It is a joy to feel the power of the Holy Spirit make its presence known at our Confirmation retreat days. I am extremely grateful to the entire community for surrounding our parish in prayer. We are blessed with gifted volunteers who offer themselves to become the conduit to the Holy Spirit and invite our young people to live with expectation and hope. I would also like to thank Julie our Director of Middle School Religious Education for continuing to be a role model for this age group and a doorway to possibility. Faith takes on many forms and it is important that our openness leads our teens to a greater connection with Jesus. The outdoor Mass was a great experience. With our Parish Council member Rob Janosek taking the leadership role, and the Knights of Columbus who gathered together to do set up, we were on a roll. The sun shined brightly and the wind was pleasant. The staff, with the help of the ushers greeted everyone and helped to show everyone how things were going to happen. I am grateful for their presence. Rich did a great job of not only preparing the choir, but also of getting Bill Minick to provide awesome sound. Evangelization happened that afternoon as the neighborhood heard the Word of God without walls or barriers. It was all good and all blessed. In the upcoming week we have the Holy Day of Obligation, the Feast of the Assumption. Please gather as we celebrate the glory of our Blessed Mother. August 20th is the deadline for applications for the mission trip. Please submit them to the office. If you missed the meeting, you may pick up an application in the office as well. Please pray for the second Confirmation Retreat on August 17th. The power of prayer is effective and works. Father John

What more can they ask for? What more do they want? Ever feel that way? Sometimes that happens in the workplace. When expectations are given, sometimes our response is one of becoming defensive. Sometimes it causes us to say we are already doing enough. I can remember the morning the Bishop called while they were at the Bishop’s Conference. He wanted me to move from my position as a committee member to become the chairperson of the committee as Bishop Siegel was going to have to vacate the position when he was lifted up to take on his own diocese. My first thought to myself was, am I not doing enough? In the end, because it was the Bishop asking and because I value seminarian education, I responded affirmatively to the request. Going the extra mile is not always easy. It means extra hours work. It demands sacrifice. I now go to more meetings at the diocese than I did for the last ten years combined. It is necessary and the importance of the mission outweighs the cost of the sacrifice. It is in this place that we are invited to embrace the demands of God. When we see the bigger picture, when we come to realize the greater need of what God is asking of us, the sacrifice not only has meaning, but it also has conviction. God is demanding much of all of us. Jesus Himself suffered and died on the cross—the ultimate sacrifice, going the ultimate extra mile for the salvation of the world. When we keep our eyes fixed on the purpose of the mission, we are more willing to turn the demand or sacrifice into a passion and energy. How often when we believe in the dream or the potential of the outcome, we dig in deeper to get it accomplished? Jesus is asking us to dig deeper into the things that matter to the Kingdom of God. Today’s Gospel is not meant to make us defensive or make us question what more can we give. It is a Gospel of opportunity, one that says true joy will come when we are all in. True joy will be our companion when we see the demands as stepping stones to holiness. Reverend John J. Ouper

HIDDEN TREASURES LIBRARY Check out some great Reading!

Did you know. . . Saint Anne Parish has not one but two libraries in the Joachim Center? The adult library is located across the hall from the Chapel. It has quite a large collection of books, as well as audio and VCR tapes. The children’s area is in the opposite hall. The libraries are open when the Joachim Center is open and we use a “self-check out” system.

Why not check it out!

MISSION STATEMENT God has called us to be Christian witnesses by the precious gift of our Catholic faith through Baptism. Just as Saint Anne had a role in God’s plan so do each of us. We are called to faithfully teach and live the message of Jesus. We listen to God’s word, grow in our understanding of it and respond to it through outreach and service in our own parish as well as the wider community. We exercise our responsibility to develop and see the gifts God has given us for the common good and to insure that our Eucharistic celebrations are truly joyful and meaningful. SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Baptisms are generally held the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month (some months this may vary) at 12:30 PM. Expectant parents are to call the Parish Office, six months before the birth of their child for preparation information. Please do not choose Godparents until you receive the established Church guidelines for Godparents. SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE Couples seeking the Sacrament of Marriage should call the parish office at least six months before the date of marriage. A wedding date may not be secured until meeting with the parish Deacon or Priest. At that time, the couple will be secured a date and begin the process of preparation for the Sacrament of Marriage.
