ParkLife magazine is free for all and has in excess of 60,000 readers. We are now online to provide a better service to you and we look forward to packing it full of local information. You can find us atwww.parklifescotland.com. We have big plans for this site. Watch out this year for special offers which we will be putting in as well as any late events.

In this summer edition we have our Gift Shop and Gallery Trail on the map page and also the Where to Eat guide on page 38 which tells you what facilities are offered at each eatery. We are brimming over with a huge selection of events from the Fintry drama group’s new production of ‘The Boyfriend’, The Wee Green Market in Killearn, Kippen Street Fayre and ‘Go Wild in Buchlyvie’ which has an art competition sponsored by the Green Gallery and ParkLife, see page 32.

Our list of local trades and services covers everything you could possibly need and remember when you go local you will always find a reference locally which is always worth doing before starting a project. Whether designing a home extension, large or small, or even a new house, RWW Architects, based in Drymen, will give you a great design service - see page 13. Don’t forget we have Gilmour and Aitken in Alexandria for building materials and LA Lodges will supply you with a log cabin or summer house in the garden.

Have a great summer!

Kids in the Park

This autobiography tells the story of Miley Cyrus from ordinary girl to pop sensation superstar.Three years ago, Miley was virtually unknown. She had a farm-life in Franklin, Tennessee living with mum - Tish, two sisters - Brandi and Noah, two brothers - Trace and Brandon, a dog called Loco and the world famous country singer as a dad - Billy Ray Cyrus.

Miley’s life was pretty busy already with the farm, scary sixth-grade bullies and a big family but throughout that Miley kept up her competitive cheerleading. She would train everyday after school and her mum would drive her up and down the country for competitions.

Then one day it was up to Miley to choose from either cheerleading or stardom because along came a little show called Hannah Montana!

I really enjoyed this book because it has so much information from Miley’s point of view and I really liked looking at all of her childhood pictures.

by Caitlin Ford, age 13

A Little PrincessBy Frances Hodgson BurnettIntroduced by Adeline Yen Mah

This story is about a young girl called Sara who is put into a boarding school called Miss Minchins, select seminary for young ladies. She gets put into boarding school because her very wealthy father Captain Crewe has gone off to war. Later on in the story Sara gets told her father has died in the war and does not have a penny left as he put all his money into diamond mines and his friend ran away taking all the money with him. Now Sara was used to getting everything she wanted so life as a scullery maid was tough. She has a warm heart and lives her life pretending to be a princess even when she gets nothing to eat and gets whacked behind the knees.

But maybe just maybe her fortune could still be out there searching for her..........

Think Pink Scotland Recipe Book committee have been absolutely overwhelmed by the interest in their Charity Recipe Book.Over 200 delicious recipes have already been received and a large group of recipes from well known Celebrities - whose identities will be revealed once the book goes on sale. The ladies involved are really excited about the forth coming publication. The Recipe Book will be an ideal Christmas present for all age groups and will be available by 1st September.

“We have been so touched and energised by everyone who has got involved.” Freda Robertson committee member.

The girls are now meticulously sifting through the recipes and collating the final selection due to go to print shortly. Details of how to order your copy/ies will be available soon. Watch this space!

The book is part of a campaign to raise £250,000 to fund a laboratory at the Beatson Translational Research Centre in Glasgow. Providing a lab would accelerate understanding of the disease, improve existing therapies and speed up drug development, with the ultimate hope of finding a cure for cancer.

It features Abigail Lightbody and Geoff Truscott, the leading roles of Polly and Tony in FADS coming production of Sandy Wilson’s THE BOY FRIEND.

In June, Fintry Amateur Dramatic Society is staging Sandy Wilson’s ‘The Boy Friend’.

The Boy Friend is a comic pastiche of the 1920’s which was written at a time when the United Kingdom was still recovering from the devastating effects of World War 2.It is set in the carefree world of the French Riviera.

It tells the story of a group of young ladies who are pupils at the Villa Caprice, or Madame Dubonnet’s School for Young Ladies. The most important aim for these young women is to find a Boy Friend, not just an ordinary Boy Friend but a young man of wealth and social standing. To this end the cast romp their way through music of the roaring 20’s in their performance of favourites such as The Boy Friend, Won’t You Charleston With Me, Perfect Young Ladies and A Room In Bloomsbury.

The Boy Friend opened on Broadway at the Royale Theatre on 30 September, 1954 and has been thrilling audiences all over the world since that date.

Performance dates are Tuesday 9th June - Saturday 13 June at 7.30 pm, and also Saturday 13 June at 2pm.Tickets from Liz Brown, tel 01360 860 078 or email: [email protected] see our website www.fintrydrama.org.uk.
