Kerygma*

When Matthew, Morgan, and Katherine were very young, we used to go on adventures. Adventures involved riding bikes to unexplored regions blocks away from our home. Adventures were full of excitement. All it took was the question, “Want to go on an adventure?” I loved adventures because I was with my kids. I loved adventures because I watched them grow to be confident on bicycles. I loved adventures because they created and developed a sense of cu-riosity. I loved adventures because adventures taught Matthew, Morgan, and Katherine that the world was simultaneous a wondrous and dangerous place. I loved adventures because they taught my children how to find their way around. (That really never worked for Mat-thew, but Morgan and Katherine really mastered that skill.) I loved adventures because they learned that I was always there for them. Now let me be perfectly honest with you. I was also apprehensive because they exposed my chil-dren to the perils of the world. The roadways were like ocean surf filled with sharks. I was ever watching for cars coming from all sorts of directions. I learned to live with competing feelings of excitement and apprehension. We have been talking about going on an adventure for some time now. It began with planning a major renovation for our present facility and evolved into a conversation about relocating our par-ish in order to better fulfill our mission. While there was absolutely no opposition to the idea of relocating, I am certain that many of us have felt the tension between excitement and apprehen-sion. Excitement helps us to be creative and hopeful. Apprehension helps us to be careful as long as we do not allow it to gain control over us when it passes into fear. There is no reason to be fearful, not because we won’t face any challenges, but because God is with us. Gail Warne, our Senior Warden, signed the sale agreement with UCO on Friday, June 24 and we will soon be “on the clock”. We are doing something very few Episcopal congregations get to do. We are moving and it will be an adventure. God is calling us to do something extraordinary. The Vestry has set up two Pre-design Meetings in which members of the parish are invited to participate. The first is scheduled for Wednesday, August 10 at 7 p.m. The second is scheduled for Wednesday, August 17 at 1 p.m. There will be other meetings, but these first two are very important because they will provide our architect with a preliminary framework within which he will imagine what our new facilities could look like. _____________________________________ * Kerygma is a Greek word that means “essential proclamation.”

Cursillo The National Committee of the Episcopal Cursillo Ministry has selected the Oklahoma Episcopal Cursillo Ministry to host its annual convention in October, 2017. We expect Cursillistas from every corner of the country and some international locations to attend this event hosted at St. Paul's Cathedral. Attending a Cursillo weekend is a powerful event designed to rejuvenate a tired Christian soul or awaken a sleeping one by stimulating spiritual for-mation. Each weekend begins on a Friday afternoon, and concludes on the following Sunday afternoon. The following link will take you to a site which has both a video and an application. Many of our parishioners can attest to how Cursillo, and the process that the weekend teaches, can change your rela-tionship both with yourself and with Christ. If you have questions, please contact Davis Berryman at (405) 410-6405.

The blankets that we provided this year are fleece blankets they carry great meaning, for each knot in the fringe symbolizes a prayer. One-by one the knots are tied by individual parishioners at the end of each service. One-by one the blanket recipient is lifted-up to God by a caring congregation. A blanket is freely and reverently offered to anyone in St. Mary’s Episcopal Church Community. A donation of $10 is accepted for those outside the community.

Derek and I wanted to thank you for the “Thunder Throw.” His face lit up

when it arrived and he’s used it every day. He’s doing so well now and has recovered completely from the surgery. Now we will

just be following up with the doctors.

Love,

Derek and Darla

Dear St. Mary’s Friends,

Thank you so much for the prayers at-tached to the prayer blanket you sent by my

mom and dad. I feel surrounded by your love and God’s love. I will be comforted

and empowered by your caring for me as I go through this fight with breast cancer! Josh and I say thank you, thank you! My little doggy companion, Papi, thanks you

especially!

Dear St. Mary’s Friends,

Thank you for the lovely prayer blanket. The blanket kept me warm dur-

ing my recovery and the prayers that came with it lifted my spirits. Each knot represents one of my church family who said a prayer for me. I am so thankful for your prayers and loving con-

cern.

A very dear friend of mine once said, “There are no strangers . . . they are just friends that I haven’t met yet.” You may have noticed that there is a new podi-um near where the ushers hand out bulletins, and there are new Welcome cards in the pews. We also have some volunteers who have agreed to be very deliber-ate about greeting new people to St. Mary’s. The goal of this to simply make new people feel at home, like a friend, and hopefully, get them plugged in so that they stay with us and get involved. I invite you, therefore, to do what you can to welcome friends, both those you’ve known for a while, and those you haven’t met yet. Respectfully, Fr. Scott P.S. If you’d like to be a greeter, talk to me or Carol Smith, and we will get you signed up to help in that ministry.

Everyone greet one another in the name of the Lord……...….
