What is a Multi-- Tiered System of Supports?‐

MTSS is a term used to describe an evidence-based model that uses data based problemsolving to integrate academic and behavioral instruction and intervention.

The integrated instruction is provided to students at varying level of intensity based on student need.

The goal is to prevent learning and behavior problems and intervene early so that students can be successful.

1. MTSS is for ALL students:

a. All will be Tier 1b. Some will be Tier 1 and Tier 2c. Few will be Tier 1, Tier 2 and

Tier 3

2. MTSS is a process, not a program

3. MTSS is used by teachers to make instructional decisions

Tier IIIRefers to the interventionsthat are provided to individual students.

Tier II Refers to interventions that are provided to small groups of students who need more support than theare receiving at the CORE.

Tier IRefers to the high quality instruction that isprovided to all students in the general education classroom.

• Ask for regular progress monitoring reports.

.• Celebrate your child’s success.

How can I participate in MTSS?Families play a critical role in supporting what their children are learning in school. The more parents share in student learning the higher the student achievement.

Ask questions to learn more about MTSS in your child’s school.

• Is my child successful?

• How do I know?

• If not, why and what can we do differently?

• If needed, how is additional help going to beprovided? By Whom? How often? How long?

• What can I do to participate in problems solving about my child?

• What can I do to help with the interventions for my child at home?
