Principal’s Report Amanda Williams Welcome BBQ and Meet the Teacher- Tonight 3.45-6pm This afternoon we are looking forward to meeting many of our families at the Meet the Teacher and Welcome BBQ. A huge acknowledgement of the Hub for organising the BBQ. Teacher and students have spent the beginning of term setting up their Learning to Learn environments and agreements to support strong learning. The students and teachers have worked collaboratively to create their environments and learning cultures and should be proud of the positive and focused learning that is now in place. Teachers are also on a learning trajectory with a FPS Coaching program started by Learning Specialist Chris Mizis and Assistant Principal Kevin Chigwidden plus a Mentoring program to support new and existing staff members to be coordinated by Trist Jones our year 1 teacher and University of Melbourne Teaching Fellow. Classroom helpers Monday morning I had the pleasure of outlining for some parents and volunteers the FPS Classroom Helpers and Volunteers program. We encourage parents, carers and grandparents to help in the classroom and this session outlined support strategies, role clarity and protocols. An Induction booklet has also been developed containing the material covered in the presentation for helpers and volunteers that join classroom helpers during the year. This allows a consistency of the delivery of the processes and protocols to guide our helpers and volunteers. If you are interested in being a classroom helper please let your child’s teacher know. School Council School Council will be meeting next Monday 26 th 7-9pm in the Staff Room. Any parents intending to visit, please register with our administrative staff prior to the meeting. Welcome to the 2018 nominees for School Council. Amelia Moore, Ayan Mohamed, Bruce Moonie and Sophia Karanatsios. Thank you to these parents for nominating. The DET nominees are Kevin Chigwidden with a DET vacancy existing. The 2018 School Council will consist of Amelia Moore, Ayan Mohamed, Bruce Moonie, Sophia Karanatsios. Peter Hormann, Kathy Bocquet, Bart Sbeghan, Sarah Strapps, Amanda Williams, Kevin Chigwidden and Agata Puglia. 2018 Student Representative Council The School Representative Council elections are currently being held as part of Flemington Primary School’s commitment to Student Voice with some important and exciting changes to be made this year. Previously there was a separation between Student Leaders and the SRC. Leaders were responsible for specific tasks such as running Assemblies delivering Sports Reports, whereas the SRC raised student issues at meetings and addressed them with the support of a teacher. This year the teachers will be taking a step backwards and in their place the Student Leaders will assist the SRC in exploring their ideas and support them with the delivery of their responsibilities. This will provide the SRC and Student Leaders with experience in authentic leadership. A second important change is the removal of the requirement to elect one male and one female student. Each class will continue to have two representatives but their selection will not be based on their gender. These initiatives are part of an ongoing commitment to help build student connection to school and community. We are very excited to see how our students respond to their new opportunities. This year we are fortunate to have a team of two teachers to facilitate the Student Representative Council- Erica Pearson and Sucharita Nadiger. Happy Learning!
