In Jesus and Mary,

Father Jeff Kegley Pastor

Jesus is Lord!

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Revival is coming to Saint Mary’s!

The Revival – God, Country, Family, will be held this coming week, Friday to Sunday, September 11 - 13, 2020 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. We are living in very challenging times to say the least. There is so much pain, confusion, fear, and suffering in our world. While many look to man, government, and institutions to solve our problems, as Catholic Christians, we know the only answer to these problems is JESUS! The challenges in our church, country, and families give rise for a need for a Revival! We need Jesus!

The “Revival” invites everyone to come together to pray and to ask the Holy Spirit to renew our church, country, and families. We read in Sacred Scripture: If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14.

We are blessed that Bishop David O’Connell will open the “Revival” be celebrating Holy Mass on September 11th. At this Mass we will remember our parishioners and Middletown residents, who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks on our nation on September 11, 2001.

The Revival will also include teachings, personal testimonies of the Saving Power of Jesus Christ, Eucharistic Adoration, Healing Service, Praise and Worship, with lots of prayer and intercession for the Lord to heal our church, country, and families.

I am asking all our parishioners not only to join us and actively pray for Revival in our church, country, and families, but to be promoters of the Revival. Invite your friends, family, co-workers, neighbors – EVERYONE. We will be advertising the Revival on radio, social media, billboards on highway 35 & 36 and every other avenue that will reach people. Again, there is a great urgency and need for “Revival” in our church, country, and families. Be part of the Revival!

On Tuesday, Saint Mary School opens for the 2020-2021 school year. Please keep all our students, teachers, and staff in your prayers.

Have a blessed Labor Day on Monday. Daily Mass will be offered at 9:00 am. Have a blessed week!

Pope Francis: Eucharistic Adoration is the secret to knowing the love of Jesus Christ

Pope Francis encourages spread of silent Eucharistic adoration

VATICAN CITY — Immersing oneself in silent Eucharistic adoration is the secret to knowing the Lord, Pope Francis said on Thursday morning at Holy Mass in the chapel of his residence at Santa Marta.

“One cannot know the Lord without being in the habit of adoring, of adoring in silence,” the pope said in his homily. Yet, he lamented, “I believe, if I am not mistaken, that this prayer of adoration is the least known among us; it is the one we engage in the least.”

“To waste time — if I may say it — before the Lord, before the mystery of Jesus Christ. To adore, there in the silence, in the silence of adoration. He is the Lord, and I adore Him.”

The pope based his homily on Thursday’s first reading from St. Paul’s Letter to the Ephesians (3:14-21), in which the Apostle prays that the Holy Spirit may grant them the grace to be strengthened, and that Christ may dwell in their hearts. “Here is the heart and center,” Pope Francis said.

Paul, the pope observed, “immerses himself” in the “sea which is the Person of Christ.”

“How can we come to know Christ,” he asked? How can we come to know “the love of Christ, which surpasses all knowledge” (Eph 3:14-21)?

Knowing Christ through the Gospel and the Catechism

“Christ is present in the Gospel, and we come to know Christ by reading the Gospel,” the pope said. “And all of us do this, at least we hear the Gospel when we go to Mass.”

We also come to know Christ by studying the Catechism, he added, since “the catechism teaches us who Christ is.” But this is not enough, he said. “In order to understand the breadth and length and height and depth of Jesus Christ we need to enter into prayer, as Paul does, on his knees, saying: ‘Father, send me the Holy Spirit that I may know Jesus.’”

Encountering the Lord in the silence of Adoration

“We need to pray” in order truly to know Christ, the Pope repeated. But Paul “does not only pray; he adores this mystery which surpasses all knowledge, and it is within the context of adoration that he asks this grace” from the Lord.

“One cannot know the Lord without the habit of adoring, of adoring in silence,” he said. “I believe — if I am not mistaken — that this prayer of adoration is the least known among us; it is the one we engage in the least. To waste time — if I may say it — before the Lord, before the mystery of Jesus Christ. To adore, there in the silence, in the silence of adoration. He is the Lord and I adore Him.”

Recognizing that we are sinners in order to know the mystery of Jesus

Thirdly, the pope said, “to come to know Christ we need to know ourselves, that is, we need to be in the habit of accusing ourselves,” of calling ourselves “sinners.”

“One cannot adore without accusing oneself. To enter into this bottomless and boundless sea, which is the mystery of Christ, these things are needed. Prayer: ‘Father, send me the Spirit that he might lead me to know Jesus.’ Second, adoring the mystery, entering into the mystery through adoration. And third, accusing oneself: ‘I am a man of unclean lips.’”

The pope concluded: “May the Lord also grant us this grace which Paul asked for the Ephesians, this grace of coming to know Christ.”

Dear Parishioners,

Parish Giving is the premier electronic on-line giving and payment system for church

communities throughout the nation. Parish Giving is a safe, secure and easy way to make on-line

parish and church related donations and payments.

One major advantage of electronic giving is that it normalizes offertory collection in order to

properly budget for our parish. If you are on vacation, work or visiting family and friends and

are not able to worship with our parish community on Sunday, Parish Giving enables you to

continue the needed financially support for our mission and ministry here at Saint Mary’s.

Because of this stability in offertory collections, parishes who encourage parishioners to use

electronic giving see a 25% increase in weekly collections. We certainly need that at Saint

Mary’s.

So I would like to encourage you to sign up for Parish Giving. To do so, please visit our webpage

at www.stmarychurchnj.org and click the “Parish Giving” button on the top right of the page.

This will bring you to the Parish Giving page for Saint Mary’s. It is very easy to sign up. If you

have any questions about Parish Giving, please feel free to call the parish office.

Thank you for your consideration and thank you for all your financial support to our parish

community of Saint Mary’s. As I keep saying, “we are blessed!”

In Jesus and Mary,

Father Jeff Kegley

Pastor

“And the king will say to them in reply, ‘Amen, I

say to you, whatever you did for one of these least

brothers of mine, you did for me.’ “ Matt 25:40

We’d like to offer a word of thanks to our faithful

benefactors who have continued to support our

ministry during this pandemic. This is, and has

been a challenging time for all of us, but most

especially for our neighbors who struggle financially on a regular basis and/or

who are now struggling due to the loss of income as a result of the

quarantine. We need the support of our parish family to help those in need. Your

donation, no matter the amount, helps to improve the lives of others, something

we are all called to do as Catholic Christians.

We hope you will prayerfully consider making a donation. Checks, made payable

to St. Vincent de Paul of St Mary’s, can be mailed to our attention at the parish

office. If you’d prefer to make a cash donation, and until we can gather for Mass

in the church, the poor box has been moved from the narthex to the entrance of

the parish offices. Donations of non-perishable food, paper goods, cleaning

supplies or personal items can be placed in the bin located in the vestibule of the

church.

We ask that you continue to support our ministry, both financially and in prayer. We in turn are praying for you, our generous benefactors. We thank you and God bless you.

WANTED: Warehouse space for furniture and household items we provide to

families in need; minimum 7,000 sq ft.; charity-driven rent arrangement.

serving our community. Based on Superstorm Sandy

experience, we anticipate a surge in requests once

the reality of COVID-19 on jobs lost is felt by those

most vulnerable. To learn more, visit us at:
