The Problem?

CD & DVD Packing

Most of the Australian CD & DVD Packages are essentially made from a polycarbonate, also known as plastic, as we all know, it is has dire consequences on the environment when being produced or manufactured, the reason platstic has such a high endangerment to the environemtn is because the ingredients or elements used to make the polycarbonate arent made form a natural source, the bi products of plastic can produce toxic chemicals which can spew into the environent. Plastic also endangers the wildlife on the planet due to the lack of biodegradability. As Dallas Morning News(1999) illustrates: a compact disc or CD, is about 4.7 inches (12 centimeters) in diameter and 0.047 inches (1.2 millimeters) thick. Most of the CD packing consists of an injection-molded piece of clear polycarbonate plastic. The main polycarbonate material is produced by the reaction of bisphenol A (BPA) and phosgene COCl2. The overall reaction can be written as follows:

These kind of materials are very hard to recycle and lack a degratory ability meaning that if thrown away, plastic does not possess the ability to decompose.

In addition, the basic shape of CD & DVD embodies the geometrical shape of a square . When CD & DVD cases are stacked into rows at the counter, they tend to resemble the displeasing figure of "serial square tiles". The shape is quite monotonous and lacks an individual characteristic design.

Materials of Redesign Packing Used.

Water Proof Card Board Packing

Card board packing has plenty of benifits not only on the environment, but also on transportation. First of all, the strength of card board is more than adequate, this means that the resistance to impact and grinding is much better than other paper materials. Furthermore, card board provides excellent formability and flexibility and is quite easy to use in a variety of processing methods, it is also applies to the mechanization, automation packaging production. In addition, it has best printable characteristic, in this way, the products will be more beautiful in packing and will attract more customers. In addition to its adequate characteristics, the price of card board is seen as relatively cheap and the weight boasts at quite a lighter weight compared to plastic, this feature will reduce costs of packing and transport. Last but not the least, because cardboard is made from naturally sourced materials which help it decompose and break down into the soil; card board is easy to deal with, recyclable and can aslo be seen as a reusable source after use, it is extremely environmentally friendly, and save resources.

In order to prevent the possibility of water damage occuring to the CD & DVD, the card board packing will design a water proofing feature that will seal away moisture and prevent water from seeping in.

The Shape of Redesign Packing.

Dodecahedron

The redesign packing's shape is a dodecahedron. The dodecahedron features a unique shape due to the wide variety of faces featured on the shape itself, to visually imagine a dodecahedron you would have to envsion a circle being tapered at 25 degree angles on every side until you reach a honeycomb like structure which can be locked into place ensuring that minimal movement occurs when being transported thereby eliminating the factor of damaged goods. The dodecahedron’s astheitc features provide far exceed that of the ordinary CD & DVD package and will enable designers to go beyond their limitations of a square syrfce, instead graphic artists can now add depth to their designs and include more design features on the lexicon of faces that the dodecahedon has to offer. The reason is that the shape of CD is round, and dodecahedron is quite similiar like the CD. In this way, it is much better than the traditional square packaging when it comes to saving space. Meanwhile, the dodecahedron shape also has a great unique characteristic, it is quite astheically pleasing.

The main idea of the logo is from the name of the brand. Note is the most basic symbol of music, and the background round shape looks like CD. The main color of the logo is green, because green means live and environmentally friendly. Besides, the color and shape in the logo is also seems like natural plant.
