Remember all of our deceased loved ones in your prayers

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Come Follow Me

Discipleship is a life-long commitment and calls for renewal again

and again. Today’s gospel gives us not just instances of different

individuals unable to make that commitment, but also a reminder to

us all of how we sometimes fail to leave up to our own commitment

to follow the Lord who has called us. Each occasion to choose

between right and wrong, just and unjust, is a moment to express

and cement our discipleship.

The Catechism gives us some insight into some elements of true

discipleship:

“Christ is the center of all Christian life. The bond with him takes

precedence over all other bonds, familial or social. From the very

beginning of the Church there have been men and women who

have renounced the great good of marriage to follow the Lamb

wherever he goes, to be intent on the things of the Lord, to seek to

please him, and to go out to meet the Bridegroom who is

coming. Christ himself has invited certain persons to follow him in

this way of life, of which he remains the model: ‘For there are

eunuchs who have been so from birth, and there are eunuchs who

have been made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who

have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of

heaven. He who is able to receive this, let him receive it”

(CCC, 1618)

“Grave matter is specified by the Ten Commandments, corre-

sponding to the answer of Jesus to the rich young man: ‘Do not kill,

Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness,

Do not defraud, Honor your father and your mother.’ The gravity of

sins is more or less great: murder is graver than theft. One must

also take into account who is wronged: violence against parents is

in itself graver than violence against a stranger. (CCC, 1858)

“Finally, our battle has to confront what we experience as failure in

prayer: discouragement during periods of dryness; sadness that,

because we have ‘great possessions,’ we have not given all to the

Lord; disappointment over not being heard according to our own

will; wounded pride, stiffened by the indignity that is ours as

sinners; our resistance to the idea that prayer is a free and

unmerited gift; and so forth. The conclusion is always the same:

what good does it do to pray? To overcome these obstacles, we

must battle to gain humility, trust, and perseverance.” (CCC, 2728)

Any genuine commitment must confront hurdles and obstacles to

it. Sometimes we stumble, but we cannot stop striving to follow and

keep our focus on the Master.

Have a blessed week everyone!

Fr. Bernardine

Rewriting the Story

Freedom is not always what it appears to

be. The man in Mark 10:17-30 was free to be

rich, but because of his riches he was not free

to be happy. As free as he may have seemed

to others, he knew in the depth of his heart

that he was a slave, so he went away sad.

Matthew describes him as very rich but his

fear of letting go left him enslaved. The

message of the story is one that crosses time,

cultures, and even religions. It is a message

opposed to the promises of Madison Avenue.

Socrates claimed happiness by never

collecting that which he would be afraid to

lose. Jesus has reminded us that the poor in

spirit will inherit the earth. It may be good

for us to put ourselves in the place of the

Rich Man in Mark 10 and

rewrite the story, at least the ending.

Never tell me the sky’s the limit when

there are footprints on the moon.

Holy Rosary’s Fundraising Raffle tickets are now

available. Each ticket is $25 dollars. There is a 1st, 2nd & 3rd

place drawing each month for 12 consecutive months. Every

ticket will be entered into each month’s drawings regardless of

how many times it has previously been drawn. Only 500 tickets

will be sold. The drawings will begin the 1st Sunday after the

last ticket is sold and then the 1st Sunday of every month for the

12 months. We need everyone to participate in helping to reach

our goal. Please see Claudia for more info . If you took tickets to

sell and have sold them, please return the stubs & money to

Claudia. If you have tickets you cannot sell, return those too.

Hopefully you will sell all you have and will need more!

There are 91 tickets still available. Let’s get this done!!!

The school is taking orders for their

Cookie Dough Fundraiser. There will

be someone in the back to take your

order. Please consider purchasing

something to help the school. Not

of goodies to choose from .

people every Sunday that will rotate with the

others. By doing this, you will only be counting

one Sunday a month. Please consider volunteering

to do this. If you have any questions, see Claudia.

There is a sign-up sheet on the podium.
