    Natural Recycling at P9 Main

Composting is nature’s way of recycling organic

materials into rich soil known as compost. Compost

energizes the soil and helps plants to grow. At P9 all

    students help to compost.

    Vincent Parks

    of Class V14

    collects broccoli

    for compost

    from Dorvens

     Nacelus of

    Class V09.

    Vincent Park

    and Melvin

    Howard of

    Class V14

    empty container

    into compost

    tumbler

The tumbler was purchased with a grant from the

Pollination Project. The compost will be used in 5

gallon buckets that will be used to grow vegetables.

These "portable gardens" which have been donated

from Fairway and Stop and Shop will be donated to

local nursing homes free of charge for their residents

    to experience home grown vegetables.

Dr. Seuss’s Birthday Bash at PS 9@882

Our literacy teacher, Ms. Alvarez, collaborated with all our

classroom teachers to pay tribute to the legendary, Dr.

Seuss. The month of March our staff and students read

Seuss’s stories, studied his life, career and

    accomplishments.

Each class chose a Dr. Seuss book and created a project that

depicted their favorite part. Student’s created dioramas and posters

to illustrate that part they loved. They worked hard on their

projects to honor our favorite author.

On March 31, Ms. Alvarez threw

a birthday party for Dr. Seuss.

    She decorated the cafeteria and

displayed all the students’ projects. Everyone at 882 came

    to celebrate. Before playing the

movie, Dr. Seuss’s The Cat In

The Hat , we sang the happy

     birthday song for our favorite

author and cut a custom made

    cake, just for him!

    My Math Haiku poem

    Multiplication is

    a hard mathematical

    concept

    that deals with numbers

Pi is a never-ending number, which shows the ratio of a circlescircumference to its diameter. March 14th is called Pi Day

because the date 3/14 is the first three numbers of Pi.

The Speech Department from P9@PS58 participated in theCitywide Speech Services Film Festival by having the

students participate in a tea party. The children worked

most of the year learning about all aspects of a tea party:

what you need for a tea party, proper etiquette, going

shopping, writing shopping lists, what to wear to a tea

party, writing and responding to invitations, setting the

table, and preparing the food. The Tea Party took place on

March 30, 2016. The children enjoyed the whole process!A good time was had by all.
