O Lord, we beseech you mercifully to receive the prayers of your people who call upon you, and grant that they may both perceive and know what things they out to do, and also may grace and power faithfully to fulfil them; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

From our Locum Vicar

Today is known in the National Church as ‘Sea Sunday’. We give thanks especially for the work of the ‘Mission to Seafarers’, (MtS) one of our dedicated Anglican Welfare Agencies.

In Victoria we have MtS branches in the ports of Melbourne, Hastings, Geelong and Portland. The Melbourne centre is that iconic building at the bottom end of Flinders Street - it’s a heritage listed building in Spanish architectural style and has a domed roof building adjacent, all part of the complex.

I love the little chapel with its magnificent pulpit in the shape of the bow of a ship. The building has a large recreational space for seafarers to gather in groups, but also rooms for quieter use - like making phone calls or using a computer.

The Mission has a Chaplain who visits many of the ships at the dock often for just a few hours. Hospitality, pastoral care and practical support is offered to seafarers and if possible their families.

All sorts of problems effect the lives of those who work on the high seas - problems at home, but also personal

issues, anxiety and loneliness to name a few. The Chaplain and trained volunteers are there to offer a listening ear and other spiritual and practical support.

I have been a visitor to the Mission on several occasions in recent years and once a year to the Annual ANL Art Show - this is one of the best art shows in Melbourne - the works must relate to the water or docks - the standard is always superb and the exhibition space at the Mission is one of the best in town.

I thoroughly recommend a visit to our very own MtS - it’s open every day from 10am to 10pm.

Finally, on Thursday we heard the news that Bishop James Grant had died. Bp. Jim as he was known to most of us was an icon of the Diocese of Melbourne and an incredible mine of knowledge and wisdom. He served as a Parish Priest, Assistant Bishop and Dean of the Cathedral and held many other roles. He will be sadly missed. May he rest n peace and rise in glory.

Every blessing, Ray McInnes

Psalm 25.1-10 APBA, page 244, 10am TiS 14 This poem is an acrostic, each line beginning with letters from the Hebrew alphabet. It alternates prayers for deliverance with expressions of trust in God.

A reading from the letter of Paul to the Colossians. This joyful introduction to the letter is one of thanksgiving and prayer. The church in Colossae is commended by Paul for its expression of the Christian virtues of faith, love and hope as a community.

Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, To the saints and faithful brothers and sisters in Christ in Colossae: Grace to you and peace from God our Father. In our prayers for you we always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, for we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love that you have for all the saints, because of the hope laid up for you in heaven. You have heard of this hope before in the word of the truth, the gospel that has come to you. Just as it is bearing fruit and growing in the whole world, so it has been bearing fruit among yourselves from the day you heard it and truly comprehended the grace of God. This you learned from Epaphras, our beloved fellow-servant. He is a faithful minister of Christ on your behalf, and he has made known to us your love in the Spirit. For this reason, since the day we heard it, we have not ceased praying for you and asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of God’s will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you may lead lives worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, as you bear fruit in every good work and as you grow in the knowledge of God. May you be made strong with all the strength that comes from his glorious power, and may you be prepared to endure everything with patience, while joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has enabled you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the light. He has rescued us from the power of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Colossians 1.1-14 Reader May your word live in us, ALL And bear much fruit to your glory.

Gospel Acclamation ALL Alleluia! Alleluia! Assist your neighbour to the best of your ability. ALL Alleluia! Reader The Lord be with you ALL And also with you
