And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true,

and honourable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable.

Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Philippians 4:8 NLT

Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin.

(Zechariah 4:10) PCS Students Make Good!

We have finally said farewell to our latest Year 12

students. The Yr 12 Graduation was held at the

Parkes Leagues Club, with almost 200 people in

attendance. It was a lovely night with a

tremendously good feeling. The students looked

wonderful and were a great credit to themselves and

to their school.

They can feel very proud of themselves for

everything they have achieved in their time at Parkes

Christian School.

Even before the HSC results have been released I am

proud and pleased to announce that a number of

our HSC cohort have already received offers for university courses for 2017. Other students are waiting to

hear about their applications under the School Recommendation Scheme through the University

Admission Centre. Aron Peters has enlisted in the Royal Australian Army, and commenced on 1 Nov.

I am also pleased to convey some wonderful news of a past PCS student.

Some of you may know Deb Magill. For the past six years she has been Director of Learning at Roseville

College. As of 2017, Deb will be Principal of the College. Roseville College is an Anglican Girls’ School,

located in the Northern Suburbs of Sydney, with an enrolment of over 900 students. The College has been

around for over 100 years and Deb Magill will make only the 10th Principal of the College.

The Chairman of the College Board said, Deb was chosen after an exhaustive Australia-wide search.

On behalf of everyone at Parkes Christian School, we wish you all the best in your new position. We know

you will do a great job.

Students from small, rural schools can and do achieve fantastic things!

We need

undies!

Black, green, red or blue

As long as no holes are showing through

Clean and crisp, nice and new

What a caring gift from you

A gift we want to send to Fiji

A gift of love from you and me

They have none – oh good grief

No Undies, jocks or type of brief

Please consider if you can

To send underclothes to your fellow man

Put them in the sick bay room

And relieve our friends in their time of gloom

Thanks for your help with the women last year

Now it’s the men who need to hear

That someone who they may never meet

Understands about to sow and reap

If you can, please donate some men’s undies to send to Fiji Maximum prison.

Put them in the box in the sick bay and we will send them soon.

You may never know the impact of such a simple gesture, ……..but then again maybe you will.

Thanks

On Tuesday 22nd November 2016, our Junior Boys cricket

team travelled over to Dubbo Christian School for our

second cricket match. Dubbo won the toss and elected to

bat first.

Our boys started off with a fantastic opening, taking 4 very

early wickets with some great bowling from Daniel

Applebee and Jacob Mitchell, with Daniel bowling 2

batsman out. Dubbo were 4 for 30 odd runs. However,

with 2 new batsman coming in and holding an extremely

strong partnership of well over 130 runs between the both

of them, Dubbo ended up with a total at the end of 30

overs of 5/234.

After lunch, our junior boys padded up and were ready to

go into batting for the chase. Unfortunately we lost a few

early wickets. Jesse Magill came off retired hurt and also

Nick Strudwick.

Some strong batting from Daniel Applebee helped the PCS

boys achieve some more runs, and with Nick going back in

after some time off hurt helped with the run tally, with

some great 4s being hit.

Unfortunately the day ended with a controversial umpire

call and all our boys out for 55. Well done to Nick Strudwick

(team captain) who dealt with it well and the boys all shook

hands having enjoyed their time out on the cricket field.

The boys all had a great day, being able to practice what

they had been taught at training and making new friends

with the Dubbo team.

A big thank you to Josh from Dubbo for helping organise

this day for our teams, and for Nick Strudwick and his

mother for helping train the boys at lunch times, and for

Ben Pearce for helping umpire on the day.

I hope that these cricket days will continue between our

school and DCS in the future.

Friendship Games in Dubbo

On Friday, November 18, Dubbo Christian School hosted

the 2016 Friendship Games. Traditionally and since 2005, a

Team Sports Gala Day, this year the Friendship Games took

for the first time a cross KLA (Key Learning Area) format. It

involved approximately 600 students and over 50 staff

from five schools – Orange Christian School, Orange Angli-

can Grammar School, Parkes Christian School, Macquarie

Anglican Grammar, as well as Dubbo Christian School.

Students participated in cultural, academic and sport

events such as Science, Technology, Engineering and

Mathematics (STEM), Debating, Music Showcasing, Chess,

Netball, Basketball, Touch Football, Rugby 7s and Soccer.

The sporting events were for both gender, and were

divided into Junior (7-9) and Senior (10-11) age groups.

We were blessed with a wonderful sunny day, with the day

running very efficiently. 84 games were played on the

sporting fields/courts and many other team and individuals

took part in the various STEM challenges, Debating, Music

showcase and Chess.

Students were magnificent in the way they represented

their school, displaying enthusiasm, skill and collective

problem solving skills. Students made connections and

made friendships; staff were also able to exchange ideas

and make important connections.

We were able to remind all participants that participating

in all of the activities on offer is a bit like participating in

life, where we should not allow ourselves to fall into the

trappings of winning at all costs, but rather when

competing we should do it with honour and dignity, with a

genuine appreciation for our opponents and those who

officiate. How can we honour God as we live out the gift of

our lives? A question worth considering.

A big congratulations to all our students on the events you

participated in throughout the day. Well done to our Rugby

7s team who won their first game playing together, with

some amazing team work and Jacob Mitchell and James

Simpson stepping around everyone! Our junior girls and

senior girls’ soccer and touch football teams were

outstanding, and some of the senior girls even got to have

a go at rugby 7s! Our junior boys soccer and touch football

teams worked well together and had a great time

participating and making new friends. Students also

participated in indoor Netball and Basketball.

As God reminds us all, in the book of Ecclesiastics, never to

compare ourselves to one another for we’ll always find

someone who is greater (or not, than us). Rather, we should

compare ourselves against ourselves; against how we

measure against what God calls us to be and become. We

should always ask ourselves how faithful we are in regards

to God’s call in our lives. One of such calls is to “love one

another”. Students were challenged to think about the love

of God towards us under the banner of “No Greater Love”,

as well as the shape it can take through the development of

friendships and what friends should do for each other.

Finally, a BIG THANK YOU to all our fantastic PCS staff who

made the day possible, taking the responsibility of helping

with events on offer, demonstrating great professionalism,

such wonderful commitment and generosity. Well done

also to all students who helped out with umpiring games

throughout the day! Thank you also to Parkes Rugby Club

for lending us tackling bags and rugby jerseys for the day.

We praise God for His goodness!
