Principal’s
Message
This week is Year 11 exams all week, Year 12
mock interviews; transition afternoon tea, and
information session Tuesday, Year 12 farewell social
Thursday and Secondary Street stall Friday. Another
very busy week at this outstanding public school.
I encourage people to view our Facebook page and
discover the enormous range of activities students
offered at this public school. These range from
curriculum extension activities through to vocationally
based activities. It disappoints me that there is still an
elitism in Australia and in Trundle where people believe
private or religious based schools provide more for
students. Public Education provides the foundation for
social cohesion in this country because it caters for
every person. It is not dependent on a belief system or
socio economic status. Students do not pay for a
position at this school, they are entitled to it through
the social capital contained in this great country. This
school has students who travel from Parkes everyday
to attend. That is an enormous vote of confidence.
Changing schools should not be seen as a negative. If
students wish to move school pressure should not be
applied but reflection on how the school could
improve. This is certainly my attitude when parents
decide to leave Trundle Central School.
Many students and most adults are very tired and a
little cranky at the end of term. Please encourage your
child to maintain a regular bed time as it is important
that they continue to be ready to learn right up to the
end of term. The weather is warming up so I encourage
students to start wearing hats and putting on
sunscreen. This may be some startling news but I am
going to say it anyway. Parents are the boss; it is your
house so you set the bedtime for your children not the
television. No study I have read about child
development states that children will die if they do not
see the end of the movie on Netflix or finish the game.
An unfortunate change I have seen in children is the
totally empowered child who makes their own rules.
The obvious problem with this is they do not have the
cognitive or emotional ability to make good choices.
This is why you are the parent not your children.
The purpose of the mock interviews this week, is to
better prepare our students for the merit selection
process. We all know our first job is the hardest to get
and I believe it is important that our students have the
skills to sell themselves to a panel to achieve the best
possible outcomes. I wish this service was available
when I was at school because in a recent interview in
Canberra I was beaten to the job by a person named
Scott Morrison, I think I know him from somewhere.
However, I hear the job comes up every 12 months
anyway.
Last week we received a $2000 donation from Mrs
Leanne Porter and Mrs Sam Lydford. Ryan Lydford and
Clay Hartin shaving his head and Joel Lyndford shaving
his beard at the Boomers presentation night raised this
money. This donation will go directly into the Trundle
community. The school now has over $35,000 to be
spent in selected Trundle businesses that provide
essentials to the farming community. Not all businesses
could be included because administratively it is too
difficult and Sydney people donated for essentials for
farming families not what are essentially luxuries.
However, if we take a small part of the financial burden
this drought creates away from farmers there may be
money to spend on luxuries. Every farming family on
our enrolment list should receive a letter outlining
$1800 of available credit in local businesses. Please
return your preference list and money allocation so we
can issue you with the voucher and start to put this
money into the Trundle economy. I encourage our
farmers to accept and spend this money because this is
not charity it is recognition that our farmers produce
the best food and fibre in the world.
Last week we also received a donation from the staff at
Hanson Concrete. This was food and $1650 dollars in
cash. Hanson concrete has been a long-term friend of
the school donating truck rims for our school to work
program and looking after us when we require
products from Parkes. Again, this money will go
directly to Trundle businesses. I thank Hanson
Concrete Parkes for being a long time supporter of this
school. You could almost say our relationship is set in
concrete, a solid foundation for the future with a rock
hard guarantee.
Last week I was in touch with an organisation who has
offered to pay the freight costs of carting water to
farms. They will use where possible local contractors
so again the money will stay in our town. If you are a
family on tank water and you are contacted for a water
delivery please except the generosity of our friends in
Sydney and accept the load of water. This is almost
guaranteed to make it rain because it always rains when
water tanks are full.
Smiles on Site Dental van will be visiting next week if
we achieve the desired numbers. I thank the 13 parents
from Tullamore Central that have agreed for their
children to access this outstanding service.

