Quick FactsThe Village of Woodlawn Parks and Recreation Department builds the community one person at a time by providing programs and services that enable our residents to reach their full potential mentally, spiritually, and physically.

In 2016 The WPR offered programs and services including school break camps, youth sports, concerts, boot camp classes, family nights, swimming lessons, over 20 culturally enriching special events, and meal programs for seniors in our community. Over 150 students were enrolled in the Summer Camp, while 12 teens had employment

over the summer months. Recreation efforts were also recognized by Hamilton County for the health and fitness initiatives during the first ever Fitness and Health Expo. Soon after, the community hosted a National Walk to School Day event with 154 participants.

The Village of Woodlawn Parks and Recreation Department is working extremely hard to provide

the Community with all of it’s recreational and programming through affordable, exciting, and culturally enriching programs that service the mind, body, and soul. If you wish to assist The Village through volunteering or in any other capacity, please feel free to call us at 513-771-7713.

The mission of the Village of Woodlawn Building Department is to ensure a safe and sanitary environment for the community through enforcement of Village and State laws relating to construction and land use regulations. The Building Department accomplishes its mission statement by comprehensively enforcing the Village’s land use regulations which include: Building Codes, Zoning Codes, Property Maintenance Codes, Tree Preservation Ordinance, Development Regulations, Storm-water Management, Flood Control, and Rental Permit Program. The Building Department also coordinates all applications to the Woodlawn Planning Commission and Woodlawn Board of Zoning Appeals. This department is supported by XPEX Building Safety Services.

Economic Development

The mission of the Village of Woodlawn Economic Development Department is to retain and attract employers and solidify a diverse economic base with a focus of expansion of our business community. Hamilton County Development Company (HCDC) leads our economic development efforts and provides resources to our businesses for growth and development. Woodlawn has a rich history of the manufacturing industry while maintaining a residential environment.

Woodlawn has a strong industrial and commercial base that is represented by the Woodlawn Chamber of Commerce. Since 1977, the Woodlawn Chamber has provided its members with networking opportunities and education through their events. Through their affiliation with the Southern Ohio Chamber Alliance, the Woodlawn Chamber is able to provide benefits and discounts to members on various products and services including health care plans and worker compensation group rates. *The Village of Woodlawn began the 2016 year facing a $300 thousand deficit in accounts payable that were incurred from the prior year. The Operating Divisions of the Village, through strong discretionary control of resources, were able to almost entirely offset these issues. Heading into 2017 a new Tax Director has been hired. With a new finance team in place improvement processes will continue, financially similar processes are being analyzed and developed, and a new commitment to collect all taxes that are due to the Village, both past and present should result in a stronger financial outlook for the Village.

WeTHRIVE! Woodlawn

WeTHRIVE! Woodlawn is a community-based commitment by the village to promote policies and programs that support sustained health and wellness. Out of the WeThrive! Initiative, Woodlawn created a community garden that provides fresh fruit and vegetables for the day-care centers and residents. In addition to promoting healthy food and exercise, Woodlawn was the second tobacco-free municipality in Hamilton County.

Village Partners

The Woodlawn Community Improvement Corporation (WCIC)

The Woodlawn Community Improvement Corporation (WCIC) was formed to advance, encourage, and promote the industrial, economic, commercial and civic development of the Village of Woodlawn. The WCIC acts as a designated agency of the Village for the industrial subdivision in accordance with Section 1724.10 of the Ohio Revised Code.

The WCIC was re-enacted in 2015 to assist in the redevelopment of the Village of Woodlawn. In December of 2015, it was decided by Council that the WCIC along with the Administration explore development opportunities in the Village. This partnership led to CiTiRAMA’s “Woodlawn Meadows” Housing Development which will take place in September of 2017. The WCIC will continue to seek new development opportunities while sharing the Vision of building our community, one person at a time.

Safe Routes to School

The purpose of Safe Routes to School is to encourage and enable students in grades k-8 to walk or ride their bicycle to school. Projects can be either engineering (improved crossings, sidewalks, etc.) or non-engineering (education

and encouragement programs). The Village of Woodlawn has received over $400,000 in grant funds for this initiative. This grant will add new sidewalks on Riddle Rd. from Roberta to the Pedestrian Bridge. Woodlawn has also received a $25,000 education grant which provides free before and after school programs that encourages youth to walk and explore nature.

Active Woodlawn Community, Inc. (AWC,Inc.)

Active Woodlawn Inc. is an organization that helps sponsor programs and projects in the community. Donations from this organization are used to provide summer camp field trips and sponsor events such as Breakfast with Santa and The Annual Walk to school. It also provides beautification services throughout the Village and helps seniors with lawn care. Active Woodlawn Community is working to change the lives of the people we serve.

Tree City USA®

The Village of Woodlawn has been a partner of Tree City USA since 2009. Communities achieve Tree City USA status by meeting four core standards of sound urban forestry management: maintaining a tree board or department, having a community tree ordinance, spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry and celebrating Arbor Day.

CitiRama- Woodlawn MeadowsWoodlawn will be hosting the 2017 Home Builders Association “CitiRama Home Show”. The Village of Woodlawn and the Woodlawn Community Improvement Corporation (WCIC) will partner with Meierjohan Building Group to develop 43 new homes on Arnold Drive. The development will be an attractive option for families looking for new construction.

This project will bring about revitalization to our community by making a positive impact on our local economy. The increased revenue generated will enable the Village of Woodlawn to make much-needed infrastructure improvements. The “CitiRama Home Show” will also provide housing for area businesses and generate positive exposure to our community.
