2 | December 2019 - January 2020
What is your vision for Paul Sawyier?
That’s a tough question right now, because Paul Sawyier is way ahead of the curve in library service, in so many ways. My short-term vision is to do my best to support the staff in their already excellent efforts and to be responsive to the needs and wants of our community, while I settle in and learn more about Frankfort and Franklin County.
What is your favorite thing about Frankfort?
It feels like home. Everyone I’ve met has been very welcoming and friendly. That’s been the case from the first time I visited, years ago. And the people of Frankfort and Franklin County really love their library – so many people have made a point to tell me that, I have no doubt it’s true.
What are you reading right now?
A Woman of No Importance: The Untold Story of the American Spy Who Helped Win World War II by Sonia Purnell
Jean Ruark is taking the helm and will lead Paul Sawyier Public Library as the new executive director.
What is your background in libraries?
My first job out of college was Staff Artist for the Fairfield County District Library in Lancaster, Ohio. I created promotional pieces and managed two exhibit spaces in the library.
After moving to Mansfield, Ohio, and having two children, the position of Communications Coordinator for the Mansfield/Richland County Public Library came open. I was responsible for communicating/promoting the library to the community. In order to promote the library effectively, I felt it necessary to learn as much as possible about every aspect of library service, from cataloging to facilities to public service. When I saw the opportunity to apply for a position in a city that I already loved, I jumped at the chance. I’m thankful to the Board of Trustees for giving me this wonderful opportunity.