Page 3 Term 3 Week 9
I will contact parents through Facebook if we do not
achieve the desired numbers. It could go either way at
this stage.
Ajax, our Pets as Therapy dog has settled in well and I
have decided that we will keep him at the school. His
main role is pastoral care and he has proven himself an
asset to the school. Since we have had Ajax I have had
three other schools contact me interested in
implementing a similar program at their school. This
school is always willing to try new programs and
strategies and in many ways, another school
implementing a similar strategy to us is a compliment.
Head lice continues to be a problem across the
community. This form of lice does not discriminate they
like male or female heads and they do not prefer any
religion to another. I am sure even students at catholic
schools have head lice on occasions. Therefore if you
find lice in your child’s hair try to resist the temptation
to blame other children or the school because they live
in the community not only one household or school.
Indeed, I have tried many times to farm head lice but
building the fences was too tricky and trying to train a
dog to yard them is almost impossible. Treating the
problem immediately is the only solution because if you
do not you are letting your child down it can be
embarrassing and effect the whole school community
because your child is sharing the itchy bounty contained
in their hair. There are many expensive and cheap
products on the market and they pretty much work the
same. Yes you can start to scratch now.
In recent times,
Trundle has been
rocked by a violent
incident in Long
Street. Many people
have expressed that
our town could be
portrayed in a
negative light
because of this
incident. There could be some truth in this argument
short term. However, the news cycle lasts about a week
so we should not be worried. In addition, people
commit violent acts, not communities so we can not
bear a collective responsibility for this very rare
incident. Of one thing I am certain, is children should
not be exposed to the details of this incident. They
should not be subjected to adult issues because their
emotions do not place this incident in the context of
this beautiful safe community we are privileged to live in.
It is exciting news that Harry and Megan intend to visit
Dubbo. Unfortunately, Trundle does not have a big
enough airport so they will be forced to drive to the
school but they should be able to make it in time for a
sausage sandwich and a nice cup of tea around 2 o’clock.
I intend to ask the men’s shed to cater and I am sure the
minister could whip up a lamington for dessert.

Ajax Wooof Wooof awards: Southo has adopted me so I now have a permanent
home at Trundle Central School. Before I was at
Abbotsleigh Anglican College in Sydney so I have
not noticed any difference. A big Ajax woof to all
the students and staff who have made me welcome.
Now to negotiate a pay rise. Dog biscuits and pats
are good but a young dog needs to build a future.
Come on Southo, put your hands further to those
long pockets.
Four big woofs go out to Mia Martin. Thanks for
the long walks in the morning.
Four big woofs go out to Kinder, you guys rock.
They are so quiet and work so hard I even had a
little dog nap on Tuesday in their class. Your
teacher has a problem with the word ‘one’. So
many people won something during Maths. It is
confusing being a dog.
Ajax is barking mad about parents giving teenagers
alcohol. Even dogs know that teenagers do not
have the decision making capacity to be able to
consume alcohol safely. You are the adults set the
example. Ten loud barks !!!! Some teenagers even
like cats more than dogs so they cannot think
clearly. I am howling mad about teenage parties.
To the High School student who is worried about
why other students are bigger and stronger than
you. I watch you every day and you are smarter
and better looking. Every person has different
qualities and abilities. Do not compare yourself to
others but try to be better each day.

