Introduction to The Pinnacle Schools

2

The Pinnacle Schools was founded in 2005 by Karen and Charles Lee, after experiencing difficulty with their son that required immediate intervention. Dissatisfied with the treatment programs available to troubled teens and their families, Ms. Lee became a committed advocate for change in the troubled teen industry. She embarked on a journey to provide a comprehensive type of treatment program that would include not only the necessary therapeutic intervention but also, and just as important, the academic component required to keep teens on track in school while receiving treatment.

3

In her pursuit to help struggling teens, Ms. Lee soon discovered there were too many families without the means or resources to help their child. Channeling the same passion to advocate for troubled teens that resulted in the founding of The Pinnacle Schools, Ms. Lee has formed the Teens Path to Success Foundation (TPS), a non-profit 501(c)(3). Working with programs of The Pinnacle Schools, the Teens Path to Success Foundation has provided mental health care and education to many disadvantaged teens.

Proposal by The Pinnacle Schools

Huntsville City Schools contract with TPS RAISE Program to provide alternative education, year-round to at-risk students ages 12 – 20 in grades 6 – 12 through The Pinnacle Schools. The Pinnacle Schools proposes a proven educational and behavioral plan for students who, for various reasons, are unable to stay at their current school. Students must be referred to TPS RAISE Program by a designated representative of the Huntsville City School System.

What began as one short-term program has quickly grown to three separate and distinct treatment programs as well as a supporting Alternative Day School. In six short years, The Pinnacle Schools has cared for more

than 400 teens from 39 states and employs 50 dedicated

and caring health care professionals and counselors

in its programs.

In 2011, The Pinnacle Schools earned the position

of 1806 of the Inc. 5000 list of fasted growing

private companies in America. This achievement

puts The Pinnacle Schools in rare company

considering that there are some 7 million

private, employer–based companies in the

United States.

The Pinnacle Approach to Learning

7

Programs of The Pinnacle Schools (TPS) provide an innovative approach for students who are unable to complete their school requirements in a traditional setting. Degreed and certified classroom teachers provide individual

Academic instruction using

an online curriculum model,

and other supplements to

instruction to allow self-paced

instructional setting. Optional

services provided include, but

are not limited to, personal

growth activities, group and substance abuse counseling.

To participate in this program, students must adhere to an atmosphere of Positive Peer Culture and RAISE, Responsibility, Accountability, Integrity, Self Awareness and Excellence.

Students unwilling or incapable of adhering to the P&P classroom etiquette or become involved in a Class III offense on campus, or when all available alternatives are sufficiently exhausted, The RAISE Academy will refer students to The Pinnacle Schools Elk River Treatment Program (ERTP) for intensive therapeutic treatment.

Elk River Graduate Steven Brue

www.thepinnacleschools.com

Steven Brue from New Mexico was 17 when his parents admitted him to ERTP. He chose to return to Elk River at age 19 to finish high school and continue counseling. Steven is now an Airborne Paratrooper. He is a part of the HHC 82nd Airborne Division and 2nd Brigade. “I would have never made it as far as I did without Elk River and the staff there,” he said while visiting his Elk River family before deploying to Iraq. “I train myself every day - even more than the Army trains me. I’m Level 3 out of 4 in hand-to-hand, and I did it all myself on my own - no strings to hold me down, and I’m blazing ahead so fast and gaining so much, it’s unbelievable. And just to think if a single staff member quit their job during that time, or Dr. (Wayne) Wilson wasn’t there, or a staff didn’t listen to me and care about my thoughts and feelings 24/7, how different this situation would be. They are my family and I love them with all my heart, and someday I want to give back to them. Not just with my success.”

Other Testimonies

www.thepinnacleschools.com

“Thank you again from the bottom of my heart for giving me my son back. I am sure that without your help, the outlook for Zachary and our family as a whole was very grim. You have changed all of our lives.” Sheri Dunn, mother in south Alabama “Elk River helped my son be independent and believe in himself.” Father in New Mexico “Jacob earned his high school diploma through Kaplan, is enrolled at the University of South Alabama pursuing a degree in Emergency Medical Services after receiving a $30,000 scholarship. He is doing so well. He is the ultimate success story!” Freida Scarbrough, mother in Guntersville, AL “Making the decision to send her to Elk River one year ago, was the best thing that we could have done for her. For this we’ll be always grateful.” Rosana, mother in Miami, FL
