The seniors, Xavier Wiseman, Beau Doucette, Ricardo Pereira, and Dylan Brage were all recognized. The last senior, Trey Cunningham, was unable to attend because of an injury. The boys played Proctor, the number one seed in the division. Last time our TVHS boys played Proctor, they lost 6-1. Since then, the wildcats had rallied together and found new energy. When the game started, both teams were fierce and held their own, and just as the first half was ending Proctor drew first and last blood, with some good scoring opportunities in the second. However, no one seemed to find the back of the net, and we lost 1-0. This ended the regular season. The wildcats ended with scores of 6-7-1, as the 6 th seed heading into the tournament. Last Wednesday, the Twin Valley High School boys played their first play off game against Twin Field. Twin Field is the 11 th seed in the division. This game was played in Brattleboro. During the first half, TVHS had possession of the ball most of the time. However, Twin Field managed to snag the ball for long enough to score a goal. Twin Valley contained the ball most of the second half as well, and kept shooting at the goal, hoping the goalie or the team would make a mistake. They were right; the defense made one in the second half. A defender had tripped Colin Lozito in the box, and the refs awarded Twin Valley with a penalty kick. Colin Lozito took it, lining the ball up perfectly. He kicked… and he scored! The crowd went wild, while the team gained their composure; they knew the game wasn’t over yet. Later in second half, the ball was kicked up the left side and Colin passed the ball to Dylan Brage, who then kicked the ball near post for the winning goal. Twin Valley played Chelsea in the quarterfinal match on Monday. This game was very important to see who advanced to the semi-finals against Sharron Academy. The game started, and the wildcats scored first. The second goal went to Chelsea. After that, however, it was all downhill for Chelsea. They didn’t score again… but Twin Valley sure did. Colin Lozito had a hat trick, Dal Nesbitt scored 2 goals, and Tony Tarr scored 1. That made the score 6-1 with Twin Valley going into the semi-finals versus Sharron. This final game happened at Sharron Academy this past Wednesday. This game would determine who advanced on to the championships. The game started out and Sharron came out with great energy, and ended up scoring in the first 10 minutes. After that, though, it seemed as if Sharron was losing energy and Twin Valley pushed through at the end of the first half with a goal made by Dal Nesbit. During the second half, both teams were fired up and ready to go, and held each other with scoring opportunities from each side. But with 15 minutes left, there was an unfortunate own goal that any one could make, from Twin Valley. They lost 1-2. The Twin Valley boys have overcome much adversity this year. Hurricane Irene forced soccer to start late, Coach Hayford was out with an injury for the first half of the season, and one of their own teammates was in a serious car accident recently. Even with all the odds stacked against them, they made it to the semi-finals. This has been quite a remarkable year for the Twin Valley boys’ soccer team. In a recent random student poll, ten students from each grade were surveyed on what their favorite color was. In return for participation, we figured out the meanings of different colors. So if you participated, or if you just want to figure out the meaning for you favorite color: >Red signifies passion, anger and sensitivity. Twenty percent of the junior class said that red was their favorite color. >Orange means happiness, creativity and determination. Forty percent of the freshmen class said that orange was their favorite color. >Yellow shows one with joy, intellect, and energy. Another 20 percent of the junior class said this was their favorite color. >Green stands for happiness, creativity and ambition. Fifty percent of the sophomore class and twenty percent of the junior class said that green was their favorite color. >Blue demonstrates one who is trustworthy , loyal, and wise. Forty percent of the senior class said this was their favorite color. >Purple symbolizes power, nobility, and dignity. >Black relates to one with interest in elegance, death, and mystery. Free to be Outside

