Our WMU team served on intensive-level TA teams in several states, oversaw improvements and operation of the on-line strategic planning system, and led all aspects of the Center’s evaluation activities. Principal Investigator and Director—WMU site NSTTAC 1: January 2006 to December 2012 National Secondary Transition Technical Assistance Center (NSTTAC) NSTTAC 2: January 2012 to December 2015

Responsibilities: In collaboration with center partners (University of North Carolina-Charlotte, 2006 – 2015; and

Appalachia State University, 2006 – 2012), design and provide federally-funded technical assistance across the United States focused on generating knowledge, building capacity, and disseminating information to improve secondary education and transition services for students with disabilities. Specific responsibilities included planning, coordinating, and delivering intensive-level technical assistance at the state and local school/district levels in a total of 14 states. Developed and implemented electronic-based strategic planning systems for state and local level assessment, planning, and evaluation of state capacity-building and local program improvement for implementing evidence-based practices that improve student outcomes.

Principal Investigator and Director Creating Pathways to IT Careers Project September 2003 to August 2007

Responsibilities: Work with multi-disciplinary team and national collaborators to design and conduct federally-funded

research (NSF) on enrollment and outcomes of high school females in information technology career and technical education programs in Illinois.

Principal Investigator and Director School-to-Work Connections Project August 1998 to December 2003

Responsibilities: Design and conduct federally-funded research (USDOE/OSEP/field-initiated) on enrollment and

outcomes of high school females in nontraditional career and technical education programs in Illinois. This project was initiated at the University of Illinois and transferred to Western Michigan University with my move.

Principal Investigator and Director Technical Support to the Michigan Transition Services Project July 2000 to September 2003

Responsibilities: In collaboration with project staff, design and deliver professional development and technical

assistance activities regarding effective transition practices; design comprehensive program evaluation for five-year state discretionary project.

Principal Investigator and Director Focus Group Studies of Special Education Students August 2000 to June 2002

Responsibilities: In collaboration with researchers at Wayne State University, design and conduct focus group research

with high school students with disabilities across Michigan. Prepare site and summary reports.

Senior Research Associate National Transition Alliance Project October 1995 to 2000

Responsibilities: Collaborate with other Alliance members (e.g., Academy for Educational Development, University of

Minnesota, National Alliance of Business) to (a) identify effective practices relevant to school-to-work transition for individuals with disabilities, (b) develop and deliver technical assistance services and products to school-to-work implementation states and model demonstration transition projects; and (c) disseminate information. This project was initiated at the University of Illinois and my work on it continued at Western Michigan University.

Develop, implement, and coordinate an on-the-job training (OJT) program for students with mild and moderate disabilities, including supported employment and transportation services. Interface with school faculty and staff, community service providers, and area businesses for service development and provision. Develop, implement, and coordinate transition planning. Develop curriculum and provide professional development to teachers. Develop and coordinate public relations efforts in regards to OJT and transition, including parent and employer information. Serve on two statewide advisory committees focused on transition issues and serve as a curriculum-based vocational assessment (CBVA) resource specialist for the State of Florida, providing technical assistance and training to districts implementing CBVA procedures. Transportation Information Specialist Administrative Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Affairs December 1975 to February 1983

Responsible for all administrative aspects of the transit system including marketing, budgeting, accounting, reporting, purchasing, and personnel. Within these functions, responsible for the coordination of transportation services for people with disabilities in conjunction with community service providers, families, and individuals. Developed and administered the system's $1,000,000+ federal operating grant, as well as an overall annual budget of $3,000,000+. Developed and coordinated all marketing and public relations, including programs to facilitate the transition of people with severe disabilities from demand response services to fixed route services as an avenue toward increased community integration and improved quality of life. Conducted market research and analysis, as well as program evaluations. Produced all media for the system including slide presentations, printed materials, and newspaper, radio, and television advertisements. Directly supervised the administrative staff (3 account clerks, fiscal assistant, receptionist, and clerk typist). Prior to assuming the administrative responsibilities, I served as a driver in the demand-response system and then as dispatcher for both the fixed-route and demand response systems.
