For those who have not volunteered, we need you. We understand that everyone is “busy,” but if everyone is “busy” then who is going to take the time for the kids? Don’t al-ways expect someone else will do it. Take an active part in your child’s life. If you do, you will find it is fun and rewarding. You can make a difference.

*To all those who have unselfishly taken the time to coach a team or volunteer in any-way, we thank you, please continue!

Community Events and Programs

Part of Tremonton Parks and Recreation’s Mission Statement is: “We strive to bet-ter our community...” and in the keeping of our promise, Tremonton City, along with its Recreation Program, has eliminated its youth sport non-resident fee and reaches out to the entire Bear River Valley to participate in our high quality pro-grams to help better and strengthen our community as a whole.

We all know money is tight these days, especially as we head into the holiday season, so the Tremonton Recreation staff has put their heads together to not only save you money, but to keep our Jr. Jazz program at the highest quality and in the top 5, class 1 programs in the state. Look for more information in our Youth Sports section of this guide.

Want to get out of the house this winter? Don’t let the snow and darkness stop you; come over to Adult Open Gym and forget how cold it is outside. We will be holding a trial run during the first few weeks of December for those ages 16 and older to get out and play Basketball and Volleyball. Look for more information in our Adult Sport section of this guide.

Check out the Community Events section of this guide to find out information about Tremonton Lights: Christmas Light Show, including dates and times, as well as the brand new “Holiday Extravaganza” we will be hosting on December 5. Santa has promised to stop by and we will have Christmas music, crafts, s’mores, hot chocolate, candy cane hunt and more while you wait.

Hope to see you out and be safe this winter and spring!

Chris Avery

Thank You: TremonTon

Women’s CiviC Leagueand everyone who donated to improvements at Shuman and Mead-ow Parks. New ADA and baby swings have been installed with the $2,800 donated. Women’s Civic League is a non-profit organization of women from Box Elder County with the goal of fundraising and doing projects that improve our community locally and abroad.

Meetings are held at Bear River Valley Senior Center the first and third Thursdays of every month from 4-5:30 p.m., with year-round en-rollment of $30 per year.

For more information contact Kathy Bessinger at (435) 279-3496.

Volunteer Service Award Recipient

The Tremonton Parks and Recreation Volunteer Service Award is given biannually to a deserving person in the community who has demonstrated a high level of service to the Parks and Recreation Department. This season’s award is presented to Chris Avery - Youth Coach.

Chris moved to Tremonton 10 years ago after accepting a job at Hill AFB and has worked there as an aerospace engineer. Chris lives here with his wife Tarena, daughter Kelby and two sons, Kase and Kash. They like all kinds of outdoor recreation and sports: camping, dirt biking, water skiing, hiking, soccer, football and basketball.

Chris started coaching for Tremonton Parks and Recreation about eight years ago and has loved every minute of it. Soccer and basketball are his favorite sports to coach. He is always one of the first people willing to step up and coach. Chris has even been seen out on the t-ball field a time or two volunteering his time to work with the youth.

When asked about what his favorite part of being a youth coach was, Chris answered, “I enjoy watching the kids get better throughout a season. They are not always superstars but they always seem to improve. It is fun to listen to what the kids have to say both on and off the

field. If I had a better memory, I would have a lot of very interesting facts about some of the parents. It is also fun to chat with the kids when I see them around town.” We thank you, Chris, for the time you put into working with the youth from our community and also thank all the parents and coaches who are involved in our programs. Without your commitment, the youth would not be able to play the sports they love.

If you would like to nominate someone in the community to receive the Volunteer Service Award please call Marc at 435-257-9486.
