Sea Trial a Success for New ACY68

Retrofitted BANDIT Shipped to DubaiACY recently culminated a year-long retrofit on the 65-foot BANDIT, American’s first traditionally-styled sportfisherman built in 2000. Upon completion, the boat was shipped from Ft. Lauderdale to Dubai via yacht transport.

At the new owner’s request, the vessel was custom refitted to accommodate extended fishing excursions from Dubai to the fish-filled waters of the Gulf of Oman.

ACY teamed up with affiliates Bausch-American Towers, IMS American Marine Electronics and TCR American Custom Canvas to perform significant modifications throughout the vessel, including major mechanical and system upgrades. The MTU Series 2000, 1800 bhp engines were completely rebuilt. Electrical systems were converted to a 50-hertz service to accommodate the European-based power supply, and the air conditioning system capacity was increased to account for the intense heat in the Middle East.

Interior modifications include the conversion of an existing storage area to crew’s quarters with a private head, and the installation of new whisper wall headliner throughout. ACY also performed structural modifications to the salon to allow a Sharp® 40-inch flat panel LCD TV, installed by IMS American, to pop up from behind the sofa, courtesy of a Motivated Design® lift. The BANDIT’s original tube TV was removed from its cabinet and ACY fabricated a second pantry for additional storage. Upgraded salon components installed by IMS American (... continued on page 2)

ACY90 Readies for Engine InstallationA custom fabricated aluminum engine bed was recently installed in the new ACY90 to accommodate the massive 9,200 hp MTU power package. The installation was followed by the fitting of fuel tanks and transmissions. The deck house was removed to accommodate these installations, as well as the painting of the utility room and commencement of plumbing and electrical systems. The fabrication of interior accommodations is nearing completion, including the construction of the salon sole step and the final fitting of bunks, night stands and heads. Installation of the bunk rails, sea rails, door jambs and veneer will follow.

include a Yamaha® receiver, a Sony Blu-ray Disc® DVD player, a Panasonic® VCR player and a Clarion® 12-volt radio/receiver wired to the cockpit stereo. New LCD TVs were also installed in each state room. A KVH TracVision® satellite TV system was also installed and programmed to receive signals from the Arabsat® satellite network.

The BANDIT’s original full tower was removed and replaced with a custom BAT half-tower featuring a resin- infused hard-top outfitted with a drop-down radio box, radar pod and built-in spreader lights. A new bridge enclosure and bridge seat cushions were fabricated by TCR American.

The new BANDIT is graced with an extensive electronics package by IMS American, including a Furuno® navigation package with a NavNet® radar, echo sounder, back-up sounder, chart plotter/GPS combo and dual 15” LCD monitors. Additional components include a Simrad® autopilot system, ICOM® VHF radio, a VEI Apollo® night vision camera and an ACR® spotlight. IMS American also installed a Clarion® outdoor stereo system with a watertight CD/tuner, six disc changer and iPod interface, along with a four-channel marine power amp and coaxial speakers by JL Audio®.

ACY’s final touch – a removable stainless steel bow pulpit – will surely come in handy while mooring in the Gulf of Oman awaiting the next day’s fishing adventure. ACY’s systems expert Kenny Miller will be traveling to Dubai to familiarize the owner and crew with the vessel’s systems and operation.Interior modifications include the conversion

of an existing storage area to crew’s quarters with a private head.

ACY and affiliates Bausch-American Towers, IMS American Marine Electronics and TCR American Custom Canvas worked as a team to perform significant modifications to the BANDIT, including major mechanical and system upgrades.

The finishing touches are being made on the ACY90 engine bed prior to installation. The engine bed was custom fabricated at ACY’s machine shop under the guidance of Davis LaCombe.

RUMBERA Radiates!

Working closely with the RUMBERA’s owner and captain, Bausch-American Towers designed a center ladder tower package with extensive custom rail work and tower ring jump seats. The installation includes HID spreader lights and tri-color dome lights mounted on the standing platform and buggy top. A set of Rupp Marine® hydraulic Power Riggers and a VEI® Apollo night vision camera complete the package.

The bridge helm layout features five 17” VEI® displays with the ability to shuffle navigation images between any display, courtesy of a VEI® SSIR color touch screen and Furuno® radar controller. The bridge installation also includes two NavNet® 3D systems and an ISIS® vessel monitoring system.

IMS American installed a 46” Samsung® B650 LCD television in a salon cabinet, along with a hard drive movie/music server and 1080p player by Kaleidescape®; a Denon® 3808 stereo receiver; and a Paradox Magellan® wireless vessel alarm system. Audio-video components are controlled by a Universal® MX3000 remote control.

