Great White North Triathlon

Cheer on the competitors at the Great White north triathlon! Approximately 1,000 athletes from across north America will participate in this long-course event, which includes a two-kilometre open-water swim at Hubbles Lake; 90-kilometres of biking down Highways 627 and 700 and throughout Stony plain; and a 21-kilometre run along the town’s trail network.

rayanna’s Hope for Africa started as a special legacy in memory of rayanna Hope trotter, a five-year-old daughter of Africa. In recognition of Grandparents’ Day and the month of rayanna’s birth, join the Stony plain local Grandmothers for Grandmothers Campaign for a special day of African dancing, a Gospel choir, activities, games, an inflatable bouncy-tent for kids, a car show and much more. Funds raised will be used to support African grandmothers with food, health care, school fees, shelter and income-generating programs.

Stony plain is a host community for Alberta Culture Days. the three-day event will feature many hands-on activities and cultural demonstrations for all ages.

September 28 * the Stony plain public Library will host Alberta-author Jennie Frost, along with DJ and mC music demonstrations that will include hands-on participation. teens will learn about making hip-hop or dance music and get the chance to try ‘scratching,’ ‘rapping’ and playing the guitar. the Library will also host a meet-a-music-teacher reception with the parkland music teachers’ Association. refreshments will be provided.

Located in rotary park, the Visitor Information Centre is your one-stop-shop to obtain information about what to see and do in Stony plain. before submitting the stamped page of your passport, check out the newly refurbished Sheriff Israel umbach statue, located just outside the building. rotary park boasts a picturesque pond, which is surrounded by a short, paved walking trail and park benches. Other park amenities include a playground, gazebo, picnic area and large open-space green areas. It is the perfect place to stop, relax and unwind.

Stony Plain Skate Park

Constructed in 2000, this approximately 6,500-square-foot concrete facility provides a safe place for skateboarders of all ages and abilities to develop and show off

their skills. the park features a half-pipe, table-top, ledges and kinked hand-rail. All skateboarders are required to wear appropriate safety equipment, including helmets, elbow-guards and knee pads. bicycles and scooters are prohibited. All users ride at their own risk.

Stony Plain BMX Track

Open daily except Wednesday evenings, when the track is reserved for the Stony plain bmX Association. there is no charge to use the track; however, all users are required to wear appropriate safety gear, including a certified bicycle helmet. All users ride at their own risk.

the more than 25 kilometres of trails in Stony plain are ideal for biking, walking, rollerblading and jogging.

the multicultural Heritage Centre has been preserving and promoting the heritage of the Stony plain region for more than 35 years. the Centre features a museum with dynamic exhibits, which showcase the community’s history, and a public art gallery, featuring exhibits by local, provincial and international artists. there is no admission charge.

A visit to the multicultural Heritage Centre is not complete without lunch at the Homesteader’s Kitchen, which is famous for its fresh bread, home-made soup and many varieties of pies made daily. Alongside the Centre stands the Oppertshauser House, currently home to a delightful General Store. Visit the Heritage Farmers’ market on Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm at the Heritage park pavilion.

Family Entertainment in the Settlers’ Cabin
