1st Sunday of Advent

Let us be ever watchful for our God, who comes to us in ordinary circumstances.

Perhaps, like Isaiah, we long for God to perform a breath-taking miracle that would make us sit up and take notice. Yet, as people of faith, we are called to see God in the ordinary. Advent gives us the opportunity to take time to pray – to sharpen our vision of God’s presence in our daily lives.

An Act of Spiritual Communion Prayer My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

Annual Collection for Our Parish Cemeteries: During the month of November, we honour the deceased. One way we can honour them would be to make a monetary contribution to one of our 4 cemeteries. Envelopes for that purpose can be found in your box of Offertory envelopes or simply take any envelope, write your name on it and clearly indicate to which cemetery you wish your donation to go to. Cheques must be made payable to Visitation Parish, so that the amount being donated can be added to your income tax receipt at the end of the year.

Message from Bishop Fabbro: The dispensation from the Sunday obligation that Bishop Fabbro gave earlier this year expires on the First Sunday of Advent. It seems unlikely that the situation with respect to the COVID-19 pandemic will change in the near future. Therefore he has extended the dispensation from the Sunday obligation, including the solemnities of the Nativity of the Lord and Mary, Mother of God, until Easter 2021.

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament On the first Friday of the month, parishioners are invited to spend some quiet time in prayer before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Adoration will take place following morning mass in the church, beginning at 9:00 am until 11:00 am on December 4th. A sign-up sheet will ensure that someone will always be in prayer before the Lord.

Prayer Intentions The Visitation Intercessors would like to pray for your intentions. Please call the office (519-687-3118), email us ([email protected]) or

Because of ongoing restrictions due to Covid-19, we will not have any Advent meditation booklets available to hand out this year. The booklet we usually have for you can be ordered directly from the Little Books website at littlebooks.org. They are available in paper and ebook formats. You can also get all the seasonal books on the Little Books app available for iOS and Android devices. To learn more about the app, go to littlebooks.org/app .

Attention CWL members: The 2021 membership dues of $25.00 are now being collected, please make cheques payable to « Visitation Parish CWL ». There are three ways to send your dues: cheques by mail to PO Box 324, Comber, On N0P 1J0, the mail slot drop-off at the parish office or deposit your envelope in the collection basket at church. Envelopes must be clearly marked “Catholic Women’s League” and information should include your name, address, telephone number and email address.

Giving Tree: Unfortunately this year, due to Covid-19 restrictions, we will not have a giving tree with tags. However we can still make a difference and help those in need. Instead of collecting individual gifts, the parish will be

accepting cash donations and gift cards for the Windsor-Essex Children’s Aid Society’s Holiday Program as well as local families. They have a team of shoppers that will make the purchases for us with our donations. Every $350 we collect will sponsor a typical family. To make a gift, place your donation in an envelope marked “Children’s Aid” and place it in the collection basket, our secure mail slot or bring it to the parish office no later then December 6th. Now, more than ever, we need your help to assure that no child and no family goes without. Let’s see how many families Visitation Parish can help this Christmas! **If you wish to make your donation by cheque please make the cheque payable to Children’s Aid Society. Write on the memo line Holiday Program. They will issue a receipt for income tax purposes for donations of $20. or more. Include with your cheque your full mailing address so that they may mail your receipt to you.

For those in need of candles for their Advent wreath. We have sets for sale in the office at the cost of $6.00 per set of 4 (3 purple, 1 pink ) (tapers 11")

The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) announces a new online weekly video series created to help Canadian Catholic faithful to prepare for the celebration of the birth of Jesus. Entitled Journey through Advent, the series is a joint project involving the CCCB’s Office national de liturgie, the National Liturgy Office, and the Office for Evangelization and Catechesis. The initiative was developed as a way, through the modern method of video messaging, to offer a resource that enriches faith formation during a time of joyful anticipation for the coming of the Lord and Saviour into the world. The videos serve as an introduction to the liturgical Season and present reflections on the Gospel readings for each Sunday in Advent. The Most Reverend Douglas Crosby, O.M.I., Bishop of Hamilton and the Most Reverend Pierre Goudreault, Bishop of Saint-Anne-de-la-Pocatière, provide spiritual and pastoral guidance on the readings that illustrate the true meaning of Christmas. This video series is especially relevant given the COVID-19 pandemic that places limitations on in-person gatherings for faith communities. It is hoped that Journey through Advent will be a source of deep spiritual solace and insightful preparation for all. The videos will be available on the CCCB website each Monday in advance of the upcoming Sunday celebration (23 November, 30 November 7 December and 14 December). To follow the series, the CCCB offers several ways to stay informed:
