Other days, Spring means rainy, cold days where we want to curl up under the covers with a cup of tea or coffee. Here in Chicago, we also have those days where it starts out one kind of weather and then all of a sudden switches up to something completely different. Here are some Spring ideas for changing the world, regardless of what the weather throws at you. When your want to stay in… Spring clean your computer! When was the last time you cleaned your coffee maker? Use vinegar or a coffee cleaning product. Starting to plan your summer vacation? Look into environmentally friendly travel options. For example, trains use a lot less fuel than planes. Round up donations! Get all the roommates involved and see how much you can round up. Check you air conditioner to make sure it works before the weather gets too hot. When you want to go out… Appreciate some nature visit the zoo or a park. Round up your recyclables and take a trip to the recycling station. Call a friend and visit an outdoor café. Get together a group of friends or neighbors for a dinner barbeque. Wear flip-flops. You feet need to breathe after being cooped up all winter. Visit a local farmers’ market or art fair. See below for a list of especially fresh fruits and vegetables. Going Green with Overflow Celebrating St. Patrick's Day with an Environmental Focus

March 20, 2010 6:30pm – 8:30pm

South Loop Wine Cellar (1442 South Michigan Avenue) Cover: $12 for wine, appetizers and desserts.

($7 if you’re under 21)

Come, have fun, and enjoy some organic wine, food, live music, ideas for

"going green" throughout the year, and networking. You’ll also be supporting Overflow Coffee Bar and the Alliance for a Greener South Loop.

There will be a leprechaun there too!!!

Having a Spring picnic or need some fuel for a day of playing Frisbee? In the Midwest, the following fruits and vegetables are freshest during the Spring months. Think of these first when picking up a meal or a snack or visiting a farmers’ market.

Asparagus (April through June)

Lettuce (May through October)

Peas (June through August)

Radishes (May through October)

Rhubarb (April through June)

Strawberries (June and July)
