Men’s Ministry Church-wide Outreach Visitation Thursdays 6:00 p.m. Come and make a church growth visit. Share Jesus with someone and invite them to church. From My Heart In March we welcomed Jason Ligon as our interim minister of music. Hearing how that all came about will strengthen your belief in the power of prayer. Already, Jason has endeared himself to many in our congregation. That happening speaks well to the fact of Jason’s heart and the embracing nature of Silver Springs Baptist Church. Also, the church accepted the Nominating Committee’s recommendation of persons to be on the minister of music search committee. This process was done with a spirit of prayer and unity. Please make the matter of the search a part of your regular prayer life. The March 12 workday accomplished much that needed to be done. People were laboring both inside and outside of the building. The gravel around the new shrubbery hopefully will be a welcomed help in controlling the grass. Thanks men and women who worked so hard that day. April will climax with five days, six services of revival. Jimmy Furr has preached in revival at Silver Springs before. We had a great meeting then and I am praying for another great meeting April 24-28. David Brandon served several years as the minister of music of Fairview Baptist Church. Plan now to be in every service. Invite folks to come with you. Above all, pray for a visitation from our Lord. Glad to be your pastor. SSBC People in the News

Note of Thanks

Teresa Botts was pictured in the paper working as the Lebanon Senior Citizens Center Assistant Director.

Baylee L. Milton was listed in the paper for being on the West Wilson Middle School 8th grade honor roll.

Walt Blevins was pictured in the paper for celebrating his 1st birthday. Family & friends celebrated with him by donating toys to the 15th Judicial District Child Advocacy Center.

When you see a SSBC person in the news please turn the article into the office. Principal Lists/Honor Roll students are difficult to gather for a variety of reasons. Thank you for your help.

We wanted to tell you how much we appreciated the outpouring of love as we move on to the next stage of our life. SSBC will hold a special and fond place in our hearts, and we will most definitely treasure the many wonderful times and friends we made over the past six years.

Thank you for the gifts, the words, and the prayers! We love you all! The Gregg Family

The flower & plant was beautiful. Thank you for caring during the death of Joe’s sister. Love & prayers, Joe & Pat Pharr

Pray For . . . Jason Ligon, Our Interim

Minister of Music Jason is employed at Ligon and Bobo Funeral Home, Lebanon as an Embalmer and Funeral Director. His wife, Amie, is a Customer Service Representative at Wilson Bank & Trust, Castle Heights Branch.

Jason and Amie are members at First Baptist, Lebanon. The church has ordained him as a deacon, and among other roles, he has been on their Minister of Music search committee. He and Amie are members of the church’s choir and praise team. Beyond church, Jason and Amie are members of The Bert Coble Singers, a community choir that sings to benefit the Bert Coble Scholarship at Cumberland as well as other meaningful causes. Jason also serves on the Wilson County Fair Board. For four years, Jason was the Minister of Music at LaGuardo Baptist Church.

Jason grew up attending Fairview Baptist Church, Lebanon where his father was a deacon and his mother continues to serve in the music ministry. Along with his mother, Jason received musical training under the tutorage of Dr. Bert Coble, Music Professor Emeritus at Cumberland.

Though he attended Fairview faithfully, it wasn’t until Jason worked in Lafayette and during a revival meeting at Amie’s home church, that Jason became a Christian. Jason is a graduate of the John Gupton College of Mortuary Science. Amie, a Macon County native, is employed by Wilson Bank and Trust, Castle Heights branch. In addition to the afore mentioned ministries, she leads a children’s choir at First Baptist.

Contact Jason at 615-758-7853, ext. 23 or 615-670-3898. You can write him at 9938 Lebanon Road, Mt. Juliet.

Music Notes “Sing them over again to me, wonderful words of life. Let me more of their beauty see, wonderful words of life; words of life and beauty, teach me faith and duty: beautiful words, wonderful words, wonderful words of life.”

