Hans Van Nuffel (°1981) graduated from the Brussels RITS film academy. His graduation project, the highly acclaimed short Het einde van de rit (The End Of The Ride), won him a prestigious VAF Wildcard (Wild Cards provide development funding and mentoring for the winning film students to make their first independent projects) from the Flanders Audiovisual Fund. With this wildcard, he directed a second short, FAL (2007), a hard-boiled drama about a revengeful arms dealer, which won an award at the International Short Film Festival Leuven and the Jury Award at the 2008 Montréal World Film Festival. Hans continued to direct the stylish short Nachtraven (Nighthawks), a story on vampires and love. Hans is considered one of Flanders’ most promising new talents. During the past two years, he has been working on his feature film debut Oxygen.

ABOUT THEPRODUCTION COMPANY

Tom and his brother Lucas are bright young men who suffer from an illness that is slowly destroying their lungs. Tom struggles with his short life-expectancy and hangs out with petty criminals.

Enter his hospital neighbor Xavier who suffers from the same illness but behaves like an athlete and infuses Tom with optimism. Tom enjoys his new friend and finds love with quirky quarantine girl Eline.

But when his brother Lucas dies during a lung transplant, Tom is devastated. He hides with his criminal friends and breaks away from Xavier and Eline.

Much later, Tom and Xavier meet again when they are up for a lung transplant. Slowly, their friendship rekindles…

OXYGEN is a compelling drama laced with humor about limited time and unlimited love.

A Private View, created in 1994, is an independent production company based in Ghent. The company is headed by producer-screenwriter-novelist Jean-Claude van Rijckeghem (who co-wrote the script of Moscow, Belgium with Pat Van Beirs) and producer Dries Phlypo. The company’s production credits include several youth-oriented features such as The Ball (1998) and Science Fiction (2002), both directed by Dany Deprez, and such local crowd-pleasers as Long Weekend (Hans Herbots, 2005), A Perfect Match (Miel van Hoogenbemt, 2007) and the award-winning international hit Moscow, Belgium (Christophe van Rompaey, 2008).
