After a wonderful pastoral year your three parish priests are looking forward to some down time for a little R&R. Sumer time is usually a time to catch up with reading, traveling, visiting friends and spending more time with family. It is our hope that each of you will have a similar opportunity to do something relaxing and enjoyable, whether away or nearby.
We are delighted to have Fr. Melchizedek with us during July and August to allow us vacation time. We look forward to a new pastoral year, which will begin soon after Labor Day. In the meantime, “Drive safely, school’s out!
THE USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA IN THE CHURCH TODAY! Bishop Barres, from the moment that he assumed his leadership as the Bishop of Rockville Centre, has called for “Dramatic Missionary Growth” throughout our Diocese. As a member you will have access to entertaining movies, inspiring audio talks, informative Bible studies, and much more. Also, once you have signed up, you can download the free iOS or Android app to put FORMED on your smart phone or tablet. To sign up for FREE, just visit this page: https://stjamesrcchurch.formed.org. You will then be asked to register by filling out your name and email address and creating a password. It’s easy! During his Pontificate, Pope St. John Paul II wrote it was now time for the Church to place all of her resources at the work of the New Evangelization. Pope Benedict wrote that the Church must propose the contents of her beliefs in a manner, which is both understandable and acceptable to the people of our time. Our present Holy Father, Pope Francis in his Apostolic Exhortation, “The Joy of the Gospel,” offers us the following invitation. “I invite all Christians, everywhere, at this very moment, to a renewed personal encounter with Jesus Christ, or at least an openness to letting him encounter them; I ask all of you to do this unfailingly each day.” One of the best tools for this is FORMED. I invite you to register with FORMED. Browse its contents (movies, books, talks, etc.) and watch and read items of special interest to you. After Labor Day our parish staff will be offering a number of opportunities to grow in our faith together by using this extraordinary service. I hope that you will join me, and our parish staff, as we grow together in our faith and in our ability to give witness to Jesus.

With this famous line in the Declaration of Independence,
which is so often quoted to show that we have the Right to…
(add your topic here), have we stopped to really considered
the words?
We, as people of this country believe that, created by God,
people, all people, are equal.
God gave us unalienable Rights, do you know what that
means? Unalienable Rights are more important than let’s say
the right to drive, they are the defining quality of what it
means to be a person. God gives us the right to survive, the
right to breathe, the right to live! God gives us the right to
justice, to be safe in our homes and on our streets, to be
treated fairly. God gives us the right to be happy, not in
material things or wealthy, which are great, but truly happy
in what we do and how we live.
When we look at these lines and the meaning behind them to
we stop to consider…Do we really treat our neighbor as our
equal? Do we acknowledge that everyone is our neighbor? Do
we cherish life? Do we treat others justly? Am I happy?

St. James Summer Raffle Raffle ticket books have been mailed out for this year’s 50/50 Summer Raffle!
Each ticket is $25.00, or you can but the entire four ticket book for $75.00….
You receive four for the price of three if you buy the entire book. The winner receives 50% of whatever is collected up to a maximum grand prize
of $10,000!!
The drawing for our Summer Raffle will take place on Wednesday, July 25, 2018,
on the feast of St. James, our Patron Saint. The drawing will be held at 11:00am
in the Parish Center.
Additional ticket books can be purchased in the Parish Center during normal
business hours until Monday, July 23, 2018.

In today’s Gospel we see
how in faith, Jarius asked
Jesus to heal his daughter
and how Jesus then
answered his prayer. In
prayer we also come to know that we are loved
by God, and in that trust we ask for healing for
ourselves, our loved ones and all those who are
suffering.
Through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent
de Paul brought the love and healing of Jesus
to our suffering neighbors.
Please note that the Charismatic Prayer Group will break for the summer months of July and August.
We will return on September 10, 2018 in the Parish Center in room 114 from 7:30pm until 9:00pm.
Our group praises the Lord, prays Scripture and has a time of quiet reflection. We close the meeting with
Intercessory prayer. Won’t you consider joining us?
