So valuable to heaven is the dignity of the human soul that every member of the human race has a guardian angel from the moment the person begins to be.

Pastor’s Desk Dear Parishioners,

Please see the revised schedule of Sunday Masses, to begin next Sunday, elsewhere in today’s bulle n. This brings us a li le closer to our usual schedule, s ll allowing me for sani zing between Masses. Of course, the usual protocols of distancing, masks, and reserving a seat online will con nue.

We will also resume our monthly Eucharis c Holy Hour this Friday at 8pm, followed by two hours of adora on in the Main Church. This is in addi on to our weekly adora on periods Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday a ernoons.

We will offer our annual Blessing of Animals, unless it rains, this Saturday, October 3rd at 12 noon in the parking lot behind the rectory. See the details elsewhere in the bulle n.

Please read the Insert this week and next of a two part series on the “Challenges of Forming Consciences for Faithful Ci zenship.” The Church does not endorse par cular candidates for office, but offers a structure to help us make responsible choices as we prepare to cast our elec on ballots.

Msgr. Richard Arnhols, Pastor

Reflection on Today’s Scripture Readings

In The Secret Life of Bees, August, an older black woman, is talking about “the problem with people” to Lily, a younger white woman who has run away from an abusive father. Lily has said that people don’t really know what matters. But August says the deeper problem is that people do know what matters, but don’t choose it. God tells Ezekiel that virtue’s proof is in choosing to do the right thing. What you choose to do matters. So be careful not to go off the right path at the end of your days. On the other hand, you might be off the right path for years, but end up hopping back on at the very end, and you will have life. It doesn’t sound very fair; nevertheless, it’s where you are when the end comes that counts. And you don’t know when the end will come. Jesus confronts the religious leaders with a parable. A father asks his two sons to do some work in the vineyard. One talks a good game but never makes it into the field; the other refuses outright, but then goes and does what his father asked. In telling this parable, Jesus compares these leaders unfavorably to the tax collectors and prostitutes. The elders must have been shocked. “Have in you that same attitude that is also in Christ Jesus,” writes Paul to his beloved Philippians. The attitude he urged on them was giving oneself for the sake of others—even unto death. In this way, we not only speak but also do “Yes.” Choose to live Christ. — James A. Wallace, C.Ss.R.

Stewardship: Sharing our Time, Talent, and Treasure!

“Do nothing out of selfishness; rather, humbly regard others as more important than yourselves…” Philippians 2:3

Pride and ego are hard things to control. We see how others act or dress and think we are superior to them. We idolize our own self-image. But, if we truly believe everything is a gi from God, we recognize all the people that God has put in our lives as gi s! We are grateful for how they enrich our lives. Pray every day for the people in your life: your family, your friends and those who make you angry.

—James A. Wallace, C.Ss.R.

Administradores: ¡Compartiendo Nuestro Tiempo, Talento, Y Tesoro!

A Letter From Padre Pio 'Our Soul is the Temple of God'

As soon as you are before God in the Blessed Sacrament, devoutly genuflect. Once you have found your place, kneel down and surrender the tribute of your presence and devotion to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Confide all your needs to Him along with those of others. Speak to Him with filial abandonment, give free rein to your heart, and give Him complete freedom to work in you as He thinks best. When assisting at Holy Mass and the sacred functions, be very composed when standing up, kneeling down, and sitting, and carry out every religious act with the greatest devotion. Be modest in your glances; don’t turn your head here and there to see who enters and leaves. Don’t laugh, out of reverence for this holy place and also out of respect for those who are near you. Try not to speak to anybody, except when charity or strict necessity requests this. If you pray with others, say the words of the prayer distinctly, observe the pauses well, and never hurry.

Blessing of Animals We’re going to do blessing of the animals on Saturday, October 3rd at 12 noon in the parking lot behind the rectory. People must wear a mask. Children and pets must be accompanied by adults.

Social distancing must be observed.

Event cancelled if it rains.

How Well Do You Know Your Faith?

This section of our bulletin will

provide you with some vitamins of faith that we all need a dose of each

& every day.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church

A catechism should faithfully and systematically present the teaching of Sacred Scripture, the living Tradition in

the Church and the authentic Magisterium, as well as the spiritual heritage of the Fathers, Doctors and saints of

the Church, to allow for a better knowledge of the Christian mystery and for enlivening the faith of the

People of God. It should take into account the doctrinal statements which down the centuries the Holy Spirit has intimated to his Church. It should also help to illumine with the light of faith the new situations and problems

which had not yet emerged in the past.
