Letter to St. Mary and St. Ursula Parishioners
Dear Parish Family, The events of the past few weeks have brought about so many previously unimaginable changes and so much uncertainty to our daily lives. However, we all cling to the Lord’s promise that He will always be with us until the end of time, and one of the ways He fulfills this promise is through His Church. In this time of anxiety and fear we need to draw very close to our families and loved ones, and our parish is our spiritual family. As Catholics we recognize that the Eucharist is the source of our strength and unity, and even as I write this letter to you, we are exploring options to broadcast our parish Masses to you via electronic and/or digital media. We will provide updates on our progress with messages on the Parish Grouping website www.stsmaryandursula.org. While we do not currently have a database of parishioner’s email addresses, we will also attempt to utilize the email addresses that we do have as another form of communication. Also, the Parish’s Facebook page can be used as a means of staying in touch. In addition to finding important parish grouping information, parishioners can use it as a digital meeting place where we can encourage each other in faith and lift each other’s spirits. In the midst of information and reports that change daily, some of you have been so kind as to call to inquire how you can help until the parishes become fully operational again and public Masses resume. Our joint Finance Councils have met and provide these suggestions: 1) Contact your bank for guidance regarding how you can make electronic bank transfers to St. Mary’s
and St. Ursula’s. a) Currently, the bank can assist you by establishing a “bank generated” check as a payment method. b) We are also pursing implementation of an “online” contribution app.
2) Send your Offertory envelopes via US mail to the St. Mary and St. Ursula parish offices. 3) Drop your Offertory envelopes at the St. Mary and St. Ursula parish offices mail slot. Although we are extremely grateful for any financial help you can share with us, we are also very sensitive to the fact that many of you may be experiencing personal financial difficulties due to the impact of these uncertain times. Please remember that we have a St. Vincent de Paul Society who is prepared and dedicated to helping you until this crisis has subsided. Therefore, we ask those who can continue to contribute to be as generous as possible, so we can be here to help others. None of us have any idea how many weeks or months this pandemic will last, but as Christians we remember the words of St. Paul, that we “walk by faith, not by sight.” In other words, even in the midst of the trials to come there will be many blessings. The Holy Spirit never sleeps! And if we put on our “faith glasses” we will be able to recognize those blessings happening all around us. Even if you just need a prayer over the phone, please do not hesitate to contact Fr. Ernie, Fr. Joe or myself. Although we are forbidden to celebrate Mass publicly, we are celebrating Mass privately and all of you are in our hearts when we stand by the altar. But don’t underestimate how much we need your prayers also. It will take all of us, working and praying together, to get us through this difficult and uncertain time.
