The Parliament of the Republic of Uganda is the national legislative body where elected and appointed Members from all over the country meet to draft, debate and pass laws. The establishment, composition and functions of Parliament are derived from the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda.

Article 77 (1) states that,

will end in May 2021.

GENDER COMPOSITION AS AT 31ST DECEMBER 2018 The Speaker and Deputy Speaker play the same roles outlined here under;1. The Speaker chairs all sittings of Parliament and ensures that the Rules of Procedure are observed.

2. The Speaker is the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Commission, a body charged with the administration of Parliament.

3. The Speaker also chairs the Committee on Appointments and the BusinessCommittee.

4. As head of the institution of the Legislature, the Speaker represents Parliamentin its corporate relations.

5. The Speaker may after consultation with the President, prorogue Parliamentby proclamation.

6. The Speaker may also, by proclamation, appoint such a place and time within Uganda where Parliament shall sit.
