Prayer for VocationsHeavenly Father, we thank you for the gift of the priesthoodand consecrated life. We beseech your Holy Spirit to inspiremen and women in the Archdiocese of Washington toanswer the call to the priesthood and consecrated life. Givethem the courage to embrace their vocation, the faith andzeal to follow you with joy; and the perseverance to remainloyal friends of your Son. Please protect and strengthen allpriests, deacons, and consecrated brothers and sisters,especially those in the Archdiocese of Washington. Help allChristians to become better disciples of Jesus, and when ourearthly pilgrimage is complete, bring us to the joy of yourKingdom. We ask you this through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

Prayer for PriestsLord Jesus, you have chosen your priests from among us andsent them out to proclaim your word and act in your name.For so great a gift to your Church, we give you praise andthanksgiving. We ask you to fill them with the fire of yourlove, that their ministry may reveal your presence in theChurch. Since they are earthen vessels, we pray that yourpower shines out through their weakness. In their afflictionslet them never be crushed, in their doubts never despair, intemptation never be destroyed, and in persecution neverabandoned. Inspire them through prayer to live each day themystery of your dying and rising. In times of weakness sendthem your Spirit, and help them to praise your HeavenlyFather and pray for poor sinners. By your same Holy Spiritput your word on their lips and your love in their hearts, tobring good news to the poor and healing to the brokenheart-ed. And may the gift of Mary, your Mother, to the disciplewhom you loved, be your gift to every priest. Grant that shewho formed you in her human image, may form them in yourdivine image, by the power of your Spirit, to the glory of Godthe Father, Amen.

Dear Friend in Christ,The words of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta tell us that“Little things are little indeed, but to be faithful in littlethings is a great thing...like Jesus we belong to theworld living not for ourselves but for others. The joy ofthe Lord is our strength.”

Mother Teresa was raised in a prayerful family.Through prayers and the urging of her parish priest she responded to God’s call. We have witnessed herextraordinary life in our time. Beside her devotion to thepoorest of the poor, Mother also realized the necessity ofprayer to sustain her work and vocations.

Often we have a desire to serve others, but we don’tknow where to begin. A most effective way is throughprayer. The Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Vocation Societyis a prayer society that asks for your commitment ofprayer. Your prayer will nurture the growth ofvocations. Who better to follow than the example ofBlessed Teresa of Calcutta whose love for priests andinterest in the growth of those consecrated to thereligious life was so evident? Please consider becoming avital part in the work of vocations.

As a member of the Blessed Teresa of CalcuttaVocation Society (BTCVS), you are asked to:

PRAY daily for an increase in vocations to thepriesthood and consecrated life.

PRAY daily for the perseverance and an outpour-ing of graces for the seminarians, priests, deacons,and men and women in the consecrated life.

Suggested prayerful offerings as a member:

• Offer daily the vocation prayer on this pamphlet.

• Pray the Rosary daily for vocations or offer adecade of the Rosary daily.

• Pray in front of the Blessed Sacrament.

• Include vocations in your Mass intentions (oroffer one Mass a month for vocations).

• Offer a share of your sufferings for the persever-ance of priests, deacons and consecrated menand women.
