Preface ToOxy's Bodacious Chest Of Pictonymphs

Volume 6Bodacious, a mixture of the "bold" and "audacious," is said to have been coined by the author ofthe comic strip Barney Google as a synonym for "The Cat's Meow" or the very nicest of allthings, suggesting a combination of fun, flare, originality and style. Alternately, it has beencredited to describing the British warrior-queen Boudiccas (Boadicea) expression of femininepower in her leading the British tribes in their uprising against the Roman Empire's occupation ofBritain. Bodacious evokes images of impressiveness, awesomeness, the coolest, totally rad, extraordinary, and the like.

Oxy in his Bodacious Chest Of Pictonymphs has slurped in the tastiest, juiciest, tenders tidbits ofpictorial Oxymania and regurgitated it so as to pictorially amaze, educate, flabbergast, shock, joltand entertain you in the oddest areas and ways, though here in a mostly PG13 manner (and if not,electronic "pasties" and/or, hopefully, relevant, interesting and/or amusing "overlays" have beenstrategically, yet discreetly applied), to present for your exploration a brimming buxom chest.

As many of you know, I am Oxy (short for Oxymoron), a boastfully Sharp (OXY) & admittedlyDull (MORON) bovine eater of hay and haywire. Not an author, but a slurper and parodier of alltasty and/or chewy written and pictorial concepts and items that have a devilish tang ofcontradiction, conflict, inconsistency, incongruity, irony, 'Double Entendre' &/or opinion. Thus,my aim is to figuratively sharply & dully recapitulate, reassemble and/or reanimate such byslurping in & spitting out prime tasty tidbits, at times chewed down, paraphrased, photoshoppedand/or edited for fit, flow or flabbergastation, as: "What's the use of a good quotation if you can'tchange it [Dr. Who]?"

The concept of a picture being worth a 1000 or 10,000 words does not appear to go all the wayback to Confucius, as some profess, but is traceable as far back as 1862 to the novel by Ivan S.Turgenev, Fathers and Sons: "The drawing shows me at one glance what might be spread overten pages in a book." Then in March, 1911 newspaper editor Arthur Brisbane, in the context ofpromoting Streetcar advertising, advised the Syracuse Advertising Men's Club to "use a picture,It's worth a thousand words." This was followed a decade later by Frederick R. Barnard assertingin the December 8, 1921 issue of Printer's Ink that "One look is worth a thousand words", andagain by him in the March 10, 1927 issue of Printer's Ink where he inflated this concept to "Onepicture is worth ten thousand words."
