My Dear People,
Today’s theme on the Readings: HOSANNA! “Hosanna to the Son of David; blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord; hosanna in the highest” (Matthew 21:9). With these words the Church enters the holiest of weeks, commemorating the passion, death, and resurrection of Christ. When the people of Jerusalem cried out with their “hosannas,” they were using an ancient Hebrew shout of acclamation that meant “Pray, save us.” The king to whom they were shouting eventually would save them, but in a way that would be far from what they expected. Salvation would come from the wood of the cross as Jesus hung there to bring freedom from sin and life through death, opening the gates of heaven for all who put their faith and trust in him. The Library Corner
Happy Palm Sunday
The St Thomas More Parish Library staff would like to wish all our parishioners a Happy Palm Sunday. The Library will be closed until further notice.
Palm Sunday is a commemoration of Jesus'
triumphal entry into Jerusalem, coming in peace and riding on a donkey. He was met by crowds of followers and supporters who lined the road into the city and waved branches cut from palm trees. They laid palm fronds on the road and even laid
down cloaks for Jesus to ride over. This entry into Jerusalem fulfilled the Old Testament prophecies
promising that God's Messiah would enter the holy city riding on a donkey.
Lord Jesus, You traveled through towns and villages curing every disease and illness among the people. At your command, the sick were made well. Come to our aid now in this health crisis so that we may know your healing love. Heal those who are sick: may they regain their health and strength. Heal us from our fear, which prevents us from helping one another. Heal us from our pride, which makes us certain of our health and life apart from you. Bless health care professionals with strength and compassion as they selflessly respond to our needs. We make this prayer in your strong and holy name, You, who with the Father and Spirit, live and reign for ever and ever. Amen.

As Jesus fasted for 40 days in the desert, the Church traditionally fasts during Lent. A form of bodily prayer, fasting and abstinence in union with other Christians reminds us of our utter dependence on and love for God. A gesture of repentance and fasting is symbolic of a change of heart as we turn away from sin to live in fidelity to the Gospel. Lenten Regulations: Fasting: Ages 18-59 fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, limiting themselves to one full meal and two smaller meals each day, with no snacking between meals. Abstinence: Catholics age 14 and older abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and all the Fridays of Lent.
SAINTS AND SPECIAL OBSERVANCES
Sunday: Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord Monday: Monday of Holy Week Tuesday: Tuesday of Holy Week Wednesday: Wednesday of Holy Week; Passover begins Thursday: Holy Thursday; The Sacred Paschal Triduum Friday: Friday of the Passion of the Lord (Good Friday); Fast and Abstinence Saturday: The Easter Vigil in the Holy Night; Holy Saturday
CREATE A FAMILY PRAYER SPACE AT HOME
In the coming weeks, families will be spending more time together at home. One good use of this time would be to pray together on a regular basis. This prayer time together can be enhanced by creating a place in your home dedicated to prayer.
Making a place for prayer in our home can help us do what the Gospel tells us, to go into an “inner room” to pray (Matthew 6:6). Make your prayer place as quiet, uncluttered, and “desert-like” as possible. It can be the corner of a room or any unused space. Furnish your prayer place with a Bible, prayer books, cross, rosary, icons, and a candle. Encourage family members to use the prayer place for personal as well as family prayer. You can bless your place of prayer, saying:
Come, Holy God. Dwell in this place of prayer, and bless it with your peace and presence. Bless all who seek you here. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
