What is the First-Year Experience Program?The First-Year Experience Program (FYE) is a year-long program designed to help students be successful in their first year of college. Students enrolled in the program will receive intensive support including: registration assistance, financial aid application assistance, embedded tutoring in learning communities, priority access to FYE Counselors, assistance with degree & career planning, access to student support services and college success workshops, and mentoring. In addition, students will participate in an exclusive FYE Orientation, which includes a campus tour.

Who can apply? All students are welcome to apply, but priority will be given to those students whose first credit enrollment at Palomar will be Fall 2016.

Why should I apply?Starting a new educational journey can be exciting and overwhelming. The FYE staff and counselors are committed to helping students make a smooth and successful transition to college while providing a supportive and caring environment. FYE connects students to the people, programs, and resources necessary for academic success and personal growth.

What courses will I take?FYE students will choose a track to enroll in their first year at Palomar College: English, Math, or ESL. Enrolling in one of these tracks helps students get on the right track towards graduation. A counselor can help FYE students select a track, if necessary.

What special events can I participate in?There will be opportunities to attend social and cultural activities and field trips offered exclusively for FYE participants. In addition, FYE students can participate in the Village Mentoring Program.