IMS American Marine Electronics outfitted the master stateroom with a Samsung® 37-inch LCD TV, concealed by an automated Vutec® art screen when not in use.

IMS American’s meticulous wire management is demonstrated with this installation of NEMA® input buffers.

Custom fitted into the mezzanine, IMS American crafted an aft cockpit control station with a VEI® monitor and hard button switching system controlling a selection of navigation images. A redundant system is mounted in the tower.

Bausch-American Towers & IMS American Marine Electronics team up to provide a state-of-the-art tower and electronics package for the 84’ sportfisherman RUMBERA.

New Installations on the Cutting Edge58 Monterey IMS American recently finalized a cutting edge electronics upgrade on the 58’ custom sportfish CHACH. With the help of ACY’s carpenters, the helm faceplate was modified to accommodate a pair of Furuno® 15” LCD monitors at port and starboard along with a Garmin® touch screen plotter occupying the center box. A Furuno NavNet® radar and sounder completed the package.

98 Burger IMS American re-fitted the 98’ Burger motoryacht LADY CATEE in grand style with an elaborate audio-video system, including integrated full-boat audio and high definition DIRECTV™ throughout the boat. The audio system is driven by a Niles® receiver with AM/FM/CD and iPod® interface. TV cabinets throughout the vessel were modified by ACY’s skilled carpentry team to accommodate new LCD TVs and A/V components. The salon cabinet was modified to accommodate a 40-inch Samsung® LCD TV and a Mid-Atlantic® pull-out rack housing a full-boat CD player and receiver by Denon®, along with a Sony Blu-ray Disc® DVD player. The galley staterooms were outfitted with Sony® LCD TVs and Blu-ray Disc® DVD players. Every TV on the boat is programmed to view the engine room and security cameras as well.

Product ProfileIntellian® d-Series High Performance Marine Antenna SystemsIMS American Marine Electronics is proud to offer the new d-Series High Definition (HD) TV antenna systems by Intellian Technologies. Incorporating a revolutionary new patent-pending design, the Intellian® d-Series antennas receive both Ka- and Ku-band satellite signals, providing access to the highest quality satellite TV on the open ocean, including the latest HDTV programming. The d-Series systems are compatible with Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) satellites, which use the international standard for digital TV transmission. The antenna system core technology includes a patent-pending Wide Range Search (WRS) algorithm which minimizes search time at the initial state, and patent-pending Dynamic Beam Tilting (DBT) technology which dynamically shapes the antenna beam for better stabilization. The DBT uses a high-performance, constantly adjusting sub-reflector while tracking the target satellite, allowing the antenna to remain relatively still and eliminating the constant whine of stepper motors while staying locked on target. This new single-dome technology by Intellian® makes HD programming a reality for boats 30 feet or larger.

BAT’s Dave Purkey redeemed a batch of frequent flyer miles recently, thanks to two new tower installations on Horizon 52-footers in Taiwan and Japan. The first installation (pictured left) took Purkey to Horizon Yachts’ production facility in Kaoshiung, Taiwan. The second installation (pictured right) was performed in Japan at the Creation Marine facility located on Osaka Harbor. This is the fourth trip to Asia that BAT has made within the past two years for Horizon.

Q: I own a 68-foot motoryacht that I keep docked behind my home. I run the boat myself and keep in it in perfect condition. I recently accepted a business offer that will take me overseas for the next year. I’d like to keep my boat at a yard or marina that will keep it maintained in the manner that I am accustomed to so I can use it when I have the opportunity to fly home. Do boatyards and marinas typically offer general maintenance, cleaning and restocking services?

YD: Your situation is actually quite common and several alternatives may be available at boat yards and marinas in your area. We recommend that you check with the service managers and dock masters at local facilities to discuss the types of services they offer and the costs. Since you plan to be away for extended periods of time, we recommend that you have your vessel stored on land. While storing during the hot summer months, ACY recommends hooking up to shore power and keeping the A/C on. Most large boat yards should be able to accommodate your needs while keeping your boat stored. At American Custom Yachts, we offer a variety of a la carte concierge services for our storage customers. Services include everything from routine wash-downs, hull waxing and teak maintenance to cleaning, re-stocking and vessel make-ready. We also check fluid levels and routinely inspect all electrical, plumbing and fuel systems. With a few days’ notice, the boat can be in the water, fully stocked, fueled and ready to go.
