Today, we’re talking about strength. Be sure to stress that strength doesn’t necessarily mean muscles. It can refer to a lot of different things, one of which is the ability to take a stand and follow God, even when it’s hard.
Here’s this week’s big idea: God gives us the strength we need.

WHAT IS REAL STRENGTH?● Say: Welcome to Kids’ Club, I’m so glad you’re here!
Today we’re talking about STRENGTH, and how strength comes in all kinds of different forms.
● Ask: What’s the first thing you think of when you hear “strength”? (Let kids respond) Yeah, probably being physically strong or having big muscles. Let’s check out a video and see a character who shows a lot of strength, but not just the outer, physical kind.
● Video: Trolls / Get Back Up Again (3 minutes)● Say: So, what way did she show strength? (Let kids
respond.) Yep, she kept getting back up and going forward, even when tough things were happening. And today we’re going to learn about a guy named Daniel, who showed incredible strength in a tough situation. And that leads to today’s big idea: God gives us the strength we need.
DANIEL● Say: OK, let’s play a game of “Would You Rather?” I’m
going to give you two options. If you’d rather do the first option, give me a big clap. If you’d pick the second option, stomp your feet on the ground. Are you guys ready?
○ Would you rather…be alone in the dark or find a spider crawling on your arm?
○ Would you rather…go to a new school or pet a snake?
○ Would you rather…give a speech in front of your whole class or get caught in a thunderstorm?
○ Would you rather…move to a new city or spend the night in a room full of hungry lions?
● Say: Great job! Now, have a seat. (Let kids sit.) All of those things are worries that people have. And you’d have to have a lot of courage and STRENGTH to do them. Out of all those “Would You Rathers,” what was the worst? (Let kids respond. Summarize their response.) Yeah, probably spending the night with hungry lions!

DANIEL● Say: Guess what? One guy in the Bible DID spend the
night with hungry lions: his name was Daniel! Let’s watch a video to see what happened. As you watch, see how Daniel shows strength in a really scary situation!
● Video: Kid Bible Story / Daniel ● Ask: Who can share some ways that Daniel showed
strength and bravery? (Let kids respond.) Yep, Daniel prayed, even when it against the law. Then he went into that lion’s den, and trusted that God would take care of him! And the only way he was ABLE to do it, was because God gave him the strength he needed.
● Say: We’re going to play a game now and have some fun showing our strength, so everyone stand up and get ready!
Part 1 (Large Group)
Main Goal: Play a game to help kids understand today’s big idea.
Supplies: ● Strength challenge
cards (1 set of 20 cards/small group)
Video: 10-minute countdown timer
Time: 10 minutes
*Start the 10-minute timer for this activity.
SHOW YOUR STRENGTH!● Set up:
○ Split kids into small groups ● Goal of the game:
○ Put a deck of strength challenge cards in the middle of your group on the floor, OR have the leader hold the cards in their hand (you could fan them out and let kids pick that way)
○ Each kid in the group takes a turn and picks a card○ Read it out loud (if they can’t read it themselves,
have a leader read it)○ Whatever the card says, the whole group has to do○ Continue taking turns until each kid gets to pick a
card● Adaptation:
○ You can play this as one large group if needed, but small groups may be more fun so that kids can each pick a card themselves
*Start the 10-minute timer for the next part of the lesson.
Part 2 (Game Time)
Main Goal: Do an activity to help kids understand today’s big idea: God gives us the strength we need.
Supplies: None
Video: 10-minute countdown timer
Time: 10 minutes
*Start the 10-minute timer for this activity.
ICEBREAKER QUESTION● Go around your group and have each kid say their name
and answer this question: What’s an activity you do that makes your work hard? Act it out for the group! (This could be a game, something you do in gym class, an exercise, etc.)
DEBRIEF THE GAME● Ask:
○ What were your favorite strength challenges? ○ Were you able to complete all the ones you picked?○ How was Daniel strong?
Part 3 (Cool Down Time)
Main Goal: Give kids a chance to respond to what they’ve heard today, and worship!
Supplies:
Video: Music Video: Open My Eyes (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAh0avXdgJ0) Music Video: Good Good Father (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eE_l-Klp2Uk)
Time: 15 minutes
*Play the 10-second countdown video to help kids refocus as they get back into a large group.
GOD GIVES US STRENGTH● Say: Following God wasn’t just hard for Daniel, back in
those days you could get in a lot of trouble just for believing in God. It’s hard for us too!
● Say: Sometimes it means doing something different than everybody else, saying “no” to something that looks or feels good to us, or standing up for what’s right, even when everybody else is doing something different.
● Ask: One way that I’ve had to rely on God to give me strength is…(Share a personal example with kids that will help them understand what it means to get strength from God in a hard situation.)
● Say: Whether it’s Daniel, or an adult like me and your leaders, or YOU…..can any of us be strong on our own? (Let kids respond.) No way!
● Say: This month, we’re learning a verse from the book of Deuteronomy, written by Moses (has anyone heard of him?) Moses was a guy who went through a lot of difficult things, and he had to rely on God to give him strength all the time. (Read with the whole group.)
● Slide: Deuteronomy 31:8 The Lord himself will go ahead of you. He will be with you. He will never leave you. He’ll never desert you. So don’t be afraid. Don’t lose hope.
RESPOND AND WORSHIP● Say: The most incredible way that God showed us he
loves us and will always be with us–he sent his son Jesus to die for us, and rescue us from all our wrong choices! And when you believe that, and follow Jesus, you get to experience incredible strength from him.
● Pray: Ask somebody to come and thank God for helping us follow him, even when it’s hard.
● Say: Another way to get strength from God is through WORSHIPPING him! So let’s lift His name up and focus only on him as we sing these words.
● Music Video: Open My Eyes● Music Video: Good Good Father
Part 4 (Large Group)
Main Goal: Discuss today’s story and how it applies to kids’ lives through asking questions and doing a hands-on activity.
Supplies: ● Yellow paper plate
(1/kid)● Brown strips (5/kid)● Orange strips (5/kid)● Pair of eye stickers● Markers (1 set/group)● Glue sticks (1
set/group)● Pens (1 set/group)
Time: 10 -15 minutes (or until parents pick up)
Pray together as a group. (If a volunteer wants to pray, let them go for it! You can also ask kids for specific things that they would like prayer for.)
EXTRA TIME?● Give kids maze and
word-search activity sheets to work on until their parents pick them up.
RESPOND TO THE STORY● How did following God get Daniel in trouble?● How would you have felt if you had to spend the night with
lions, just for praying?● How did God save Daniel from the lions?● When do we need to be strong?● We know that we’ll all face tough situations when we need
to be strong, but WHO can we get that strength from? HOW can we actually rely on him? (Pray/talk to him, read the Bible, spend time with others who follow God, worship him)
● What’s a specific way God might be asking you to be strong?
MAKE IT PERSONAL● Make a lion to help kids retell the story of how Daniel relied
on God for strength in the lion’s den–and how God rescued him from the lions!
● Give each kid 1 yellow paper plate, 2 long brown strips, 2 long orange strips and a pair of eye stickers.
● Show kids how to cut their long strips into small pieces about 2-3 inches long (kids won’t be able to measure these strips exactly, so just let them cut their strips however they long they like).
● Set out pens, markers and glue sticks. Help kids glue the strips around the outside of the paper plate.
Part 5 (Small Groups)
● Then they can create the face using the eye stickers and pens. Make sure to use the pens for drawing the face on the plate, since markers will wipe off. Show them an example of how to draw a triangle shaped nose and a “lion” mouth!
