Communion Under Both Species During the flu season, we had suspended offering the Holy Eucharist under the species of both bread and wine. We will now resume the practice of offering Holy Com-munion under both species beginning with the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday evening - a most appropriate occasion on which to do so. There are few commands of the Lord that are more explicit than, “Take and Eat; Take and Drink.” “He who eats my body and drinks my blood abides in me and I in him.” Communion under both species is the fullest expression of the Lord’s true and real presence in the Sacrament of the Eucharist.
The Way of the Cross The 21st annual performance of 'The Way of the Cross' will soon be here (Good Friday afternoon, March 30, 2018 at 3:00PM). This production has proven to be a moving experience for each of the participants who act out very familiar roles (Pontius Pilot, a centurion, a sol-dier, Jesus, Mary, Veronica, Simon of Cyrene, Joseph of Aramathea, John the Disciple, and the weeping women of Jerusalem). Each year, hundreds of St. Eulalia Parishioners look for-ward to our living reminder of the 14 Stations of the Cross. This one hour presentation is made up of stirring narrations guiding the participants’ actions, along with thoughtful reflections and it is beautifully enhanced by glorious music performed by our Contemporary Music Group.
CRS Rice Bowl This Lent, CRS (Catholic Relief Services) Rice Bowl in-vites you, your family and community to journey along-side the Good Samaritan, to reflect on the question: Who is my neighbor? Pope Francis has invited Catholics to build bridges of understanding and hospitality with mi-grants and refugees through “Share the Journey” cam-paign.
Easter Baskets for the Homeless Come to Manion Hall on Wednesday, March 28th from noon to 5:00PM to help construct the baskets with the committee. Invitation to Study the Mass in Light of Scripture The Scripture Study Group will be starting a new segment all about the Mass, beginning Thursday, April 12, 2018, and continuing weekly for five weeks [Apr 12, 19, 26, May 3, 10]. They take place at the McGann Conference room and convene 7:00 – 8:30PM. As Catholics, the Mass is the center of our Faith. We celebrate it everyday. We know all the responses. We know all the gestures. But do we know what it all means? In A Biblical Walk Through the Mass, Dr. Edward Sri takes us on a unique tour of the liturgy. Based on the revised translation of the Mass, this book explores the biblical roots of the words and ges-tures we experience in the liturgy and explains their profound significance. Please join your fellow parish-ioners in participating in this timely series. No prior experience is necessary. Cost is $25 for lesson materials and contribution to-ward the DVD set. Please notify Laura MacMullin or Joanne Boag ([email protected]) by Friday, March 30, of your interest in the program.
Thank you Many, many thanks to Mahoney’s of Winchester for managing the herculean task of snow removal in the church parking lot! Our friends at Mahoney’s kindly donate their services to make our parking area and our walkways safe. Kindly patronize Mahoney’s, and when you do, please thank them for their ser-vices.

The Unbroken Word
Lent is a special season, one of reflection, penance, and anticipation. Sometimes we view Lent as a period where new reso-lutions, short-term change, or a limited withdrawal from something desirable marks our diaries. However, the withdrawal itself is often just a reminder. After all, how many of us are sleeping on the floor for 40 days or some other penance activity that genuinely reminds us of the pain Christ endured for us? I sadly admit I have not taken such action. One word which reminds me of how many of us view the Lenten period is resistance. Resistance can be viewed in a posi-tive way, where we remove ourselves from bad habits, everyday treats, and general methods to separate ourselves from things we want to change. We distance ourselves in this process from the problem or pleasure, thereby either avoiding temptation or offering some gift to God. However, resistance can also be a separating force. One where we make a decision to do one thing in our lives to change and then close ourselves off to other changes which present themselves during Lent. We can view Lent as an obligation, decide what we are going to resist and then continue to practice all the other things which are not so good, almost as if we have been given a mulligan (golf term for an extra shot) by God to “carry on as before.” I have spent many Lenten periods in my life this way. Not something I am proud of but does illustrate how resistance can translate to being separated from God, not just resisting a specific temptation. So where am I going with this discussion? Resistance to change can be the most essential element in making changes in our prayer life. If we want Lent to be more than a punctuation mark in our spiritual life, we have to be open. Just as we may cradle our hands creat-ing a throne to receive Christ in the Eucharist, we need to reflect this openness in our everyday life, or at least dur-ing periods such as Lent. This will give the Holy Spir-it and Christ the opportunity to show us new roads, new ways, new directions which we can take with us as we exit in the celebration of His Resurrection on Easter Sun-day. This way we won’t have to leave behind what we have learned, changed for a while, modified in our behavior, but to be open to Him at all times. Being open in this way calls us to humility and vulnerabil-ity in our everyday life, so our soul is as transparent as our hands, and then we can say a real, Great Amen.
Following
Is it me following the stream, Or did the stream come to me?
Watching,
Me and my friends see it go by each day, And yet stay still.
A both/and stream.
Sometimes full of water, spilling onto our trunks, But always providing nourishment,
Spilling hidden water reaching the deepest roots.
I will stand and follow. Becoming a both/and tree.