Eating outside has always been a privilege during break and lunch… So why can’t we be outside anymore during these times as long as the students know the rules for being outside? This year when a friend and I were outside at lunch, Mr. Morse came out and told us we needed to come in and explained that a teacher would need to be outside to monitor us. “I’m open to the idea, but only if a staff member is willing to sit outside and watch the students.” Well, why would a teacher want to spend their lunchtime outside with a couple of teenagers? I’m not a fan of change and I feel that we should have our privilege back. Drama News An Evening with the Lear's is opening this Thursday at 7:30 in the schools music room, the"Fourth Wall Intimate Theatre". The evening is split actually from two plays: Act 1 is a one act titled King Lears Daughters, and Act 2 is The History of King Lear [an abridged play - 3 hours down to slightly over an hour]. Act 1 is about three daughters that live in a castle with their father. They don’t like their father, even though Cordelia, the youngest of the three daughters, is his favorite in act one. The action centers around how the daughters grow and develop. The oldest daughter, Goneral, focuses on her anger with the issue of wanting to become queen and her fear that she will not become one. The middle child, Regan, is trying to be noticed and loved by her parent. The youngest just wants to find her voice and the importance of words. Act 2 is a historically based play on a real character, King Lear, and his 3 daughters. King Lear decides to give up his kingdom [the responsibilities part] but still keep the title king and just party his way through the rest of his life. Unfortunately for him, life doesn't work that way and he spends the rest of the play trying to regain his power.Matthew Thomas who play King Lear in Act 2 say’s his main reason for doing this play is so he can “furthermore my experience in the dramatic arts.” Act one: King Lears daughterCaitlin Reilly- The FoolMandolin Lucier- Young CordeilaWillow Holschuh- Young ReganEllen Boles- Young GonerillPaige Wyatt- The nurseAct two: The history of King LearMatthew Thomas- King LearSierra Rakes- Mature Regan Kim Westby- Mature GonerillChristine Reilly- Mature CordeliaCaitlin Reilly- The FoolAaron Boles- GlosterGarret Williams- Edgar/ Bastard Son EdmundKeagan Littleton- Tech GuyMitchell Hall- Backstage Manager

Everyday there are hundreds of teens risking their lives on the road. Whenever teens make the choice to drive after they’ve been drinking, they’re making the choice to take a deadly risk for not only them, but risking everyone around them as well. Sometimes the choice to drive after drinking is made because teens don’t think they’re intoxicated, they don’t think they will get pulled over, or they believe “it wont happen to me.” Maybe it won’t happen to you, but is it really worth anyone’s life to test it out?

If you’re driving under the influence and you get into a crash, you’re going to have a lot to deal with if you were lucky enough stay alive. You could seriously hurt someone else or yourself, you’ll lose your license, your insurance will go up, you’ll need repairs for your car, and you’ll have to take a Crash Class for eight weeks.

It’s not easy to get past peer pressure. Dawn Borys told me, “I think the issue is making a choice.” You need to know that you always have a choice. A choice to get in the car with someone who has been drinking, a choice to drive if you’ve been drinking, and most importantly, a choice to stay sober. No matter what you do, there is always going to be a consequence and possibilities that are out of your control. If you think you should get into a teen drinking program, don’t be embarrassed. Talk to a school counselor or an understanding parent and they will help you get into one. It’s better to face your problems now rather than later on down the road when you could’ve already seriously injured yourself or other drivers.

So, next time you’re at a party or hanging out with your friends; think ahead. Put down the alcohol and just call it a night.

Teens Risking Lives

Over the last weekend their has been a large amount of snow that has dropped down into the valley, covering between 10-18 inches over 36 hours, from Whitingham to Dover. Some seemed very excited for the snow, either for skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, or sledding. Others found it put a downer on their weekend plans. The

haunted house at Twin Valley High School was supposed to happen Saturday the 29th from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. However, that had to be cancelled due to poor road conditions. The haunted house was going to be used to raise money for the senior class. The boys varsity quarter final game versus Chelsea was supposed to be played on Saturday at Chelsea at 1:00pm, but because of the snow the game was postponed till Monday, which was Halloween. Some people are excited about the recent snow fall, while others are already counting down until next spring.
