New Alpha Screens Cinema

Grand Opening

Alpha Screens to Open New Deluxe Cinema in Newton

Alpha Screens are delighted to announce the opening of the latest addition to their chain of deluxe cinemas, Alpha Screen Newton. We at Alpha Screens are leaders in the field of cinema entertainment, offering state of the art facilities, built in the most prestigious locations in the UK. Bridging the gap between smaller cinemas and large multiplexes, we pride ourselves on our ability to provide quality, value and personal service. We offer all of the latest films from the latest blockbuster action movies to handpicked, independent films from around the world. Our cinemas offer the highest quality digital projection and sound, which creates an extraordinary cinematic experience. This fully immersive experience places you at the heart of the action and makes you feel as if you are part of the film. Using cutting-edge technology, the on-screen experience is brought to life in a way that you will never have encountered before. We appreciate that in today’s world our customers have a choice. Rather than go out to a cinema, many people now prefer to watch the latest films on large screen televisions in the comfort of their own home. That is why we offer an unparalleled cinematic experience which will entice you back to our venues again and again. Once you have parked your car in your reserved parking space, you will be greeted by one of our friendly reception team. You might like to dine at one of our restaurants before the show. Or, like many of our customers, you may prefer to relax in comfort in our lounge cinema with your snacks and drinks close at hand. Whichever you choose, the electronic screen in your armrest will allow you to order food, more drinks or even reserve a lane in our ten-pin bowling alley for after the film finishes. When you visit Alpha Screens you are not just seeing a film – you are our guest for the evening. Come and see it for yourself. We look forward to welcoming you.

Document 2 – newspaper article

Newton Gazette

Your local newspaper

The new Alpha Screens cinema complex By Ella Roberts 1 From a post-war high, the number of people

visiting the cinema each year has dropped dramatically and is now static, with approximately 170 million visits to the cinema last year. With big screen TVs now cheaper than ever, people are seemingly choosing to watch films in the comfort of their home rather than venture out to cinemas.

a wide range of food and drink in a relaxed atmosphere. It’s fair to say that it is a little more expensive than we are used to in Newton but you are paying for the experience as well as what you order. Even on this busy opening night, staff were warm and accommodating and worked hard to make us feel comfortable and welcome.

5 Adding to the personal touch, an usher announces each film 10 minutes before it starts, allowing people time to take their seats. Talking of seats, much has been made of the smart chairs that Alpha have installed to allow users to access a range of services without moving. I was very impressed with my comfortable seat and found it easy to order more drinks without leaving my chair. Of course, all this extra space and service does come at an extra cost, but it adds to the experience.

6 After the film, I decided to try the restaurant. It is immediately obvious that the restaurant is aimed at both cinema goers and food lovers alike, with an exciting menu that will appeal to most people. They clearly want to be judged independently from the cinema which seems sensible to avoid numerous empty tables during showings.

2 In an attempt to reverse the trend, cinemas are increasingly looking for ways to entice cinema goers back by offering more services including restaurants, bars and other activities, such as ten pin bowling. Alpha Screen’s new offering in Newton is an example of the recent move towards high end cinemas that aim to cater for film lovers of all ages by offering a wide range of films in a luxurious setting.

7 All in all, the evening was really enjoyable and Newton has an exciting new entertainment complex to be proud of.

8 My real concern is – will it survive? True, the Alpha Screens complex really does offer something new, but will it be enough to convince more people to pay to come to the cinema? Newton Town Council has given Alpha Screens a significant subsidy in the form of reduced business rates. Their aim is to create new jobs in the area and to boost the local economy in the hope that local residents will flock to the complex in numbers and support the development.

3 The Alpha screens complex opened last night with a high profile event that included a showing of the latest Hollywood blockbuster – Stormy Skies.

4 On arriving at the Alpha Screens complex, it is clear that it is unlike any other cinema we have had in the Newton area before. The restaurant and bar can compete with any in town, offering

Document 3 – local forum

LOCAL LIFE FORUM

NEWTON Markets, events, things to see and do – this is the site for you to chat with friends about everything that goes on in Newton and to say what you think. Alex Good luck to everyone at Alpha Cinemas, Newton.

Jamal They’ll need it!! I haven’t been to the cinema in five years. I’ve bought a 55-inch 4K TV and a Netflix subscription. Why do I need to go out? LOL Bliss! Layla Went to the restaurant last night – enjoyed the meal. Doubt I’d do film and a big meal in one evening though. Wouldn’t want to fork out that sort of cash for one night out! Café and bar looked great, but no-one there – and no atmosphere. Doubt they’ll make enough money. Reckon the place will be gone within a year.

Ben I don’t like living in Newton anymore. The town is dead and a new cinema won’t make any difference! They’ve wasted their money coming here and the Council wasted our money subsidising them. Don’t waste yours on visiting this dump!

Mia I went two days ago and hardly anyone was there. Other than that, yeah, it’s great – comfortable, friendly, entertaining. All you could ask for. Just hope more people start turning up. Be such a shame if it can’t make ends meet.

Jack I work at the cinema, this is just what Newton needs! It’s a bit expensive but you get what you pay for and it’s great for a treat or a special night out.
