CALENDAR TERM 2
PRINCIPAL’S NEWS
Welcome back to all students, staff and families. I trust that everyone is
well rested and ready for a busy term of learning.
STAFFING
Mrs Sam Kheirabi will be leaving us at the end of Term 2 to have a baby.
Congratulations to Mrs Kheirabi and her partner. Class KK will be taught
by Mrs Sara Kelly when Mrs Kheirabi leaves. The children will know her
as she has been a casual teacher with us this year.
Ms Mariko Shiozawa continues to be responsible for the English as an
Additional Language or Dialect (EALD) program on Mondays and
Tuesdays.
Mrs Sophie Berman will continue to teach 3CB on Fridays in Term 2, as
Mrs Amy Smart will be on leave until Term 3.
I have been asked to stay as Relieving Principal until at least the end of
Term 2. Later in the year, the Principal’s position will be advertised and
filled permanently. I will be applying for the permanent position as it
would be a privilege to continue at this wonderful school.
SCHOOL PLAN 2018-2020 & ANNUAL SCHOOL REPORT 2017
These documents have been uploaded to our school website at:
http://www.pagewood-p.schools.nsw.edu.au/our-school/annual-school-
report . The Annual School Report details a successful school year in
2017. The School Plan 2018-2020 outlines the vision and strategic
directions for Pagewood Public School over the next three years.
STATEMENT OF ACCOUNT
Thank you to those families who have settled their Statement of
Account online during the holidays. There are a small number of
families whose account is now overdue. Parents are encouraged to pay
all fees if possible before the new Term 2 Statement of Account is sent
home next week.

UNIFORM SHOP
The next opening is Thursday 3 May at 9.15am then fortnightly. In the meantime, uniform orders can be placed at the office any
day with correct money (cash or cheque payable to Pagewood Public School P&C). Please DO NOT give uniform orders to
teachers. All students need to be in full winter uniform for the school photos in week 4.
SCHOOL PHOTOS – THURSDAY 24 MAY
On Tuesday, please look in your child’s bag for the School Photographer envelope. All individual, sibling and class photos are to
be paid for online directly to ‘The School Photographer’ prior to Thursday 24 May. The instructions for paying online are on the
photograph envelope. Please do not send money to school.
Group photos, other than class, individual and sibling photos will be ordered after the photo day. Group photos will be
displayed in the school foyer so that you can view them before you order them. It is important that full winter uniform is worn
for the school photos. It is also important that all children and their families have photographs. Please communicate with me in
confidence if you require assistance to meet the costs of photographs.
ICAS WRITING TEST – NO PAYMENT REQUIRED
As part of the Pagewood Public School Plan 2018-2020, we have a strategic direction for Learning and Wellbeing. An important
goal is to increase our overall literacy results, with a particular emphasis on writing. This year, the school would like to offer all
students in Years 3-6 the opportunity to participate in the ICAS writing test at no cost to parents. This would allow the school,
parents and children to receive accurate assessment information on progress in regards to writing skills. Participation in the
writing test is optional. Please find further information on page 7 of this newsletter or go to the school website at
http://www.pagewood-p.schools.nsw.edu.au/notes
PARKING
The school is aware of the difficulty in parking for parents. I am currently liaising with Council and doing everything I can to find a
solution to the problem, which will take time. In the meantime, I would suggest that parents allow extra time in the morning to
find a park and please avoid illegal parking to drop off your children. There are more parking options on Page Street, Holloway
Street and Banksia Street, where you can use the crossing to safely cross the road.
ASSEMBLY – WEDNESDAY 2 May at 2.30pm
ASSEMBLY PRESENTERS: School Leaders
WINTER PRIMARY SCHOOLS SPORTS ASSOCIATION Schools (PSSA) TRIALS
The winter PSSA competition for Netball and Soccer will take place in Terms 2 and 3 for students in Years 3-6. This is an
interschool competition for Netball teams (girls) and Soccer teams (girls and boys). These teams play other local school teams in
a weekly competition on Friday afternoons during school time. If your child is selected, the cost per term is $40 to cover the
cost of transport.
Trials for both Netball and Soccer will take place at school this Friday 4 May at 1.50pm. Children in Years 3-6 are to wear their
school sport uniform if they wish to try out. Boys and girls who are trying out for soccer may also bring shin pads and soccer
boots to change into. Please note, only soccer boots with rubber studs (not metal) are permitted.
Children who are away or injured for the trials will still be considered for the teams. It is important that your child informs Ms
Grisanti (Soccer), Mrs Hawkes (Netball junior) and Mrs Arthur (Netball senior) if they are unable to trial.
KINDY REMINDER
Could Kindy parents please pack spare underwear and clothes in their child’s bag in case of accidents.
PARENT VOLUNTEERS
If parents or grandparents wish to volunteer at school, they are required to complete two documents and hand these to the
school office. These documents are called Appendix 5 and Appendix 6 and can be found on our website at:
http://www.pagewood-p.schools.nsw.edu.au/notes .
These documents replace a Working With Children Check which is no longer required for parent volunteers in schools.

to train in the school holidays. The events will run in the following order: 12 years, 11 years, 10 years and 8/9 years. Sports
uniform and sport shoes (no spikes or bare feet) should be worn for the cross country events.

PAGEWOOD’S PROBLEM SOLVER
If your child would like to participate in this week’s Pagewood’s Problem Solver, please have your child write their answer on a
piece of paper with their name and class, and hand this to Mr Tan by Friday. All solutions are welcome and parents are allowed
to help. The important thing is to have a go!
Last week’s task was: Write the alphabet down the left-hand side of a piece of paper. Make a list of ENVIROMENTAL words for
each letter of the alphabet.
Well done to Cleaver, Vaughan, Tora and Chacha.
THIS WEEK’S TASK: A person leaves hospital and begins to walk home. On his way home his phone rings. Instead of answering
it, he punches the air and runs all the way home cheering. Why?