Secondary
Firstly a massive congratulations to our students
who attended graduation on Thursday night in
Dubbo. The students in Year 12, 2018 are
photographed on the front page with a list of their
achievements. Not only am I impressed with what
they have achieved, but I am incredibly proud of
the young people they have become. The school
will miss these students in 2019.
This week our Year 11 students will be
commencing their examinations for the end of Year
11. The students have their timetable and it is also
included in this newsletter. Best of luck to all of
our students in the exams.
Tomorrow we have scripture in period 5. Our
Year 12’s will have their mock interviews to
prepare them for future job interviews. Thanks to
Mrs Morgan for her organisation of this activity.
This Tuesday we will be having our Transition
Information Afternoon for students and parents of
Year 7 for 2019. This will start with an afternoon
tea, meet and greet our secondary teachers,
followed by an introductory meeting, a tour of our
Secondary learning areas, handing out the
information packs and answering any questions.
Transition, where the Year 6 students take part in
Secondary lessons, will actually take place 9.00-
11.00 Thursdays in Term 4, Weeks 2 to 8 (25th of
October to the 6th of December).
On Wednesday our secondary girls will be
continuing with their social program with
Centacare. This will take place before recess.
Thursday, we begin the sad process of farewelling
Year 12, 2018 with a social. This will be held at the
Golf Club from 7.00-10.00pm. Students need to
purchase their tickets from Miss Rowlands before
the social. This will be followed by a Farewell
Assembly next Friday and a dinner in Term 4.
Thanks to Miss Rowlands for her organisation.
Friday Miss Rowlands will be harvesting the fruit of
her and the School Service Elective students’ hard
work at a street stall. Please drop by and support
the students as all funds raised go directly back into
our students’ welfare system. Thanks to all
students and teachers involved in this.
As always if there are any questions in regards to
Secondary matters please contact me at school.
Have a great week
Gerry Capell

2018 Country Women’s Association Education Grants Application forms for the 2018 Country Women’s
Association Education Grants for years 6-12 are
available at the school office. It is well worth
applying for these grants as last year all those who
did so were successful. Parents are urged to give
as much information as possible about their child’s
educational and/or sporting needs and interests, as
this can positively affect the amount granted. If
there is insufficient space on the form, please add
another page. The forms should be returned to
the school by Wednesday, 19th September.

ARTEXPRESS Orange Gallery Excursion Last Thursday, Lionel (year 8)
and our Year 11 and Elective
Visual Arts students travelled
to the Orange Regional Art
Gallery to view a selection of
outstanding student artworks
developed for the art making component of the HSC
examination in Visual Arts in
NSW.
They had the opportunity to
see a broad range of
approaches and expressive
forms, including ceramics, drawing, graphic design, painting, photo media, printmaking, sculpture,
textiles and time-based forms. Many of the artworks on display are from students from our region.
The students gained a better understanding of developing a ‘Body of work’ and were also involved in a
workshop on creating cyanotypes.
Many thanks to the Gallery, for providing this wonderful opportunity free of charge and to the
students, who were a pleasure to take away.
National Merino Wether Challenge Students from the Wether Interest
Elective group travelled to Dubbo to
compete in the National Merino Wether
Challenge which was held on 28th & 29th
August. The students were up at 6.30am
each morning feeding and watering the
sheep and cleaning their stalls. The sheep
were haltered and presented to judges
before and after shearing. Micron and
wool weights were assessed and weighed,
body weight and scanning were carried
out as well as fat scoring.
The two days were very long and tiring,
however a lot of practical experience was
gained, industry practices and standards
observed, and new friends were made.
The students were a pleasure to take
away and looked and behaved in a mature
manner. Well done Jaxson, Dylan, Skye
and Codie.

Meeting Morris Last Wednesday, ten secondary students had the opportunity to meet renowned children’s author,
Morris Gleitzman at the Parkes Library.
Morris was able to solve one of the perennial problems faced by many writers young and old – how do
I begin writing? He read the first paragraph from a few of his novels and it became clear to everyone
that you just begin with a character and a problem. Morris then explained that the rest of the storyline
should just follow. He went on to say that he is never bored due to his lively imagination and
emphasised the mind’s magical qualities, with its ability to take you anywhere. Morris broadly discussed
some of his titles such as Boy Overboard, Once and Now and explained the importance of presenting how
children cope with and overcome enormous difficulties they may have to face such as the horrors of
war and its inevitable consequences of loss. He did stress that humour is also an important aspect of
the human condition and stated that he likes to present life as balance between both.
Morris’ favourite word is BUM!
And how do you pronounce his name? It’s Gleit as in rhyming with light, white and bite which, he states,
makes him sound like a dairy product rather than a writer!!
Raymi makes a new friend.
