Open classrooms
Thank you very much to all the parents and families who joined us for our
open classrooms this week. It was wonderful to see the children sharing
their work with you and to have a chance to talk through some of their
successes. If you were not able to join us, please do not worry, we will be
holding further sessions throughout the year.
Year 6 assembly
Thank you to our amazing Year 6 children, to Miss Mann, Mrs Summers and Mrs Hamilton for the fantastic celebration of your work so far this year. It was
wonderful to see how much you have all achieved and to share in your excitement for learning.
Thank you also to all the parents and families who attended the assembly. It
was wonderful that you were able to celebrate with us.
Patience
As a school over the past two weeks we have been exploring the theme of
patience. The children have been working hard to develop their patience
when they have to wait for something and their patience with each other.
We have been celebrating lots of examples where the children have been
patient with each other (showing kindness and compassion for others) and
where they have been patient in their learning (persevering and not giving
up).
We hope that you have seen some examples of this at home too!

Healthy lunchboxes
We have had some parents asking whether it is okay to put chocolate bars in packed lunch
boxes. As a school, our aim is to promote healthy eating as much as possible. Whilst we
recognise that a chocolate bar as a treat now and again is fine as part of a healthy diet we do try
and encourage the children to have these at home rather than as part of their lunch. We know
that often cereal bars or biscuits have a small amount of chocolate on them and we accept that
you may wish to include these as a small treat. Please however could you support us by not
including full chocolate bars in lunchboxes.
We have also noticed that some children have started to bring squash in their water bottles. We
only encourage water in the school water bottles. This again is part of our bid to encourage
healthy drinking habits and to reduce tooth decay. Please could you support us by only sending
water in the water bottles.

Parking
Please could we ask that you do not park or wait in
cars on the yellow lined areas in front of the school
gates. We have received a number of concerns from
local residents and from parents at the school . Our
key priority is the safety of the children so please help
us to keep them safe by keeping these designated
access areas clear. The local police will be making
some spot check visits over the coming months to
support us with this.
Severe Weather
In case of severe weather conditions please use the following for up-dates regarding school
closures:
The local radio station will have regular up-dates about closed schools on:
Radio Gloucestershire 104.7 FM
You can now also log on to the following websites for
information:
www.glosclosedschools.com
www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/closedschools
www.glosclosedschools.co.uk
www.thejohnmooreprimary.org
Please note, the school would only need to close if not enough staff could get into school safely, or the
Health and Safety of the children in the school was at risk.
Texting Service - We also have our
teachers2parents texting system, so should be
able to send a text out to everyone in the event
of a school closure—provided internet services
are working!
Lost property
We still have a considerable amount of lost
property that has been with us since the
end of last term. This includes coats,
jumpers, gloves and hats. If your child has
lost something, please
visit the main office and
hopefully we can reunite
you.

Exciting events
OUR SCHOOL VISION ‘Our vision is to provide an excellent education for all that enables each individual to achieve
their very best and where everyone is valued and respected.’
Slippers!
This week in Reception we had a visit from the local
press as they were very interested in our slipper project. We had great fun talking to the reporter
about why we love wearing our slippers. We showed off our slippers and enjoyed having our photos taken! Watch out for our photos in the local press! This can
be accessed via the Gloucestershire live website www.gloucestershirelive.co.uk
Visit from the Toy Museum In Year 1 last week, we had an
amazing visit from the Toy Museum. We were able to play with and explore lots of old toys. These toys were not electronic and did not need batteries.
We had such fun and learnt a lot about how they were made.
Year 2 Food Tasting
As part of our Geography topic, we are
comparing life in the Caribbean to here in
Tewkesbury. We had a great time tasting a
variety of fruits that are grown in St.Lucia
(including coconut!) In our Art sketch books
we then drew the inside and outside of each
fruit, studying the wide variety of patterns
and lines. The results are beautiful!
Mini Marines
In Year 3, we are loving our Friday
mornings where we are extending
our physical development through
the Mini Marines program.
