it as a hard stone floor and gives him
the creeps. The church has a back porch type stairs as
described in the book. Later in the book the church burns
down in a fire.

CONFLICT
T
he conflict would be the hatred between the socials
(socs) and the greasers. The greasers are the poor
laid back type of people. The socials (socs) are the
rich, rude, party people as described in the book.
SUMMARY OF PLOT
On his was home from the movie where he met a girl named Cherry . He
stayed out to late and when he got home his oldest brother Darry slapped
him. He went down to the lot where a guy named Rob came and shoved
Ponyboy in a water fountain and Ponyboy started to drown. So Johnny
kills him with a switchblade. Johnny and Ponyboy runaway and doesn’t
tell anyone where they are going but Dallas/Dally. The place they are
staying at is a abandoned church out in the country. One day when they
were out the church burns down and children are stuck inside so
Ponyboy, Johnny, and later Dallas go inside to save them. Ponyboy and
Dallas get out with only minor burns and scratches but Johnny has a
broken back and they are all rushed to the hospital. Eventually Johnny
dies and because of this Dallas commits suicide.

POINT OF VIEW
T
he Outsiders is told in 1st person which means
Ponyboy is the one who tells the story. If it were told
in 3rd person a narrator would be telling the story not
Ponyboy. The book would be different because you
wouldn’t get as much details if a narrator was telling
the story.
SYMBOLISM
T
he struggle between the Socials (socs) and the
Greasers. The people who have money and the
people who don’t have money.
RECOMMENDATION
I
would recommend this book to the type of people
who like action. It was a really good book and I
would read it again
