Page 3 Tupper Lake Free Press Wednesday, January 7, 2015 obituaries John R. Jermano, 77, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 19 at Albany Medical Center after a long illness. He was a resident of Niskayuna, NY. John was born on June 19, 1937 in Ogdensburg, NY, the son of the late city engineer Ross R. and Millie (Evans) Jermano. He is a 1955 graduate of Ogdensburg Free Academy and a 1959 graduate of the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., where he earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. As a licensed professional engineer and licensed land surveyor, he was NYS DOT resident engineer in Wayne County, NY; and then County Engineer of Onondaga East Residency; and regional highway maintenance engineer of Region 8. Prior to retiring from the State of New York as Director of Canals and the NYS Canal Corporation in 1995, he received the AASHTO President’s Medal Award in 1992 and the NYS Canal Conference Spirit of the Canal Award in 1996. Following retirement from the state, he was director of quality management and engineering with Leberge Engineering and Consulting Group, LTD from 1996 to 2002. He was a member of the Albany Society of Engineers, American Council of Engineering Companies of NY, NYS Association of Transportation Engineers, and served on the board of directors of the State Council on Waterways and Canal Society of NYS. He was bridge member of the Lake George Power Squadron and the Mohawks-Hudson Council of Yacht Clubs. He was the rear commodore and historian of the Schenectady Yacht Club, where he was the proud owner of the Caprice pilgrim trawler. The Caprice was a wonderful tug with a wonderful skipper. He was the former Director of NYS Canals who was loved and admired by canallers far and wide. John oversaw the early days of the re-birth of New York’s canals, and continued to be a friend and advocate of the state’s waterways. John is a former winner of the Waterford Tugboat Roundup Canal Lifetime Achievement Award, along with many other significant awards and recognitions. John R. Jermano, 77 He was an avid fan of the Syracuse University Orange basketball team, an avid music lover and a terrific piano player, but most importantly, he made the best meatballs and sauce from the old Jermano family recipe. John was loved by his wife, family, and various pets; known by all to be a caring, compassionate man and a great husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to all. John was a long time communicant of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church and most recently attended St. Kateri Tekawitha Catholic Parish in Schenectady, NY with his daughter Sarah. He was predeceased by his parents, his beloved wife and high school sweetheart Martha Jean (Guerin) Jermano, his siblings Ross F. Jermano, Rosemary A. Neal, and a sister-in-law, Janet L. Jermano. Survivors include his loving children, Catherine (Bill) Olohan of Iselin, NJ, John A. Jermano of San Francisco, CA and Sarah Jermano of Niskayuna, NY; adoring grandchildren, Caitlin Olohan, Michael Olohan, and Christopher Owen; siblings Daniel V. Jermano of Bonita Springs, FL, and F. Thomas (Idona) Jermano or Tupper Lake; two sister-in-laws, Lea Jermano of Spring, TX and Mary Margaret (Guerin) Ein of North Syracuse, NY. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and wonderful friends. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, December 23 at 9 a.m. At St. Kateri Tekawitha Parish, Rosa Road campus, with the Reverend Robert Longabucco officiating. Interment was in the Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna. Arrangements were provided by the Jones Funeral Home, Schenectady. Jonathan Dale Huntley, 46, of Edgewater, Florida, died Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at his residence. Born in Toms River, New Jersey, to Lawrence and Darleen LaPelle Huntley, Jonathan moved to Edgewater 8 years ago from Utica, New York. A carpenter and cabinet maker, Jonathan had a love for music; he enjoyed boating, dominoes, cabinetry work and loved animals. Survivors include a son, Tyler Huntley of Colton, New York; a daughter, Ashley Smith and her husband Javar of San Diego, California; “adopted” son Nick Lyons of Utica; his mother, Darleen Gauvin and her husband Nelson of Edgewater; two brothers, Jonathan Huntley, 46 Keith Huntley and his fiancée Laura of Clifton Park, and Jerry Huntley and his wife Linda of McKinney, Texas; three sisters, Cheryl Doherty and her husband Kevin of Cadyville, Lynn Siebert and her husband Brett of Niskayuna, and Darcie Reed of Rensselaer; 12 nieces and nephews; nine great-nieces and great-nephews, and several special aunts and uncles. Services will be held in New York at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in Mr. Huntley’s name to ASPCA, P.O. Box 96929, Washington, DC 20090-6929. Born August 7, 1927 in Tupper Lake, he was the son of James Edward and Rene (Coutu) Timmons. Bobby graduated from Holy Ghost Academy in 1945 and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was employed by the Altamont Milk Company for many years. In 1967 he went on to work at Sunmount DDSO, retiring in 1983 after 19 years of service. Bobby enjoyed playing golf with his many friends, in particular Bucky Kentile and his late cousin Daniel Savage. Bobby led a quiet, peaceful life and had a tremendous amount of faith. He enjoyed family gatherings and loved watching golf and baseball on TV as it became more Robert Timmons, 87 difficult for him to get out and attend such events.