Greetings, Salutations, Hello, and Howdy! As I sit here in the office throughout the week attempting to plan and compile musical selections for worship, I often have to stop and ponder the words. To some this may seem strange. To me however, “words,” the very language that unites us week after week in song and speech, is vitally important. How many times throughout the week do we speak before we think? (For me this occurs more often than it should.) If I were a Bible scholar, which I am not, I would be able to give you a better idea of just exactly how many times the use of the word “word(s)” is used throughout scripture. The usage is too numerous to adequately describe. Just a few examples we find are as follows: In Proverbs 15:23 the Bible tells us “To give an appropriate answer is a joy; how good is a word at the right time!” In the book of Isaiah 50:4 it says “The Sovereign Lord has given me a well-instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary.” Jesus speaking to the Pharisees in Matthew 12:36 “But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the Day of Judgment for every empty word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned”. Wow! Again in Matthew 24:35 “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.”

On and on these references are made; time and time again. Not only referring to “The Word” but OUR words; those sweet, devilish, rude, polite, nasty, complimentary, WORDS. Our words evoke emotions. They stir us to action. Depending on the context, these actions could be positive or negative. We all remember the childhood saying “Sticks and stones may break my bones…” Well, having been on the receiving end of some of those harsh words, I can assure you they do hurt. Perhaps I should get to the point. Our words have power. They carry consequences. They can lift people up, or they can tear people down. Let’s always be found lifting up those around us and using our words as an encouragement to those downtrodden.

The next time you are sitting in the pew (or in the choir loft) think about the words or the text of the songs that we sing. I promise, for as long as I serve you in the capacity of interim, I will be diligent to select songs of worship that are not only meaningful, but songs that contain truth and power. I will strive to think before I speak and also to study the impact of my words in the lives of others. In closing, I will leave you with the lyrics to a somewhat newer song entitled “Ancient Words”.

“…Holy words of our faith handed down to this age. Came to us through sacrifice, O heed the faithful words of Christ. Holy words, long preserved for our walk in this world. They resound with God’s own heart, O let the ancient words impart. Ancient words ever true, changing me and changing you, we have come with open hearts, O let the ancient words impart.”

Amie and I would like to thank each of you for allowing us the opportunity to worship and serve with you. There is a sweet spirit at Silver Springs Baptist Church and I know that God has great plans for the future. Everyone has been very kind and welcoming. Just a reminder that if you have interest in joining the choir, we rehearse on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 p.m. Feel free to bring a friend and unite with us as we sing praises to our God and King! Humbly Yours in Christ,

Silver Springers Trip to Sam Davis Home

Saturday, April 16 Cost $9.00 We will leave the church at 9:00 a.m. and arrive at the Sam Davis home at 10:00 a.m. Following the tour, we will stop for a meal in Smyrna.

Our sincere Christian sympathy is extended to Wayne Bobbitt in the death of his aunt and to Joe Pharr in the death of his sister.

The Sunday School department is collecting slightly used literature during the month of April. In the past we have donated to “Love Packages.” While we will continue to do that, we will also partner with Edwin L. Hodges Ministries. ELHM is a Christian literature ministry that collects donated Bibles, books, magazines, tapes, and tracts from American Christians and ships them to Bible schools, churches, missionaries, and ministries overseas. ELHM is a non-denominational, nonprofit, evangelical ministry. One of the greatest literature needs is reference books for the pastors and missionaries overseas. There is a box outside the SS room in case you have any items in your personal library you would like to donate. Bibles and hymnals are also in great demand.

This month the Library is

focusing on PRAYER. F.B. Meyer said "The greatest tragedy of life is not unanswered prayer, but unoffered prayer." Throughout the Bible, believers are called to pray. Prayer is probably the single most important thing we are called to do as Christians. For all the lip service Christians give prayer you'd think there is a whole lot of it going on. "I'll pray for you on that," "I'd covet your prayers about such and such," "I'll be praying for you sister!" But the reality of prayer is that it is more often talked about than practiced. So what is prayer? Prayer is connecting to the God of the whole universe. He holds all the power and all the answers. He wants us to seek him in prayer because He delights in connecting with us and He delights in answering us. “No one is a firmer believer in the power of prayer than the devil; not that he practices it, but he suffers from it." Guy H. King
