The Most Holy Trinity June 11, 2017 EUCHARISTIC MINISTER TRAINING - SUNDAY EVENING JUNE 11 - AFTER THE 6:30 MASS - Meet in the church for training - then gather in Seton Hall for some wine and cheese!! All Eucharistic Ministers and future EM's are encouraged to attend. With the warmer weather here, I am asking parents once again to consider how you allow your children to dress when coming to church. This is also applicable to all. While there is a degree of humor in the following message, the humor is not meant to deflect from the seriousness of the admonition. In particular, the concern is fundamental to the very dignity and respect of the human person. Our body is the dwelling of Gods spirit, and it is our responsibility, as temples of the spirit, to clothe ourselves in the dignity that Gods spirit deserves. Casual is not the same as immod- est. Casual does no mean drawing attention to oneself in a manner that diminishes the dignity of the human body. Swimming against the tide of a culture that sees the body as an instrumental means alone is difficult-but being a Christian in the world is also difficult. Please pass this on to your children and your childrens children. What to Wear for Church I am far from a prude. I have been at two colleges, Bethany and Walsh, and I am familiar with informality. In fact I am more comfortable in a casual setting than in a formal one. However, I have noticed that the line between informality and immodesty sometimes is a thin one. I have no problem with men or women wearing shorts to church and com- fortable tops (even with logo and words IF respectful and without innuendo.) So what is my concern? Short shorts that leave nothing to the imagination, and tops so short that when a person sits down or bends over there is more of their behind showing than Joe the Plumber. That is one side of concern. The other is for a sense of modesty and decorum that respects the human body-especially womens clothing that does not distract every male who still has an ounce of breath in them. Also, the temptation when out of control could be a source of sin and even violence against women. Above all, our church building is a sacred space-not an auditorium or gym-or a social hall. It is consecrated as a holy space– and is homefor those who are also consecrated in Baptism as the Beloved of God. I ask parents to help in monitoring the clothing of Gods sons and daughters. EUCHARISTIC MINISTER TRAINING - SUNDAY EVENING JUNE 11 - AFTER THE 6:30 MASS - Meet in the church for training - then gather in Seton Hall for some wine and cheese!!

Our body is the dwelling of God’s spirit, and it is our responsibility, as temples of the spirit, to clothe ourselves in the dignity that God’s spirit deserves. Casual is not the same as immod-est. Casual does no mean drawing attention to oneself in a manner that diminishes the dignity of the human body. Swimming against the tide of a culture that sees the body as an instrumental means alone is difficult-but being a Christian in the world is also difficult. Please pass this on to your children and your children’s children.

What to Wear for Church

I am far from a prude. I have been at two colleges, Bethany and Walsh, and I am familiar with informality. In fact I am more comfortable in a casual setting than in a formal one. However, I have noticed that the line between informality and immodesty sometimes is a thin one. I have no problem with men or women wearing shorts to church and com-fortable tops (even with logo and words IF respectful and without innuendo.)

So what is my concern? Short shorts that leave nothing to the imagination, and tops so short that when a person sits down or bends over there is more of their behind showing than “Joe the Plumber.” That is one side of concern. The other is for a sense of modesty and decorum that respects the human body-especially women’s clothing that does not distract every male who still has an ounce of breath in them. Also, the temptation when out of control could be a source of sin and even violence against women.

Above all, our church building is a sacred space-not an auditorium or gym-or a social hall. It is consecrated as a holy space– and is “home” for those who are also consecrated in Baptism as the Beloved of God. I ask parents to help in monitoring the clothing of God’s sons and daughters. LGaetano
