Preschool - 8 September 2019 Newsletter Important Upcoming Events Welcome back everyone! We are off to a great start on another memorable school year here at Kuemper! We were blessed to have celebrated the Eucharist as a K-12 student body and staff at our Back to School All School Mass. What a way to kick off the school year. Simply breathtaking! The big changes this past summer include updates at the Holy Spirit playground including field turf to help preserve our green space as well as our biggest move of shifting 4th and 5th grade to St. Lawrence and 7th and 8th to St. Angela. These changes have already been positive for our students and have started providing them more opportunities long term. For instance, our 7th graders will all have a Foods class for 6 weeks this year to help them learn the basics of cooking and our 8th graders will all have a Woods class for 6 weeks to help them learn the basics of woodworking. Our students really seem excited about these changes! As a Kuemper staff and faculty, we would like to thank all of the parents for sharing your child(ren) with us. Your children are blessed by your sacrifice to give them a Catholic education by sending them to Kuemper. Thank you! God’s Blessings to all of you this school year! Special Notes...The master school Google calendar is available at www.kuemper.org on the left side of the page. This is where the school lunch menu can be found as well.Check your Infinite Campus Parent Portal often for numerous items (i.e. lunch account information, student schedules, report cards, etc…) When you are on Infinite Campus, please check and update your contact information if necessary. All students should have gym shoes that they change into for their P.E. class. All regular Mass times are at 8:20 this school year. NEW THIS YEAR - St. Lawrence (Grades 4-6) and St. Angela/KHS (Grades 7-12) Masses are on Wednesdays and Holy Spirit (Grades K-3) are on Thursdays. You are invited to join us in celebrating our weekly Masses at all of our centers! If you email a change of plans to your child’s teacher, please copy it to [email protected] in the Holy Spirit office, [email protected] in the St. Lawrence office, or [email protected] in the St. Angela office. Sickness can sometimes reach teachers and we will have a substitute in the room. Those substitutes do not have access to the teacher’s email and your child won’t get the message.Special Request: Because the end of the day becomes quite hectic, please try to have all messages to us by 2:00.Dismissal: If you are picking up your child after school, please park on the playground of the Holy Spirit Center or behind the school at St. Lawrence. At 3:13 the doors at Holy Spirit will be unlocked so you may enter the building and wait by your child’s classroom door. School is dismissed at 3:15 at Holy Spirit and St. Angela and at 3:30 pm for the St. Lawrence Center.Just a reminder that all doors are now locked throughout the school day for safety purposes. You need to press the buzzer button at the front entrance of each center and be “buzzed” in by the building secretary. We ask that you please wait and make sure that your child is able to get into the building when dropping them off after an appointment. Thank you!

Your "trash" is our treasure...

BoxTops is going digital. You may have noticed the new "Scan" logo on some of the General Mills products. I have included information about how to use the new app in this newsletter. During the transition, General Mills will allow us to "double-dip"! So if you see a BoxTop on GM products, scan your receipt for credit and also clip off the BoxTop and send it into school! BoxTops Contest: We will do a school wide goal to get started this year. If we can raise $1000 by the fall deadline of Oct 31st, everyone will get a reward. So download the app and scan and also keep clipping and send in to school! Pizza Ranch has discontinued their "Covered Wagons" logos from their delivery boxes. Our Pizza Ranch will give us credit for any we do have collected, so please send them to school now! Keep saving the Godfather's "Fedora" hat logos. If you have any questions about these programs, contact Marlys at [email protected] or stop her and ask!

We are excited to share that our 4th - 6th grade students are

engaging this year in a new reading curriculum, Fountas & Pinnell

Classroom. Fountas and Pinnell offers a wide variety of rich

literature with a guided reading approach and was successfully

implemented in grades K-3 last school year.

Students learn grade level reading and writing skills through mini

lessons and interactive read alouds with authentic picture books.

The classrooms  are filled with rich text for all of our students to

learn from and enjoy as well as to make reading come alive.

Students will also receive small group instruction at their individual

reading level during the Guided Reading portion of the literacy

block. During this time, the students will be learning and practicing

skills at their instructional level.

Fountas and Pinnell Classroom will create an excitement of

literature and foster a love for reading in students!

Attached is an overview video of Fountas & Pinnell Classroom. We

look forward to the adventures that our students will go on each day

through reading.

Continuing to create a passion for knowledge!
